It is much better this way, as my wife can control sound on tv speakers when I have the soundbar off. She thinks this is much better for her when she is on her own.
When the two of us are watching, I can switch off the internal tv speakers , and operate the sound via the soundbar.
So thanks again for all your help, and to the other posters who have kindly given up their time to help me.”
Connecting the Sky box directly to the soundbar was not meant to be a permanent thing. It is only to try and narrow down the source of the sound fading issue. By connecting the Sky box directly you will only get sound from the Sky box on the soundbar, nothing else.
So if you play a disk in the Blu-Ray player you can only use the TV speakers.
The end result should be identifying and then correcting the issue with the sound fading. Once that is sorted you can then reconnect the soundbar to the TV and use it alone and keep the TV speakers permanently muted. There is a possibility that if both the TV and soundbar support ARC over HDMI and HDMI control that you can just have a single HDMI lead from soundbar to TV. ARC takes care of feeding audio to the soundbar and HDMI control may allow you to control the soundbar volume with the TV remote.
If the TV and soundbar have the capability instead of the TV remote volume buttons altering the TV speakers the TV instead sends control signals to the soundbar to alter it's volume. So only need the one remote to control the noise level. It is also possible that switching the TV on and off will also turn the soundbar on and off making it even easier to operate both. As both devices are essentially re-badged LG models there is real chance this may work.
