If mourinho joins man utd, then I think sky use a first pick on first weekend.
They must be hoping that first two weeks gives them 2 massive clashes, so they get both mourinho games (first home, first away). I think they only pass second week if it's away and not a big game I reckon sky might be able to get picks 1 to 4 on opening weekend. That could cover Manu, Manc, Leicester and west ham. |

First week is tough especially if West Ham are at home. Plus Jose, Pep & Antonio's first game plus Leicester as champions.

I personally don't see why it's so important to show a manager's first game in charge, but I accept it's the sort of narrative that Sky like to use. So with that in mind, I wonder if they might be tempted to show five games in Week 1 and thus we could open the season with six games:
Fri 20:00 Sat 12:45 Sat 17:30 (BT) Sun 13:30 Sun 16:00 Mon 20:00 In such a scenario, either the Monday or Friday game would be a sixth pick. |

They also do tend to like to show a promoted side. With Leicester shaking up the apple cart the current broadcast model isn't really built for 5/6 potential title winners!

It will be interesting to see what Sky do with the first week. If there are no obvious big head to heads in Week 1, I suspect Sky will pass first pick. Perhaps BT would use one of their nine to get Mourinho's first game in charge of Man Utd, but I doubt it and as such I can see Sky getting first pick back.[/quote] Disagree. I think sky will show it. If they didn't then bt definitely would. I think sky just show four games, don't think Fri and Mon will be used. Sky have football league to show |

That's a good point about Sky's Football League games - I suspect they'll go for a Monday night PL game in Week 1.
Personally I don't think BT would waste a first pick on Man Utd v a middle ranking team just because of Mourinho. But I agree that Sky might not take the risk. In which case BT will be hoping for no big head to heads in Week 1 as this would effectively be Sky wasting one of its 18 (controllable) first picks. |

What games are we expecting to be classed as BH games then?
I expect the first Bank Holiday games will certainly be played on December 26th (Monday) as it's Boxing Day so there will be a full load of games that day, I'm not sure about the second BH games though.. I wonder if they will play on New Year's Day (Sunday) with 1-3 games being played on the Monday/Tuesday for Tuesday. More importantly will the blackout still apply for these weekends? |

The closed window is for Saturday afternoons. If games are played on any other day then the restrictions do not apply. This doesn't change a thing to how the upcoming contract will work. |

In 2011-12 - the last time Christmas was a Sunday - fixtures were played as follows:
Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday (20/21/22 December) Monday/Tuesday (26/27 December) Friday/Saturday/Sunday (30/31/1 December/January) Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday (2/3/4 January) So if the same format was repeated this time then it would be midweek, bank holiday, weekend, bank holiday. BT will benefit from being able to - if they wish - show a game on the Thursday night of the midweek before Christmas. In theory this will allow Sky to show a game on Monday 19 December. The one thing that I remember about Christmas 2011-12 was that Liverpool played on Friday 30 December and Man City played on Sunday 1 January. They then met on Tuesday 3 January which seemed unfair on City. So watch out for managers getting upset when the Christmas picks are made! |

I think sky are actually in easy position this year. Unless it's a big Manu game or other massive game, pass six rounds before cl. Bt will bite at least 4 times as if they don't, sky get best two games. |

That's because there was a full programme of matches from the Championship down to the National League North/South (and possibly even further down).
![]() On the subject of midweek's, with the new contract this year will it be more likely for games to be played Thursday at 7:45pm? |

More interesting for me is, will Sky continue with the strategy of giving up big head to heads involving Tottenham to get BT maxed out? |

I am not even going to attempt to figure out how the picks will work this year....it takes me an average of 3 seasons to fully get them anyway!
Opening weekend will be very interesting. Am sure Sky passed LVGs first MUFC game in charge but I doubt they would pass Jose and United. BT wouldn't be too upset, with so many narratives on the opening weekend, they will end up with a decent game either way, and if Sky pass then will almost certainly go for MUFC. Sky's strategy is going to very difficult to predict this season - who on earth do they offer as bait for BT to max out on? |

Whilst Leicester are Champions would they show them on the opening day if they played one of the "lesser/smaller" sides?
Same with West Ham at their new ground? |

What's so special about rounds before Europe? Ultimately the fixtures will, largely, dictate the picks. The only week that could be tricky for Sky is the first one when they might want secure all the big stories on the opening weekend.
More interesting for me is, will Sky continue with the strategy of giving up big head to heads involving Tottenham to get BT maxed out? But let's say a weekend throws up Liverpool v spurs and man city v arsenal pre cl. With Fri option if sky pass, bt have to bite and take one, or sky get both. Without Fri bt could pass, knowing sky could only have one (I appreciate this rule not set in stone and exceptions, but it does seem a convention) |

However, the fact there was a (nearly) full fixture list throughout England is probably why BT scheduled their games for teatime and evening, instead of 3pm and teatime. But there was nothing official stopping them from doing the latter. |
