Probably nothing till next week now

It bears repeating that it would have made immensely more sense to pick up to matchday 7 rather than 6 in the initial slate and then await the CL draw on Aug 25 (takes place following CL/EL playoffs) before announcing the next batch of games.

A Thursday Sep 1st release would then be 6 weeks notice for matchday 8 which is where we'll be next week anyway. Except of course the sensible scenario wouldn't involve any games having to move a 2nd time due to European involvement.

I reckon something unexpected must have happened. We're now five weeks on since the first batch of picks; I can't believe they are still going through the process. So it probably means there is an argument about a kick off time which is not easily resolved.

The PL seem to stick to calendar months religiously, but yes, adding Week 7 to the first batch of picks would have made a lot of sense. I don't think that would have made a huge difference to the time taken to do the first batch. It may have changed some of Sky's picks as they'd have had an extra week in which to show every team at least once.

Certainly looks that way. Maybe BT want the North London derby at 1730 but the police are not happy. Maybe Sky want Liverpool v Man United at 1600 but the same thing is happening.

It does seem a long long time since the first batch was released, and it can only be issues with kick-off times that are holding up at this stage surely.

Does the end of Summer cricket affect Football Ratings.

I always find the first month of the season hard, cause I watch the cricket all the summer, the come August, generally for a month you have both hand in hand.

Take this Weekend, there is a chance England could be at No1 in the world, if things go there way. Next Saturday you have finals day.

Do sky have to take all this into account

Well there's some interesting picks in there. We wondered about Liverpool v Man Utd being Monday night and indeed it is. I'm struggling to find a reason for Arsenal v Spurs being Sunday 12:00. I suppose BT might think it will get a better rating in that slot than the Saturday 12:30 slot (which is vacant).

Also, Spurs v Leicester will not be shown live which is interesting.

One possible swap based on Champions League days (Chelsea v Leicester and Boro v Watford) as well as one if Man City lose their Champions League playoff

Sadly, not!

Manchester United v West Ham: Sunday 27th at 4.30pm (no UK TV coverage)

So BT have used 3 or their 4 possible weekend double headers, if my sums are correct?

Unless opt for (if they can) no picks during FA Cup QF weekend leaving 2 possible weekend double headers left.

Man United v Stoke a first pick for BT? Not able to show United at all in the remainder of their coverage.

Here's my first guess at the picks in my updated spreadsheet

Interesting that BT took Chelsea v Spurs in Week 13. I reckon they may have used all of their second picks in Package F:

3. Hull v Man Utd
11. Chelsea v Everton
12. Spurs v West Ham
13. Burnley v Man City

But I make it that they still have 5 first picks and 9 third picks remaining for the rest of the season.

Fifth pick for me. BT took Chelsea v Spurs over Spurs v Man City.

Surely BT take Man United-Arsenal then, with Boro-Chelsea first pick for that week?

Oh yeah! - so maybe a fourth pick, but I wonder if it means that Sky couldn't put Spurs v West Ham on the Sunday with a possible swap with Arsenal? Perhaps no guarantee that Arsenal and Spurs will be on different nights in Europe.

Hmmm, interesting! Liverpool v Man United on MNF, wow. As a Liverpool fan I hope this will mean it's a better atmosphere with less daytrippers and tourists wanting to snag tickets for an evening game. But I'm surprised the police have okayed it.

Tottenham v Leicester not even picked! The only two sides who were genuine title contenders going into the last ten games last season, and a match-up between them is already an afterthought.

Liverpool picks. BT have picked Liverpool in 2 rather low-key games. WBA at home, Palace away. Is one of these a pick from their midweek pack? You'd have to imagine so, because if not Liverpool would already be on 3 BT picks, and it would massively hamper BT in the second half of the season. Similarly, Man United. We thought that either the Hull or Watford away game was a midweek pick, and now they've picked a low-key home game with Stoke. Interesting.

BT's line-up is okay, but I'm not overwhelmed. I assume they passed W10, and picked Palace v Liverpool down the order. They've obviously taken first picks in W11 (NLD) and I assume W13 (Chelsea v Spurs). Where they offered W7 (Spurs v Man City)?

I had expected Sky to give BT second pick in Week 9 thinking that BT would definitely take Liverpool v West Brom. That doesn't look like what's happened. I think Man City v West Ham was a third pick in Package G so I can't see Man City v Southampton also being in that Package.

I wonder, however, if Crystal Palace v Liverpool is a fourth pick in Package F. I reckon Southampton v Chelsea is a third pick in Package G and with Stoke v Swansea being a fourth pick in Package E that would normally mean BT would use a fifth pick. But I think they may have opted to take a pick out of turn to get a Liverpool game in Package F rather than B.

First impressions (Im at work so scanned for about 1 min)

- Surprised Man Utd games versus Swansea and West Ham (one of them) not picked up by Sky after passing first pick. This must mean Sky are eyeing up Everton A and possibly Spurs at home in Dec. Sky do have Man Utd quota issues

- BT definitely used first picks on Arsenal V Spurs and Chelsea V Spurs. I think they definitely passed Arsenal V Sunderland back to Sky

Unsure on Spurs V Man City- looks like a BT pass back.

Edit: midweek picks will resolve the Man Utd dilemma. Personally I think Hull V man Utd is a 3rd oick from B and the other two are from midweek pack.

Im surprised BT opted for Man Utd V Stoke over Man Utd V West Ham.

Edit 2: Not sure about Man Utd V Stoke on second glance, will need to look at packages later tonight (not that it really matters as to what I think!)

Is Burnley v Arsenal first pick that weekend then? Thanks in advance

No, Swansea v Liverpool would be. Burnley v Arsenal looks like a Package G 3rd pick.

It's difficult to imagine how Arsenal-Tottenham can be first pick when in BT's secondary slot. Essentially if BT want to take a first pick it should be the Sat 17:30 game. On the face of it Chelsea-Everton was their first pick, but then there's no way Sky would pass Arsenal-Tottenham with a lower pick.

Could this be evidence that all pick ranks have to be declared beforehand (not just first picks as we've pondered for so long)? In which case BT would know they had both first and second pick, thus allowing them to choose Arsenal-Tottenham and Chelsea-Everton either way round.

As for why the NLD is Sun 12:00, I think it could be as simple as BT wishing to have their main personnel on-site for both games. Clearly that wouldn't be possible if they were on the same day. Then again, BT do have a Saturday double header in R13, so maybe not!

I cannot believe Sky would have allowed BT first and second pick if they were declared beforehand. No way would Sky allow BT to avoid putting that game in Package B. If that were the case, then surely they'd have taken Spurs v Man City.

I reckon the police vetoed it being 17:30, possibly influenced by it being November 5? Either way that seems harsh.

It was a 17:30 in 2014 and a sunday 4pm last year so I doubt it was the police.

Why is everyone so shocked that sky passed it? BT have had a NLD in at least the last 2 seasons.

Maybe police didn't allow it this time because of Bonfire Night
