Can play a game on the Friday night, two on the Saturday and one early on Christmas Eve, should be fine.

I would consider doing something more controversial. I think when Christmas is a Sunday, we should consider playing during the day on Friday 30 December. I know it's technically a weekday, but in reality a lot of people are off anyway and if the TV games are announced in plenty of time (i.e. earlier than mid October), if people are desperate to go to a game, they can book it off as leave. |

Christmas Shopping, religion, also the fact that there is a full set of fixtures on Boxing Day.

Regarding the 3-day gap between matches - if clubs aren't happy about less than this time (i.e. 2-day gap), can't they put forward a vote at one of the member club meetings? If enough of them vote yes then wouldn't the rule be adopted? Always confuses me when the clubs ask the Premier League about moving a fixture to another date and they're told no... the clubs 'are' the Premier League at the end of the day.

I work in the retail industry and I am not allowed to book the week in between Christmas and New Year as leave. I suppose you could take it to an extreme level and say I could quit my job, if I wanted to attend a game.
![]() Out of interest, do you have trouble with Boxing Day? In 2011 our game with Wolves was moved to 27 December (at a week's notice) because of a Tube strike and it occurred to me that that might have, ironically, have caused a tube driver or two to not be able to attend the match because they were down to work the 27. |

Yeah I do have to work Boxing Day as well.
However I do accept that Boxing Day fixtures have being part of the calander for years, so there is a bit of a difference. Your suggestion of simply moving a set of fixtures to a working day, is something that has never been part of the football fixtures, and it simply would be impossible for me to have the day off. In short, I don't think your suggestion was a good one. |

There was a real furore among Chester and Wrexham fans when police insisted their local derby be played at 12 noon on December 28th, 2005 (a working day with everyone else due to play in the evening). Bad weather meant it never happened in the end but it showed that a lot of people would not consider it a good move to have football played in the middle of a working day at Christmas and it could have set an ominious precedent. While many may be off, there are also a lot of others in work as normal.

Wolvesdavid - Fair enough, there are probably better solutions to the fixture congestion, but it probably involves shunting more games out of the bank holidays to make it a bit more fair.
I have to say, I was bit disheartened to see so many people turn up to the Arsenal v Wolves game in 2011. Admittedly 27 December was a bank holiday so a lot of people were off anyway, but you'd think changing a fixture with a week's notice would mean a lot of people would not be able to make it due to prearranged family commitments, for example. |

You might not be surprised that I think the players and managers should just get on with it, and that their schedule is not too bad.
They could do several things such as schedule a set of fixtures for the early August midweek, (which from 2018-2019 will have at most only one fixture, postponed because of European qualifiers.) Maybe schedule a set of fixtures for FA Cup 5th round day, as at least there are bound to be a couple that could be played. |

BBC article confirming the draft fixture schedule for next season with 6 games in 17 days at Christmas.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38497382 It does also say the schedule remains subject to change, but with an early finish because of the World Cup it'll probably stick. The only thing that might change is the timing of the midweek round. Other than to piss managers off, I'm not sure why they'd use the 19th/20th over 12th/13th. |

Next season it cant be then as CL final is a week earlier So the QF are straight after International break Which leaves December As has been said they have a choice of Two weeks |

Not much scope there to play many matches in the Saturday 30th round over multiple days, they could move one match to the Friday night and maybe have a 1.30pm New years Eve live kickoff, maybe thats about it. 4pm live kickoff on New Years Eve maybe not the best idea and police could veto it anyway depending on who it involves.

Judio - No, there was a midweek round in August. Liverpool v Newcastle and Wigan v Arsenal were postponed due to Champions League qualifiers. The Liverpool v Newcastle game (I think Alonso scored from his own half in that) was played on September 20th but Wigan v Arsenal wasn't played until December 13.
I'd forgotten that we used to have the bizarre situation of some midweeks with Champions League games and others with UEFA Cup ties. So the midweek round of PL fixtures was split into two with the following on 28/29 November: Watford 0-1 Sheff Utd A Villa 1-3 Man City Fulham 2-1 Arsenal Bolton 0-1 Chelsea Liverpool 0-0 Portsmth Man Utd 3-0 Everton And these on 5/6 December: Charlton 1-0 Blackburn Tottenham 2-1 Middlsbro Newcastle 3-2 Reading West Ham 0-2 Wigan It's a good job UEFA didn't object to PL games being played at the same time as their games! |

We had a 5.30pm NYE kick off this season.
Also, just going back to 2006-07, I'd forgotten about the Arsenal v Man City fixture which was moved about four times due to Arsenal's League Cup QF with Liverpool being postponed (which meant their semi final was knocked on) and FA Cup replays against Bolton and Blackburn. |
