Obviously really sad to see Trevor go. He'd actually become one of my favourite characters. He was certainly one of the very few whose storylines I actually enjoyed. Also a devestating blow to lose such a great actor in Gregg Wood. I expect that it was his choice to leave, and who can blame him with the general state of the show at the moment?
I actually think it was a good exit for him though, in a way. Although, I don't see how it really makes any sense that he just let himself bleed to death to marry Grace. I'm sure she'd have preferred for him to live and postpone the wedding. Just a bit silly considering he had Curtis as well, and why did he just let Nico get away with it? But at least it was a sort of big dramatic ending, and a tragic ending, for a character who started off a villain but became a real anti-hero, in the end.
The real tragedy of Hollyoaks and all its serial killers is that this Nico story, on its own, would actually be brilliant and compelling television. But alongside Cameron and Lindsey - not to mention the casual killers like Freddie - its just part of a ridiculous picture.
Elsewhere, i've seen Hollyoaks viewers complain about the fact that the gay characters always seem to jump into bed with one another. In the past I didn't think much of that, since it was no different to what the straight characters were doing. But recently, with James, I think it definitely has become an issue. I can see why some viewers might be annoyed by this portrayal of the LGBTQ community.
Relatedly, you know what I don't get? Kirkword is known for doing a lot of gay characters, right? So why does he seem to give so little craps about representing lesbians? We have Esther and Kim, who are probably one of my favourite couples on the show, but that's all really (unless you count Grace). Why the unevenness? I've read before the lesbians are very under-represented on television - even, for example, when equal marriage was legalised, the news concentrated on men and had a fraction of women on. Considering the amount of gay male characters, it just seems biased.
