EE: Is Bobby Beale developmentally delayed?
Desert_Rain
24-05-2016
Bobby will be 13 years old in a few months time.

But he behaves more like a 7 or 8 year old (apart from all the killing).

yesterday when he said "You're arguing because of me aren't you?" how can he not know that for sure?

He has a certain innocence about him (again, apart from all the killing) I can't help think he is supposed to be developmentally delayed.

He's very advanced with his handling of blunt objects.

I think it's the writers who are developmentally delayed. Some of the things that certain characters have said are totally ridiculous.

He does sometimes talk like a child half his age.

Ironically for the most protected criminal in the history of soap, he seems to want to be punished for the things he's done. I imagine his increasingly violent outbursts have been him simply crying out for someone to Do Something about him? The crater in McBeale's skull is her karma.

Arrested development isn't uncommon in ASPD (psychopathy). I think it may even be considered a cause.

I think arrested development is considered a trigger for all personality disorders. I suffer borderline personality disorder and one of the psychologists that worked with me thought that I suffered it.

He seems to have a simplistic view of the world. If he wants something he should have it, if someone upsets him he batters them, and if he's asked a question he answers honestly.

He's been let down by Ian and Jane though. If Jane hadn't of moved the body he might not have ended up in jail for what was simply an accident/well not an accident but it was unfortunate that the blow at that particular angle from the jewellary box killed her after her head being smacked by Denise earlier and then bump with Max.

Now his life is royally messed up, no one is explaining the consequences of him talking and not listening to his lawyer and he's got a new victim.

The narrative problem with Bobby is that the story started out as a 'whodunnit', so it meant that we had no clues to Bobby was developing into a psycho until we saw events that took place AFTER it was revealed that he had killed Lucy.

I wouldn't say Denise's slap had anything to do with it. It was more likely Abi's beating and the trip in Deals on Wheels

Did Abi not just slap Lucy though?

You've hit the nail on the head. We had a 12 month whodunnit with all the suspects being lined up. DTC thought he was being clever doing a shock with the killer being the kid extra with the new head. It was a shock but reality was we knew little or nothing about Bobby.
