It seems that when DTC joined, he wanted something big to start his reign, and build up to the 30th Anniversary, but didn't think of how it would all end.

He has given Sean O Connor a big mess to sort out, maybe this should have ended at Christmas, then DTC could have had it sorted before he left”

To be fair to DTC and in response to the criticism he gets on here - the episodes we're currently watching are his work. It's his name on the credits.

We won't be seeing SOC's stories for a while. I think DTC always wanted this plot to run through his tenure and I suspect most loose ends will be dealt with as part of his final set of episodes - which will be over the next two months.

I can see jane's 'punishment' being the outcome of the attack on her by Bobby, maybe she will end up in a wheelchair, paralysed, or brain damaged which would mean she would probably be deemed unfit for trial, I cant see her getting out of it any other way, Bobby clearly didn't go hurtling off to the woods in her car with Lucy's body in the boot himself

The rest of them though didn't know at all until after Jane and Ian's wedding, it was all over then, none of them were needed to dispose of the body or clear up, they had no active involvement in the murder or the aftermath, so all they need to do is deny all knowledge and stick together, it was the police who were determined to see Max go down for it, Abi's involvement is also muddied by the fact that she did help Max clear up Lucy's blood - it just wasn't as a direct result of her murder, but how would she know for sure? so I cant see any charges coming her way either
