Hubby reckons they didn't as the vicar never pronounced them man and wife, unless we're to assume that they skipped that bit.

Yes, that means they will have to have a quick Shag to consummate the marriage before she leaves

I do not think it is essential for a registrar to pronounce that they are married. The following are the legal words, which I believe were said:

In order for a marriage to be legal you must make two legal declarations, by repeating the words after the Superintendent.
The first is a declaration that you are free to marry.
The second includes the words by which you accept each other as husband and wife. There are choices as follows:

Traditional
"I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I..........may not be joined in matrimony to............"

"I call upon these persons here present to witness that I........do take thee........to be my lawful wedded wife/husband"

Modern
"I declare that I know of no legal reason why I............may not be joined in marriage to........."

"I.........take you/thee...........to be my wedded wife/husband"

Short
(By replying "I am" to the question)
Are you........free lawfully.......to marry......? "I am"

"I......... take you/thee..........to be my wedded wife/husband"

Is it possible that Ben Price is going to be a surprise departure and Carla is actually going to have a happy ending!?

I thought that was the direction it was going in too, but don't want to see Nick leave the show - big Platt stuff coming up! No idea what Nick will do if he doesn't go though - probably mope about for 6 months then buy half the bistro back!

If corrie actually managed a shock I would be surprised. I hope he doesn't as I do like Nick and Corrie are quite short on males with ambition.

Would be surprised if Corrie pulled that off. All recent Ben interviews points to him staying. Unless he was to leave but come back in a couple of weeks. I doubt that though. I hope he stays. What with big Platt drama coming up and Kylie leaving. Him and David are really good together and I have really grown to like their relationship now

Don't think Ben is leaving, I guess Nick could probably afford for a quickie divorce.

I expect by the end of the year, for him to at least have half the Bistro back, and Him and Leanne back as a couple

I assume it was done. We just didn't see it. It jumped to the speeches.

Yea he has to get at least some of the Bistro back. Still doesn't feel right Robert owning it.

So strange Leanne not being about. I guess Nick will go into hiding the next couple of weeks and the Callum stuff takes over. Wonder if. Carla leaves pregnant but doesn't tell him as he probably wouldn't believe her.

Seems strange to me also that

Yea very true. Now that Nick and Carla actually got married they will both own the flats now. So unless they get a quick divorce I assume they will still be used. Although we don't really see Nicks usually. Could Gail eventually move into one of them with Sarah and Nick will have the other?

You are right about the spoiler boxes, we have no idea it is gonna plan out like this, just ideas.

Sometimes I do feel if some of us, could come up with better Storylines, than those who are paid a pretty penny to do so

Does the marriage still have to be consumated?

I'd be surprised if it wasn't consumed long ago - or does a deed have to take place after the ceremony? Were all those shotgun weddings in he 60s purely to legitimise the child? Although they were in the days before quickie divorces when you had to prove adultery in marriage in order to get one.

No, it's enough just to sit and stare at each other's nuptials.

A marriage can only be consummated after the ceremony hence the terminology is 'consummate a marriage'. Having sex out of wedlock does not count. You can't back date or retrospectively consummate it.

I have a feeling, though I can't be bothered to look it up, that an unconsummated marriage is valid, unless and until the party who didn't refuse to consummate it chooses to ring a suit (probably a different word these days) to have it declared invalid.
