Betfair don't take the bets, they enable other people to lay odds or bet on whatever they want.

But why don't they adapt the info on the website by taking out the inapplicable details? I don't bet online so don't know how it works, admittedly. They wouldn't still have odds for England winning the Euros after the first round had passed would they? [SATIRE]

They do generally but some will slip through. If you are stupid enough to bet on something that is impossible then it's your loss.

More or less what I wrote. Betfair aren't a normal bookies, all they do is take commission from other people's money.
