Soton are a strong team who could give Ars a good game so surely makes sense to show that? All prem tie or Prem at home to Championship, if it were Leeds at home yes but at Anfield the Arsenal game makes sense.”

Leeds have by far the highest viewing figures in chsmpuonship and beyond too sky were using leeds season before last against Bt sports premier league coverage when you had ides of Reading Hull Watford etc against teams like leeds Sheffield Wednesday & forest
Both the latter 3 far bigger than the former 3 and this season with likes of villa & Newcastle in the fray you could say the chsmpuonship is very well supported league this season on November 20th
Sky got two games thst afternoon
Leeds v Newcastle at 1315
Middlesbrough v Chelsea 1600
In UK alone I say the former is far bigger fixture but abroad you get all the Chelsea bandwagon fans so.it will be bigger figures overseas

Well it obviously depends on what the TV companies are looking for.

Arsenal v Southampton should be a good match, in terms of the likelyhood of the bigger team losing. I would have thought that Southampton would have more chance of winning at Arsenal, than Leeds United have of winning at Liverpool.

Arsenal v Southampton and Manchester United v West Ham United are the only 2 all Premier League ties. Both of the championship clubs (Leeds United and Newcastle United) have been drawn away from home to a Premier League side, so you would think there is little chance of an upset normally (albeit that Leeds United and Newcastle United are two of the bigger championship clubs, and actually you might give Newcastle United a chance to win away against a struggling Hull City side.)

However at the end of all of this post, I don't think you can really ignore Southampton's form so I think they will go with Manchester United v West Ham United and Arsenal v Southampton.

Except we have the usual problem
Arsenal Man U and Southampton play on the Sunday
So having Southampton on the Tuesday may be a problem

The right decisions IMHO.
They're the picks of the round!

I would says so. If Arsenal vs Southampton was such a draw, they'd have picked it when they played each other in the league last month, but they didn't.

I wonder, is this the first time ever the TV picks have all been in the same stadia as the previous round? Apart from the semi-final and final of the FA Cup, obviously.

I don't agree. Arsenal are flying and Southampton are in the top 10

United struggling and West Ham down in 15th. Surely Arsenal Southampton has more appeal

Arsenal have not been shown this year either you'd think Sky would mix it up, but they do favour Liverpool and United games

I expect them to pick 2 midweeks on Jan 31 and Feb 1.

Just because BT have PL midweeks on those days.

Jan 7th and 28th should be from L1 or even L2

Arsenal and Southampton have other fish to fry at the moment so it's unlikely to feature the teams currently doing so well. Not the case for West Ham, or even Man U perhaps.

I don't. Good luck getting any kind of audience opposite Liverpool vs Chelsea.

Sky don't just show Football League games to try and steal viewers from BT. They show most of them on Saturday teatimes because that's one of the only slots they have available.

Have a look at the BT Premier League games announced
Then have a look at the Sky Championship games

They nearly ALWAYS put a game to match BT

Even on a Sunday at noon they have picked a Derby game

I would agree that Leeds United are a big club, but they are currently in the championship, and I don't see how Liverpool beating a midtable championship club at home is one of the two ties of the round.

Leeds v Liverpool was The fixture in 60s /70s and there a lot of history in this fixrure
Arsenal v Southampton doesn't have that history or tradition.also the viewing figures will be higher too(which am.sure that's been taken into account ( also Southampton winning at emraires will.be less of a shock then leeds winning the Anfield

What Sunday? They're not doing it this Sunday when BT have a live game. I don't believe they've ever shown one opposite a BT Sunday game.

Sky can't show Football League games on Saturday lunchtime, most Sunday lunchtimes, Sunday teatimes or Monday nights because they have Premier League matches in those slots. So they usually show them on Saturday teatimes because that's a free slot. Yes, there's a Premier League match on another channel, but where else are they going to put them? The number of matches they show a season mean they can't show them all on Friday nights and non-Premier League Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes and Monday nights, so they have to show a number opposite Premier League matches. They have done some at noon on Sunday, but that means going opposite their own Premier League coverage.

I don't know what else you expect them to show in that Saturday night slot. They are a sports channel and they're showing live sport. And where do you expect them to show the Football League matches if they don't show them there?

I also seriously doubt the Football League would be very impressed if they thought Sky were just showing the matches as spoilers rather than because of any interest in the actual competition. I seem to recall this forum last year announcing Sky were sure to show Football League matches opposite Champions League games...

I have to say, if Sky were keen to avoid clashes with BT Premier League games they'd have scheduled the Aston Villa v Newcastle for the Sunday when they had only one Premier League game.

A common occurrence on this forum (ie not just this thread, but many threads) is that people attribute something to one particular cause when very often there are numerous contributory factors, so:

Poster 1: "A is happening because of B"

Poster 2: "No, A is happening because of C"

Poster 3: "No, A would have happened anyway, regardless of B and C"

Very often there will be an element of truth in all of the above - ie A may well have happened anyway but B and C are both things that may be convenient for A, or help A be more successful.

The above series of posts is a good example.

With most things in life, things don't just happen for one single reason. Very often there are many contributory factors. But people often seem to want to simplify things down to one single cause.

This then leads to a debate which doesn't achieve much as people contradict each other when there is a partial element of truth in what both people are saying.

Plus...

Poster F - Well it happens like this in Ireland.

As to your point, not only forums here, but it reflects forums all over the internet and life in general. You've just summarised human nature.
