The final game subject to change is on Monday 20th February, with Aston Villa making the journey north to St James’ for an 8pm kick-off against Newcastle United. If either team is still involved in the FA Cup (at the 5th Round stage) then the match will revert to 3pm on Saturday 18th February - its original date and kick-off time, and will not be shown live.
But if they are still in the Cup the FA Cup is on that weekend !!!! |

Newcastle against Villa also won't be on if either team are in the FA Cup 5th Round that weekend.
I'm expecting to see at least one of Norwich v Ipswich and Leeds v Sheff Wed added to the roster for EFL Cup Final weekend at a later date. |

Two consecutive weeks switched to Friday night for us. Meh...
Would have gone to Wigan on the Saturday but due to work won't make it on the Friday (can still watch on TV though) and I'm a season ticket holder so will go to the home game anyway, but playing on Friday night is always rubbish. |

Definitely good. Only negative is, a bit like if a team plays on a Sunday or Monday on a normal weekend, coverage from that game is missed (so anyone playing say on 27th or 28th of Dec won't be shown, nor anyone playing for example 3rd or 4th of Jan).

You certainly cant Grumble about Channel 5's Coverage.
If This was the BEEB, Next Saturday 17 December, would have been the final show until the 14 January possibly, |

Strange Brighton v Newcastle on January 28th not provisionally picked
I assume sky expect one of them to be in the fourth round of the cup so can be moved to TV friendly end of season time |

They cant show a midweek game if there is a precious game on in one of UEFAs competition
So if one of them get through then Sky will be very unlikely be able to show it |

I'm sure last season there was a game shown on a CL night. Maybe. Anyway, sounds like everyone has quite rightly told UEFA to go doodah themselves as everyone is seemingly going to dump the MOU with them and schedule games when they want and broadcast games when they want, rather than pandering to UEFA who seem to think their competitions are the be all and end all.
We had the Top 2 playing in April but Sky could not show it |

10 in 10 ends with a bit of a letdown and one redundant bus thanks to Holloway going to QPR. I wonder how long it will be before he is back in the SKY Studios permanently ? Will be called doing a Neville

Moved to Monday night for Sky
And it could move AGAIN if FA Cup Replay Fri 3rd Feb Wigan Athletic v Sheffield Wednesday 19:45 Sat 4th Feb Nottingham Forest v Aston Villa 17:30 Mon 6th Feb Huddersfield Town v Leeds United 19:45 Fri 10th Feb Sheffield Wednesday v Birmingham City 19:45 Sat 11th Feb Wolverhampton Wanderers v Newcastle United 17:30 Mon 20th Feb Newcastle United v Aston Villa 20:00 Fri 24th Feb Brighton v Reading 19:45 Replacing it on Fri 24th at 19:45 is Wolverhampton Wanderers v Birmingham City. http://www.efl.com/news/article/2016...y-3476730.aspx Surprisingly therefore neither the East Anglian derby or Leeds United vs Sheffield Wednesday will be on TV, unless there are further changes if the Manchester derby is postponed because of the EFL Cup Final? Norwich v Ipswich has already been changed to a 12pm kick-off on the Sunday, so Sky could theoretically add this in if Spurs v Stoke moves to 1.30pm with no hardship for anyone involved? Of course they might just not bother! |

Plans for Derby v Leeds friendly during March international break next year. Clubs will meet to '“demonstrate the extent of the potential revenue opportunities that exist” among the League’s 72 teams.'

So what are the plans for this Derby County v Leeds United friendly? Will it be broadcast on TV? Will it be broadcast on social media/the internet in general? (I believe the blackout hours don't apply during international weekends, so the game could kickoff at 3:00pm on a Saturday, and still be broadcast?)
I suppose most importantly though, is what is the point of all of this? What is this meant to achieve? |

I suppose most importantly though, is what is the point of all of this? What is this meant to achieve? Here are some of Charles' recent reports on the subject: Quote:
Mel Morris, chairman and owner of Derby County, has written to the other 71 clubs in the Football League to complain about the lack of transparency in their TV deals. Morris, who was refused access to the EFL's domestic and international TV rights agreements, wants clubs to join his motion amending regulations to ensure they receive full viewing of all major contracts. 'I fully believe that such a change will be pivotal in maximising the full potential of our revenues and provides a much needed check and balance,' writes Morris. 'Worryingly these contracts include a confidentiality clause implying that their contents cannot be shared with any of the clubs whose rights they determine.' Morris has already received some support. The EFL made no comment. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...gotiation.html Quote:
Football League chief executive Shane Harvey has sent a bizarre letter to the 72 clubs in response to Derby owner Mel Morris’s request for more transparency around the major FL broadcasting contracts, to which he has been denied access. Harvey writes: ‘One of the reasons was to protect the FL against these commercially sensitive documents getting into the hands of the current broadcaster’s competitors and spoiling the EFL’s opportunity to create a significantly improved market.’ Another interpretation is that Sky have had a cosy relationship for the FL for too long, which is Morris’s concern. The acrimonious battle between Derby County and the Football League about TV rights took another turn on Wednesday with claims from the Championship club that they are gaining considerable support from other clubs. Derby chairman Mel Morris, who was denied access to the TV contracts, wrote to every League club to ask for their backing as he seeks more transparency from the EFL. Derby say that the growing list of clubs lining up behind them now includes Wigan, Cardiff, Fulham, QPR, Preston, Aston Villa, Birmingham, Leeds and Charlton. And they claim that those backing the EFL from the Championship are so far limited to Blackburn, Norwich, Brighton and Brentford — the last three of whom have representatives on the EFL board. Morris believes the £90million-a-year deal with Sky that runs until 2018-19 with the option for another year is poor value compared to Premier League riches and offers no premium for exclusivity. The EFL have no intention of sharing the fine print of their TV contracts with breakaway agitator Morris in the belief he is looking at ways of destabilising the deals. A spokesman said they have had no official confirmation from any club that they had joined the Derby camp. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...fight-EFL.html Quote:
An unlikely friendly match between Championship rivals Derby County and Leeds is going to be staged at Pride Park during the March international break as part of Rams chairman Mel Morris's battle with the Football League over media rights. The formidable Morris is in conflict with the FL after being denied access to the details of TV deals he claims could be a lot better. He is putting on the game to highlight the major revenues he believes could be made from broadcasting and social media if there was no restrictions from a monopoly TV deal for eight per cent of the fixtures. Morris, who it is understood has significant support for his views from across the EFL divisions, has invited all 72 clubs plus the League board and commercial committee to a meeting at Derby on January 5 where he will present his media plans in detail. Morris wrote in his latest letter to clubs: 'My quest is to ensure the Football League is able to efficiently and successfully grow our brand and our revenues. 'I am underwhelmed by our lack of stature and the weak levels of monetisation of our media rights and the seeming lack of efforts, focus and results delivered by those responsible. 'Even against the backdrop of the agreements that we are not allowed to see, we believe there are significant opportunities for all of us to generate meaningful incremental revenue, even for this season.' The FL remain convinced that the current Sky deal is a good one and have yet to see any evidence to the contrary. They are also appointing a broadcasting expert onto the staff to prepare for the next TV deals. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...ia-rights.html Quote:
Warring Derby County chairman Mel Morris only has to shout down the corridor at Pride Park to find out everything about the Football League’s current Sky TV agreement — which he believes is such a bad deal. Derby’s own chief operating officer John Vicars was one of the club reps on the FL’s commercial committee which oversaw the negotiation of the deal and approved it. Mel has yet to mention this while calling the other 71 clubs to arms against the FL executive. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/art...interests.html Quote:
The acrimony between Derby County and the Football League over Sky's domestic TV rights deal has become centred on the role played by Rams chief operating officer John Vicars in overseeing the contract. Whatever you may think about Charles Sale, he's doing an absolutely superb job of highlighting the dispute between Derby County and the Football League with persistent, detailed reporting on the subject. I am surprised little has been made of what has been going on in the various sports broadcasting threads on this forum.Vicars was on the FL commercial committee charged with approving the £90million-a-year agreement signed in July 2013. Derby chairman Mel Morris believes the FL could do a lot better, but has been refused access to the confidential contract he wants to examine. Vicars's involvement is seen by the FL as giving Morris all the inside knowledge he could want. But Vicars says he was never privy to the detail, nor in a position to veto anything. In this claim and counter-claim spat, the FL have produced the minutes from the conference call — two weeks before the Sky extension was announced — in which the commercial committee gave their unanimous backing to the deal, demonstrating that Vicars was hands on. The call from commercial director Richard Heaselgrave at 5.30pm on July 4, 2013, went through the proposal with Vicars and his colleagues, plus external lawyers, advising on the FL extending with Sky without issuing a formal tender or running a bid process. And the minutes record Vicars questioning whether BT would risk bad publicity by issuing a legal challenge. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...ia-rights.html Personally, I have a lot of sympathy with Mel Morris' point of view, although I'm looking at the deal from a different perspective to that of a Championship chairman. As a fan of a lower league club, I think the exclusive TV deals the league has struck with Sky Sports since 2004 haven't been healthy for the English game beneath the Championship - the television coverage and money from the Football League deal is now heavily skewed towards the second tier to a far greater extent than it was during the ITV regions/Sky 1996-2001/ITV Digital era, and I think we've seen a massive chasm grow between the second and third tier in the 12 years since 2004. Teams like Rotherham are now destined to be perennial relegation battlers if they are able to maintain their Championship place, long gone are the days when smaller clubs like them, Walsall, Crewe, Southend, Stockport, Colchester, Scunthorpe, Port Vale, Gillingham and Grimsby all had decent spells in Division One purely on merit (although fair play to Burton Albion for what they have managed to achieve this year). When you break down the TV contract and see that you only get 20 regular season live games from Leagues One and Two combined compared to an eye-watering 92 regular season matches from the Championship, it's not hard for fans of lower league clubs to look at BT Sport's deal with the National League with envy - 30 live games per season from the fifth tier of English football alone (including the five play-off matches). Given the strength of BT Sport's non-league coverage, not to mention the enthusiasm and willing put into it (especially compared to that of Sky Sports' lower league coverage, with them notoriously being unprepared to meet their agreed number of live games from the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in previous seasons according to documents the Football League released to clubs upon proposing the unpopular reforms to the Trophy), I think a partnership with them or another broadcaster is worth exploring when the rights next come up for renewal at the very least. If the EFL Trophy is to survive into next season (hopefully minus the youth teams), then given Sky's lack of interest in it - they've yet to show a game from the competition this season, despite matches coinciding with quiet international weeks - I think the league absolutely should offer match coverage from it to prospective new broadcasters. |
