I know she doesn't really go into any detail but It sounds like there is some issue.

the actual interview is here http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/east...it-pure-magic/

Interesting that Babs would have liked more time and more scenes

just goes to show that. dtc rushed the exit to get it into his tenure instead of storylining it in a better way
I bet by this time next year Babs will have done an interview saying how unhappy she was with her exit

Should have requested Kim Medcalf then. We all know Daniella is just a background actress

Kim Medcalf wouldn't have made a difference. It was never scripted for Peggy and Sam to meet.

Pointing that out isn't Babs isn't slagging off Danniella either. In fact Babs and Mike Reid were two of the cast members most supportive of her at the height of her personal problems. As mentioned here:

http://www.digitalspy.com/showbiz/ea...-giving-birth/

and in loads of other interviews over the years on-screen and in the press.

I would've liked Sam to be there but it's true what BW says; Peggy and her two sons are a more iconic sight. Due to being in and out of the show, Sam was never a big part of Peggy's character. That also applies to Kim's Sam who was also a background character between 2002-2003 and whose era Peggy was absent for most of.

I liked Peggy's exit but it was rushed. There probably wasn't time for a Sam reunion. Even the compulsory Grant was only in one episode.

I got an impression from Bab's interview that there may of been an issue with Westbrook. She is asked about why Peggy never crossed paths with Sam and Babs turns the question around back to Steve and Ross. Clearly a sore subject, But Babs did it in a polite way to avoid controversy.

The plot thickens and the mind boggles.

Babs even said herself in the 'Last Orders' special that she wonders if she will regret the decision to kill Peggy off. As much as I enjoyed it, the whole thing did feel a bit 'shoehorned in' and rushed, especially as the focus has immediately shifted to the Beale family dramas. Last week's episodes with Peggy/Phil/Grant almost felt like a spin-off from the main show.

And I didn't mind that Sam wasn't around for Peggy's death. We know she is at the funeral.

People reading more into an interview than there actually is and then announcing it as FACT. Love it.

I was just thinking the same but then this is DS. No wonder this soap forum has such a bad reputation to be fair.

Completely disagree

Maybe Barbra Windsor just doesn't like her and didn't want any scenes with her after all said and done it was about Barbra as Peggy's exit from EE not anyone else's.

Kim would have been the better choice.

I think it's time everyone got over Kim Mecalf's Sam now. I have. She hasn't been there for over ten years and isn't coming back.

Daniella is Sam.

Decided to read back the interview and I noticed this

"If we had more time, a few more scenes with characters like Kathy and maybe more with Sharon, Dot and Shirley"

BIB, why didn't they have more time. So this sorta backs up what others have been saying. This whole exit was rushed. Why? It was planned as far back as autumn.

I get the impression there were some scheduling changes which meant Barbara's return had to be pushed back. Her scenes were shot very close to broadcast, only 3 weeks or so, which is rare. It's also odd that we had virtually weeks of filler and then two massive storylines on top of each other (Peggy's death/Bobby attacking Jane).

If people preferred Kim as Sam that is up to them they are entitled to have that opinion.

As for Daniella even she won't be back permanently and her time will have come gone and be forgotten about soon enough.

Of course they're entitled to that opinion but going on like a broken record about it is tiresome.

BIB: Nobody knows that for sure. Sam isn't needed whilst Ronnie & Roxy are around. If they weren't around, they would probably have reintroduced Sam for a longer stint by now as they always did periodically before.

I preferred Kim's Sam but I've accepted she is never coming back.

Exactly. Daniella's Sam is basically Roxy, down to the hair extensions and terrible taste in men.

And going on about how Daniella should be Sam isn't.

I think Babs persuaded DTC to bring back Sam for Peggy's funeral and I'm sure she wanted to film some scenes with Daniella but Babs wanted to return for a brief stint. It's a pity Sam didnt have scenes with Peggy, Grant and Phil. Babs is right, she doesn't believe there is a stronger sight in soap history than the Mitchell brothers either side of Peggy.

Here's the original interview from Babs. I agree with her that many of us don't live in an ideal world.
