I would be disappointed if Eastenders win's best soap this year. I still really enjoy it but it's been a bit all over the place in the last year and i don't think the soap should be rewarded for that.

Emmerdale has been a bit up and down in the last few months but i still think it has had a stronger year than the other soaps. I still can't believe Emmerdale hasn't picked up a single best soap award at the BSA's, it's been in top form the last 4-5 years now.

The whole awards thing is a complete farce anyway, the little statue they get is not a symbol that the winner has done anything of quality. I don't know why some people take such a downer that their favourite program hasn't won. If Emmerdale did win, it wouldn't change anything. You wouldn't suddenly get an influx of non viewers tuning in.

In the grand scheme of things it matters very little, however ED fans and cast alike feel as though there is still a feeling of lack of recognition within the mainstream for the show's efforts. The show IMO has been consistently better for 5 years yet for one reason or another the show has been overlooked usually in favour of EE or CS. ED fans i'm sure will stick by it regardless, but it would be nice for ED to be applauded in the same light as the so called big two, and not seen as a poor relation/after-thought. Somehow the BSAs always seemed to be billed as a battle between EE and CS, when it reality there are five to choose from.

These awards can have a negative effect on the show. EPs smugly believing they're doing a great job when that may be far from the truth.

This might surprise some people but there is a world outside of DS. Just because something might not be popular on here doesn't mean the wider public agree.

But there is a counterargument that some of the die hard fans of CS and EE will think that their fave soap is also worthy of the win.

True, multiple voting does play its part and it's been made clear to me in the past that some do this for Hollyoaks and EastEnders.

But regardless, popularity doesn't equate to quality. Look how many people watch drivel such as reality programs.

For me personally, I don't get why people are so hooked up on award ceremonies. No one has ever given me a good reason as to why they think it's important a specific soap wins. I couldn't give a toss about ratings and awards. I watch EastEnders because I enjoy it, even when it's drastically bad I can still take something from it. I don't care if it wins 100 awards or none.

I was very surprised that the montage of clips they showed did not include anything from Shabnam's stillbirth storyline, which I thought was by far the best thing EE produced this year. Sharon Marshall did cite it, though, when she was asked for her opinion.

Yeah I agree. I would rather that they scrapped the whole "awards" thing and had a sort of tribute night instead. They could have an annual event where all the actors still get to wear their best clobber and they could showcase some clips of ththe best soap moments of the previous year. Maybe one or two of the actors could tell a funny story from behind the scenes or something. It would be a tribute show where all the soaps come together rather than battling it out for a bit of plastic to stick on a shelf.

I have a feeling that EE have realised that Rakhee's performance during that storyline was much more popular than they originally counted on and that she may currently be splitting the vote with Lacey Turner. Ergo they don't publicise the storyline or Rakhee as much. I could be wrong, though.

They've just posted this on Twitter: https://twitter.com/bbceastenders/st...64544283254784 and on Facebook as well. So it's not like they're not promoting her at all.

Weird she wasn't on the This Morning montage, though.

I always think that EE put forward one surefire vote winner ( usually Danny Dyer and Lacey Turner) and two performers, who they consider won't be any threat in terms of splitting the vote. That's why they wouldn't put Steve McFadden or Jessie Wallace forward in this category this year, despite the fact that they both gave arguably the best performances during the last year.
