As I've reflected on things, I've realised that this is the main issue. Yes the production team are clueless and past their best, but ITV forcing Corrie into this senseless 'event' week year on year is beyond ridiculous. All we get are awkward story arcs, terrible pacing and plot device after plot device.
This week, for instance, we got the conclusion of two stories that didn't really need to be concluded at the same time: the wedding/Carla's departure and the uncovering of the body at the Platts. The car crash was an irrelevant plot device and one of the worst Corrie has used in years. No police investigation even though at least one woman (Cathy) was seriously hit. No police investigation even though the accident resulted in serious damage to property. No police investigation even though Carla had been drinking. No police investigation even though TracyLuv was at the centre of the accident - surely she would have relished the opportunity to twist the knife with the police and wail on at the police that: "She's a psycho! She tried to kill me!"
The other problem was, that since the Platts were central characters in the wedding saga, having the truck crash into the Platts' garage was ridiculous. As soon as their house was partly destroyed, the Platts were no longer part of that story. We didn't get a single scene with the Platts and Carla, even though just hours before we had Gail smacking Carla round the chops and giving her a piece of her mind. No scenes of Nick with the Platts either. It was very disjointed.
Bleurgh.
Sadly, I think that Corrie is in a critical state now and will only decline further over the coming years. ITV clearly don't care about their (supposed) 'flagship show' and the people in charge over in Salford are pretty clueless.
