CS: Will anyone ever beat Bill Roache's long service record?
Depending on how you count it, Bill Roach has a long-service record of 55 years 6 months or 52 years and abt 6 months. Does anyone think any other character will beat his record? Assuming he stays in the show until his late 80s he's going to clock up well over 60 years on the show!
Eileen Derbyshire, is probably closest, and her strictly calculated long-service award ended in January, at just under 55 years longer than that of Bill's. |

I doubt it.
Helen Worth would need to work until 2030 (another 14 years) to match his record. Helen Worth is 65 now so she would need to keep going until 79 to match that. To be fair, I could see her doing that - and would love to to be fair. Gail is a legend and Helen Worth is lovely! Barbara Knox (Rita) would need to stay until 2019 to match his record too. I hope she does too! We will see! |

Possibly Helen Worth if she stays until way into her 80s as she has already done over 40 years or Simon Gregson if he stays for life?

Jack P Shepherd might if he sticks around. He's 28 and done 15 years already, so if he left in his late 60s early 70s he could beat Bill's records.

![]() But to be fair I don't mind Sean. He's a bit annoying but I don't mind him at all. |

Fair play to anyone that can, nice work if you can get it, just reading a few lines that someone else has written, more or less a 9 to 5 job, on much more than minimum wage who would refuse it if offered if they were really being honest, I know I wouldn't.

Regardless he was contracted with the soap. That year should be added on.

I definitely wouldn't, but I'd expect the hours to be longer than 9-5. They don't seem to publicise the auditions for it that much though, not that I'd have remotely near the acting ability required.

Soaps are not 9-5. They vary in hours depending on which of the prominent characters are used and the storylines. So Lacey turner may work more hours than usual in one month and then less hours the next

No doubt the soap actors themselves will big it up on how hard worked they are.

It's included in the longer figure, the question's whether his continuous service can include the year for the trial? If not then it's 52yrs and a few months, if it can then it's 55 years and just shy of 6 months and counting.

It's 54 or 55, where have you got 52 from? Anyway, it should all be included, he was under contract so part of the cast.

Very random to bring an actress from EastEnders into a thread that clearly concerns a Coronation Street veteran.

Any job is hard work but in terms of television, Soap work is slightly harder. You are learning several scripts at one time and you don't film it episode by episode. It's all filmed out of order. So in the morning they might film a bit of episode 1 and then by the afternoon, they will might be filming some scenes for episode 6.

How does it compare to working a 12 hour shift in a factory, non-stop from the time you clock on to the time you clock off apart from the statutory breaks, I have done that in the past luckily not anymore, I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.
