They just did what any loving and panicking parent would do, then realised their error later on.

I'm really hoping that's sarcasm.
Its only when things begin to get out of hand around you that you realise how shocking your actions were. Then you feel its too late. Also, I bet none of you have seen a loved one die and had difficulty accepting it for a long time. If you had, you'd know how numb it can be and you just want to carry on like nothings happened. Your in denial, shock, have lots of emotions going through your mind. And if it was your wife, daughter and son you were protecting, because of an accident, you wouldn't be as callous. Life can seem very black and white but when you are face to face with the reality of a situation, it seems so much more complicated. |

No. You've just found out your 11 year old got angry and hit someone. You believe they can be helped, as lots of people get anger management and come through okay. You decide to help them, as you know it was an accident, and don't think through the consequences (if criminals stopped and thought of consequences the police would be in the dole queue).

I'm sure plenty of people have experienced it, I know that I have and in some very tragic circumstances. I totally understand that until you are faced with a situation you never know what you will actually do. You can say that you would like to think that you would behave in a certain way but whether or not you would is another matter. That said, it still doesn't necessarily excuse your actions! And if everyone accepted what Ian and Jane did over the course of over a year then we would be in a moral abyss. |

Respectfully disagree. "they just did what any loving and panicking parent would do" is your initial statement. Any loving and panicking parent would call for an ambulance the moment they saw their child lying on the floor. Any loving and panicking parent would not bundle the body of their child into the boot of the car or dump it out on the common. And a loving parent would not subject other family members to months of torture wondering who killed Lucy and why.

Also, any loving parent would have called the ambulance and taken the blame themselves if they wanted to save their child. And they certainly wouldn't have let an innocent man go to prison instead. One of them should have taken the blame if they were so he'll bent of truly protecting bobby.
![]() Jane is the villain in this and needs to face prison |

Sorry I'm not willing to sacrifice two of the best and the longest serving characters to serve some overblown moral outrage from people who are seeming to forget that its a TV SHOW

If it's only a TV SHOW then you won't be too upset when "two of the best and longest serving characters" are "sacrificed"!

You may not but the TV SHOW has f.cked up big time. I didn't want to lose Ian and Jane either but it is no moral crusade to want a semblance of credibility.

In reality they probably would be jailed but I am willing to buy whatever excuse they come up with to keep them on screen. I like both Jane & Ian and I don't care if things get really contrived to let them off.
Like many others have mentioned, it is a TV show. It can't be realistic all the time if it wants to remain entertaining. |

For an example of a parent forgiving a child and hoping they have learnt a lesson, look at Phil with Ben after he murdered Heather, and Dot with young Nick.

I think it will be assumed, by the police, or at least a case will be put forward for his defence that Lucy left the house after Bobby hit her, and later died of her injuries. It will be put that Bobby thought he had killed her but that he couldn't if she ended up in the woods. I do not think Bobby was ever told that Jane moved the body, Max will then be released as his prosecution will be deemed unsafe because of what Bobby said. Janes involvement will not actually come out to the police. There are too many characters that will have to go to jail if it all were to come out. Ian will not let Jane go to jail and they will both realise that Bobby needs help.

I rest my case. Not exactly as I thought but nor far off it.... With regards Max it only has to make his prosecution unsafe, and new evidence does that.
