I'd say that was a simple salad base. If I take a salad to work for my lunch I'll have that plus other stuff like peppers, beetroot, usually some couscous with harissa, potato salad, some nice cheese and then a couple of things like king prawns, chorizo, black pudding, mackerel etc.

That all sounds lovely . Can I appoint you Salad-maker General

My salads definitely need livening up.
O/h likes shop coleslaw and potato salad but I can't abide the tons of gloopy mayonnaise they use. Home-made potato salad with herbs, olive oil and just a little mayo is very nice.

I love homemade potato salad, I sometimes put apple and red onion in it too. A good tip if you don't like too much mayo is to use 50/50 mayo and yoghurt.

I don't like the mayo either. Use baby Jersey royals or other waxy potatoes. Let them go luke warm then dress with crème fraiche (half and half is fine) a spoonful of wholegrain mustard and lots of sea salt and black pepper. If you have them some chopped gherkin or capers is yum or spring onion. Finally a handful of herbs chopped small- whastever you like- Mint works or dill, basil, parsley - chives are fab.

I love tongue, but didn't try it until I went over to Russia to meet my future in-laws.

Prior to that I just didn't fancy it, because it was, well a tongue

Anyhoo, my first evening, a spread was laid, and along with all sorts of tastiness was this plate of 'meat'

The MIL to be speaks as much English as I speak Russian (ie none) and likes to feed the menfolk, so a pile of this is pushed onto my plate, whether I want it or not. Bloody marvellous it was.

We buy a whole tongue from a nearby village butchers, which we discovered, just because we wanted to cook tongue, we don't think the sliced stuff at the deli counter is as good.

It's one of those traditional butchers that knows about what they sell, and was initially a bit taken aback that we wanted to buy a whole tongue and cook it ourselves, clearly not many people in the area do that.

He gave us advice on the best way to deal with it, and it turned out just as lovely.

We go there quite regularly, and as soon as we walk in the shop he knows we are there for two things; tongue and their faggots (the proper ones, like bricks, not the mushy crap), we don't buy anything else

I like it. I think if we kill an animal for food we should eat as much of it as possible.

Saturday Kitchen Best Bites Saturday 9th July Tom Kitchin cooked lambs tongue with sweetbreads.
Looked delicious.

Not really I do remember the first time I eat Tongue.

It was as a kid, mum and dad lead me to believe it was ham with a bit of spice in it, then after I eat it , they then told me what it was

My mum used to feed me tongue sandwiches when I was young and times were hard.
I was too young to know/care about where food came from and I don't remember ever complaining that they weren't quite nice.

Since then, just seeing big chunks of tongue laid out on butchers counters etc has totally turned me. I'm very much a case of ignorance is bliss when it comes to meat. Offal totally grosses me out, I can't touch it. Yeah it might be ground up in a cheap sausage or burger but again, if I don't know I don't care!

So yeah, no complaints, but I couldn't see myself buying it by choice.

Tongue is OK, but I always have a nagging doubt that it's tasting me rather than the other way round.

I usually cook and press tongue at Christmas as the family like it with other cold meats.
Sometimes you used to find it in the supermarket but now you need to order it from the butcher and it is not very expensive.
The already cooked and sliced ox tongue you find on the deli counter is often a bit salty and comparative to doing your own is much more expensive.

Before I cook it I usually soak it in the sink for a few hours in cold water, not really necessary now but the old fashioned method. One day my daughter saw it and said ,'ugh whatever is that?' That is why most people are put off cooking it.

Yes, I like a nice tongue sandwich, but I get mine already sliced from Sainsburys.

I had a bad experience in a restaurant once, ordered, got served, and not only had they put too much chilli on it, my tongue was raw!

Bought some small tinned tongue in Tesco as they were reduced from £2.70 to 67p but it's not as good. Bit mushy and soggy. Maybe cos I hadn't reriferated it before slicing. Very high in salt too. Not sure if the deli ones are too. The dog loves it but only gave a taste due to the salt content.
