EE; Babs wanted Longer
Barbara revealed the other day she wanted Longer to play out her exit and more scenes with the likes of Kathy, Sharon, Shirley ect.
Plus did we get a scene with Grant, Sharon, Phil and Kathy? |

I'm still at a loss as to why we got scenes with Peggy and Stacey and Peggy and Ian, when really she should have had one on one scenes with Kathy and Billy.

Overall, it was a mess and done far too quick. |

Sarah Phelps said there was a Kathy scene in her script which changed everything but EastEnders decided against filming it.

I can imagine its cost quite a bit to for Barbara and Ross.
However if the story couldn't be done properly DTC shouldn't have done it all. |

I liked the storyline more than her exit in 2010 but I honestly did not see the point of the scenes with Stacey, Dot and Ian. Peggy was never close to any of them. Perhaps Barbara is close to them in real life but it jarred on screen. Particularly when she had nothing with Sam, Billy or Kathy who are characters Peggy worked with a lot.
Was I alone in thinking Grant's addition to the storyline was superfluous? Great to have him back but in all honesty his return was too brief and meaningless to get excited about. I know he's coming back again but if it's another blink and you'll miss it visit he might as well stay gone. |

The aftermath has been terrible too. None of the faaaaamily seem to care outside of Phil. All too busy celebrating Stacey and Martin's wedding...

Where did she say this? I read an interview on DS where she said it would have been nice to do more scenes with Sharon etc but not that she wanted more scenes and was refused. I think it's easy to blame DTC but Babs had already left and she decided she now wanted to kill Peggy off and given her relationship with DTC he brought her back for a short tenure to facilitate this, some producers may have just given her an off screen death. If she had come back for longer she would have had to be worked into story lines which were possibly already written and the Bobby storyline would have had to be put on hold. I do think it was rushed but I think that is the price we payed to have her death and have Ross Keep back.
She first told DTC she wanted to leave LAST SUMMER, so a year ago, she decided afyer she heard rumours he was leaving, so DTC decided he was leaving EE before last summer! |

It felt so rushed it was pointless doing it at all, but I guess if she particularly wanted DTC to oversee it and he was leaving, with storylines all well planned out (including the major storyline of his tenure being brought to a head), then it had to be crowbarred in.
One thing I keep hearing over and over again is "Babs wanted". Well Babs isn't the boss. |

Who cares if she wanted longer. Call me what you will, I know she was iconic to the show but lately she seemed a bit selfish, just dropping in and out whenever she pleased.

Because her exit had nothing to do with Eastenders, it was about Dom and Barbara giving themselves a great big pat on the back for all their hard work. The entire exit was a shambles, and yet more proof of DTCs sheer arrogance, as if we needed it.
Thanks. |

I've seen an interview with Windsor where she said she began to have second thoughts and wished she was back for longer once she was side by side with Ross and Steve again. However, they obviously couldn't extend her stint at that point. Since she helped plan this exit, has only made cameo appearances in recent years, and has admitted that she doesn't like learning lines anymore, I think she must've been happy with the initial six episodes planned at least.
Too bad if she changed her mind later. Ross Kemp was only in and out anyway so her joy at being reunited acting-wise with him wouldn't have lasted long. I thought it was mostly good with the boat trip and Peggy's last episode being the highlights. But parts were rushed and she didn't get to interact with everyone she should have. I would've liked her to have one on ones with Billy and Kathy. Especially Kathy after what she did to her sons. Even the scene with Sharon, nice though it was, could've been more. Sam should have been back. I can understand why she had scenes with Ian and Stacey after the Mitchell's long-running hatred of the former and what occurred between the latter and Archie. However, her scene with Stacey glossed over the fact completely that Peggy had left hating her. Dot is harder to justify and maybe that could've gone to someone else. The two have crossed paths before and been friendly enough but they were never friends. I liked the scene and I understand why they wheeled Dot out for a token scene, she was sort of there in lieu of Pat, but Kathy is more relevant to Peggy's character. |

It all seemed a bit shoehorned to fit in around the wedding and before the Bobby attacking Jane and Lucy's killer reveal.

There is a thing on Iplayer called Last Orders and you do get the impression she now regrets asking to be killed off. Makes me wonder if she made a rash decision without thinking. Maybe the fact Ross Kemp is coming back for another stint has also upset her. She probably never thought he would return, now there is a chance he will keep popping back Bab's wishes she could too.

Babs left in 2010. It was either come back for a 3 - 6 month stint with a full storyline or do a few episodes. She didn't want the former so it was the latter. To have dragged out what was basically Peggy wandering around saying her goodbyes would have soon got boring. A few uber Peggy would have lapped it up but in this instance less is more.

We could have had Peggy return have full scenes with people like Kathy, Claudette, ect, she could have came back for a month, 3 weeks even two |

Babs isn't the boss and I agree she doesn't have the final say in Peggy's exit but I wish she shared some scenes with Billy and Kathy. Babs revealed she wished she filmed some scenes with Kathy and one of the writers said she wrote a Kathy and Peggy scene but it was cut. I don't know why Peggy had scenes with Dot but didn't Babs say she asked to film some scenes with June Brown? If I recall correctly, they are close friends in real life.
I loved Peggy's exit but it was very rushed and there was a lot of hype from January until now. I feel a bit cheated, to be honest. |

It's a shame they cut the Kathy scenes.

So it now transpires that Bab's didn't have any input into Peggy's death.

It's been handled terribly and made worse by the fact DTC is proud of it.

She should have had scenes with Ben and Louise as well.
