Yes, something that has gotten lost in all this is that he is not a particularly good magician.

He performed a fairly basic card trick last night but fluffed the majority of it (and was rewarded with £250k and a spot at the Royal Variety for his trouble)
I hope he splits the 250BP with the old WWII vet. He's the guy who won it for him. A REAL combat soldier, not a bandsman.

Thing is, i think until there's a method of judging the eventual winner from the point of the first audition up to, and including, the final performance, then you're going to get things like this happening.

You could have someone who performs consistently well from the very first time they appear all the way to the end and then someone else comes out and pulls a stunt like this in the final and walks away with it.
According to the odds, Richard was the consistent act going into the final. So if this sentimental stunt is what won it for him then he basically stole the victory from himself.

I wonder why codeblue isnt complaining about Jamie Raven doing bill in lemon last year or Torn and restored newspaper this year? Or Christian Lee doing card stab or card in wallet, heaven forbid he realizes those tricks have been performed thousands of times since magic began.
Maybe Oz Pearlman from AGT shouldn't have marketed his routine for sale if he didnt want anyone else to perform it? Before going on BGT Richard Jones should have sat down and watched every single magic performance ever to make sure he didnt do the same as any one else.
Then people slagging off Richard's sleight of hand skills etc. it was a talent show not Magic Circle magician of the year awards. Not everyone is Lennart Green or Derren Brown skill level.Try get some perspective.

I thought the trick itself was very underwhelming and the rest was just sentimentality.
Perfect description.
