Anyone else want to see him win this year?

I don't want another singer or dog act to win and so I will be voting for him, along with some college friends I've asked to also vote. He has also promised to donate the prize money to WWF if he wins as well, so that's another reason to vote for him.

Please support me in my little mission by voting for him. But I don't think it has a wide enough audience to win tonight, but it would be so refreshing to see him do it.

Thank you!

He is great! Would be happy if he won even though I voted for another act.

I see that he was wearing a safety wire stopping him when he got near the chainsaw. To be honest I don't really blame him, health and safety and all. Still a pretty good act.

it did appear he was wearing a safely harness for the unlive final act, something that wasnt mentioned by anyone.

it was also obvious that he stops himself well before danger, and then simlpy extends his body to give the impression he dropped much closer to the danger.

I'm pretty sure this so called "safety wire" was merely there in case the pole fell, it's clearly visible throughout the whole act, attatching the top of the pole to the ground near the stage entrance.

Just watched it again on Youtube. There's no safety harness. There are a few things keeping the pole in place, but nothing actually attached to Alex himself.

Also, think about it, the whole reason why ITV refused to show it live was because there was a very real danger!

He was clearly attached to a wire, but with a stunt like this it's probably best to http://metro.co.uk/2016/05/29/did-br...final-5911383/

No he wasn't. Watch it again, there's a tether thing for the pole directly behind him (which is there all the time), but it's definitely not on him. (Also you don't see him attach himself to a harness or unattach himself afterwards.)

The Metro are making the same mistake as you are. The "safety wire" that you can see is the tether for the pole, but because of the angle from which it is filmed with the tether directly behind, it gives the unfortunate illusion of being attached to Alex. If you pay attention that same tether/wire is there the whole time, even before Alex climbs the pole.

You can see from the pictures that if he wasn't arching his back at just the right angle his face would be getting chopped by the chainsaw, even if the wire was holding him.

I think you have to conclude that this show is nonsense for Alex to have placed as low as he did. You'd think that something as engaging as his act was coupled with the expertise he would have from lots of intense training that the voters would appreciate that as real talent.

What I would say against him as that he did the same act 3 times basically. Whether it's a chainsaw or a sword waiting at the bottom of the pole, still the same basic thing.

That's a fair point really.

I know nothing about chain saws but thought it was somehow being made safe when it picked up by an assistant after cutting through the log. If you look at the video, can you see what I mean?

watching the clip, its now clear that it was not a safety wire, it was a teather for the pole.

the chain on the saw was definitaly rotating too

That's true - and the other thing is that not everyone enjoys this kind of act. I can admire his skill and athleticism, but have no desire to see someone (nearly or actually) impaling themselves on a sword, chainsaw or drills. The danger element is lost on me.

This is in the papers and I'd really unfair. He wasn't wearing a wire. That cable was one of the cables holding up the pole.. it was unfortunate he was level with it and the camera. He had nothing attached to him

Anyone else get annoyed by the camera angle when he fell down the pole?

We switched to some stupid camera just beneath the drillbit/chainsaw when he dropped down, surely the better view is away and watching his fall like the audience would

Yes it's a really unfortunate camera angle and it's annoying and unfair on Alex because it's taking away some of the impressiveness of the act. If there was footage being filmed from the side it would be very clear that there was no safety wire.

Yes, I did think it was rather stupid. Camera angles in general really needed better planning for this performance! Doesn't usually matter that much, but for this act it did.

dont think it would be very good at the royal performance the queen and her husband are both in their 90s,they might have had heart attacks,he would have to had toned it down a lot so it wouldnt have been so dramatic

I think they should do away with this Royal Variety thing, acts shouldn't have to be thinking what will two 90 year olds like, it shouldn't be about that.
