4K Tv
Im looking at getting one hopefully within next few months. Obviously you get what you pay for. I've seen this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KD-65S...words=65S8505C im not sure why this is so cheap for what is 65inch 4k 3d tv. I've actually seen it for £1500. Plus its HDR ready.

What's so great about that for 2549? I've seen a 'Toshiba' UHD 48in with '3D' for 359. Plenty of scope to make a good 65 inch for an extra 2090.

Aldi are doing a 48in 4k TV for £300.
It'll probably be cheap for a reason but might be nice as a 2nd tv. https://www.aldi.co.uk/48%22-4k-ultr...71056038609300 |

HDR ready means nothing. It's either HDR or it's not. To be HDR it needs to reach a standard called HDR 10 (made by the UHD Alliance). It needs to reach DCI-P3 colour standard (1bn colours, 10bit panel) and reach 1000nits of brightness in movie mode.

Just remember that 65 inch is a very large screen, if you are close to it you will see faults on everything and SD will be out of the question.

Providing you choose higher up the range of 4k TV's and you don't go for one of the budget or cheaper models, your seating distance will be no problem, you won't grab all the detail from 4k, but you will be able to tell the difference between 4k and HD and SD will still be perfectly watchable. |

We have a 65" UHD TV, it's not our main screen so seating is not placed for serious viewing, the closest you can sit is about 6ft, quality sourced 4k looks absolutely stunning, good sourced HD (BD) generally looks better than on a 1080 TV and SD is perfectly watchable, especially the higher up channels, where the notion came that SD is totally unwatchable on 4K is baffling to me.

I have been mulling going 4k as well. I am only willing to make the jump to a oled 4k tv. Will also wait for E3 to happen to see what ms and sony are up to with there new consoles. Plus if ms are going to announce that all xbox games are coming to pc day one release then I will probably switch to pc gaming.
Think I will be waiting till next year as it stands. Xbox 4k - 2017 pc - waiting to see if nividia 1080 cards run all new games at 4k/60fps Oled TV's - The panels might be cheaper next year Then there is 8k coming around the corner. http://www.cnet.com/uk/news/8k-tv-br...016-olympics/#! |

Which Tv do you have? Definitely not getting a budget Tv unless 2k is classed as budget for 4k HDR tvs.
The panasonic DX902 has has very good reviews, over budget but if you can hang on I bet it'll drop nearer your 2K in the future, it's being discounted by £300 already. Panny do the DX802 for under £2k but max screen size is only 58", not 65". |

The fact that 4K pictures look good at 6ft is irrelevant, most people will not be watching 4K or even HD BD all day will they. |

I didn't say SD was unwatchable on a 4K set, I said it was, in my opinion, unwatchable on a 65 inch set, HD or 4K, at a distance of 8 and a half feet. I therefore felt he should do a quick check at his local store to see if he thought it was OK for him personally. Sky News on Freeview is bad enough on a 40 inch set at 10ft for example, it depends on what he is going to watch.

Got to be a low grade TV if Sky News on Freeview is bad at 10ft on a 40" TV - I can feed my PJ with SD on a 120" screen and it's perfectly watchable, and that's at 10ft. 4k viewing may not be relevant to everyone, but the fact is you can position a 4k TV in the same way you can a HDTV where the viewer will still benefit from all formats paying and SD will still be perfectly watchable. |

LG and OLED have it in my book.
For years I've put up with blacks that are actually gray, especially in dark scenes. I've swapped to a 4K OLED with HDR TV after 10 years service of my faithful Sony LCD TV and the difference is remarkable. And I haven't even managed to hook up a 4K source yet. UHD 4K blu ray player next. It's expensive, but I expect this TV to last another 10 years. There's no going back!

Black levels were poor on all LCD TVs 10 years ago. I replaced a five year old, one four years ago and the improvement in black level and motion handling/smearing was remarkable. Current sets are even better if a recent set I purchased is anything to go by. All sets Sony by the way.
I recently changed my 8 year old Honda Civic for the latest version, it was much better as well, it's called progress. |

It will be nice to be able to watch AVP2 and actually be able to see what is going on in the dark bits. Same with Batman Vs Superman.
I do wish they would stop making films so dark. |

A real shame plasma production stopped, I'm lucky enough to have grabbed one of the best plasmas ever made, the Panasonic ZT60, blacks/contrast are equally as good if not better than the Pioneer Kuro and earlier OLED's, it has no problem with dark level detail, I'm dreading the day it packs in, hopefully OLED's will have proven themselves because there is no way I would have an LCD. |
