I could be wrong but I thought the BBC had to rest Neighbours a couple of times a year in order to be able not to catch up with Australia and they just use the two weeks at Wimbledon as a time where it can stay a few weeks behind?

Yeah they do have to take a break, but they took it off twice last year so we are even further behind, so IMO its only fair if they don't take it off this year.

UK SHOULD catch up with Australia, catching up is NOT a bad thing as some would have us believe. In fact Neighbours could be shown in Britain before Oz (afterall Tru Calling was shown in NZ before America !). |

Nope - won't sign - makes sure we don't get too far ahead and not everyone has BBC3. Now, if it was a petition for an omnibus...

44% of nobody = 44*0/100=0
I think Neighbours has 700,000 viewers in Australia, H&A has between 1.5 and 2 million viewers, top US dramas have over 2 million viewers. If it weren't for Britain Neighbours would have been cancelled long ago, Breakers (another C10 soap) was. It's not uncommon, Heartbreak High (originally a C10 drama) had no Australian broadcaster for a while when they axed it. It was financed by the BBC and France mainly and off the air down under until the ABC picked it up. It got the axed later when the BBC didn't want to buy a new series because they still had the previous one to show. The production company was ready to film but just didn't have enough money to go ahead. Under a million viewers is not enough to finance a soap or a drama. It's not like realityTV where you don't need writers and actors who tend to like to get paid. |

And i wouldn't call 700,000 people "nobody's"! |

It says in the above link Neighbours is currently averaging 944,000 viewers a night not 700,000 and last time I saw ratings for h&a (about 3 months ago) it was on 1.2 million so quite close really. It not a competition. It is not 44% of nobody btw its 44% of either viewers between 16- 39 or of the whole audience. In Britain I know we would consider a share like that to be good. There's no need to be negative all the time.

Will sign, but there is a contractual agreement between the BBC and Channel 10 that we have to be about 8 weeks behind. Thems the rules

I dont have BBC3 either unfortunatly. However I think they should put neighbours on BBC2. I watch neighbours everyday and I get bored when its not on, because that time of my day is normally occupied!! I enjoy watching wimbledon, as I play tennis myself
. However i dont think those of you who do not want to watch wimbledon should have to go 2 weeks without it. No other sport puts in out of place.

In the other thread it says : Meanwhile, week 17 was one of the strongest of 2005 for Neighbours, which won more than 40% of the 16-39 audience each night and an average 944,000 viewers. So usually it's MUCH lower, about 700,000 in fact. I think it probably goes as low as 500,000 regularly actually. Let's face no one watches it down under. It was even axed in NZ. H&A will probably have over 2 million viewers every week by the end of the year. |

Don't forget it is off air for around 6 weeks at Christmas in Australia, without the breaks here, we'd be ahead of them in no time. In fact, we'd be seeing it before they'd had chance to film it within a couple of years! |
