How many times has Shirley Carter attempted to murder someone?
I read someone saying she has tried to kill 4 different people.
I know she tried to kill Mick, Dean and Phil but who is the other one? |

When it comes to Ben, Dean and Phil you can't really blame her. Although with all that annoying faux-cockney stuff I suppose she deserves a medal for trying to rid us of Mick too.

I wish they would explore why Shirley reacts the way she does in regards to trying to drown people. In real life that would suggest her own childhood trauma with water. I said it last week. I wish they had explored her and Sylvia's relationship a bit better.

Didn't Stan try and drown her/Mick as a kid or was it her who tried to drown Mick as a kid?

It's alarming she tried to MURDER 4 people
![]() She was a vile woman for trying to drown her baby son in the bath. It's disturbing she thought about killing Mick in the bath. Two wrongs doesn't make a right!! Ben killed Hev but Shirley had no right to play judge, jury and executioner.... Shirley physically pushed Ben's head in the bath water and was that close to murdering the poor sod! Ben killing Hev wasn't premeditated and it's laughable because she bullied poor Hev before she died and made her choose between her and Andrew Cotton. That incident with Dean in the bath shocking! She was sitting in the bathroom and was thinking about her next move and don't say Shirley drowning Dean was an "accident" because it wasn't! He was lifeless in the bath.I couldn't believe she got sympathy for shooting Phil Mitchell. She pointed a loaded gun at Phil and Sharon on their wedding day from the Queen Vic window and she was thinking of pulling the trigger but pulled out. After maliciously ruining their wedding reception, she went to Phil's house with a loaded weapon and pointed the gun at Phil and Sharon but shot Phil!! She got away with it again

Not enough in my view. Shirley could bump off half the square and I would still love her.

Attempted murder is notoriously difficult to prove. So much so that a lesser charge is often preferred. In soap, incidents which could count as attempted murder are ten a penny. Quote:

Shirley was fourteen at the time and had been both abused and neglected by her own parents. One of whom had been raising Mick until shortly before the incident, before he was suddenly left to Shirley's care. All of that would count as mitigation had this come to the attention of the police. Shirley would probably have been taken into care with Mick and Tina. With Ben, she actually pulled his head out of the water so he could breathe, before Phil got there. Even though she told him he was going to see Heather beforehand, I think she was just trying to frighten him. The police would be hard pushed to prove otherwise. Of any of these incidents, it is most likely to stand up with Dean since she took it to a point he lost consciousness. I don't think anyone would deny she was trying to kill him. Had she succeeded, I think Shirley would've been prepared to go to prison for that. She didn't run away. It feels odd to say trying to kill someone is being kind to them, but part of her thought process, alongside trying to put right the hurt caused to Linda, was that she was doing Dean a favour in sparing him a stint in prison as a sex offender. And some people saw this as the start of her redemption after siding with Dean. Again it feels odd to say that a character trying to kill someone was an action viewed as redemptive by some. But it's true. Anyway, Dean tried to drown her after this, so tit for tat. ![]() Shooting Phil would almost certainly be viewed as attempted murder by the police as well - but only had she outright shot him and not in the midst of a struggle. Which is what we were led to believe happened. Like the Mick incident, this happened off-screen. But when Shirley had Phil in front of her and a clear aim, she didn't shoot him. If the writers want us to think she shot him intentionally, why didn't they have her do it in one of those moments? She would face criminal charges - serious ones - but possibly not attempted murder. Welcome back to the forum btw. Your names have been a bit quiet recently. Did you feel a bit bad about driving Ell_Ren away? |
