Identify a classical piece for me from a TV programme
I was watching men's gymnastics from Bern Switzerland on BBC2 today and they were playing various music in the background. And one piece is driving me mad, because it's stuck in my head, it is very familiar, but I can't identify it. It should be on iPlayer, in the last half an hour, it was a competition on a high bar, during the performance of Russian David Belyavskiy. I cannot check if the link is correct, I am outside UK. Thanks to a kind soul that can put my mind to rest

It's the 2nd movement of Beethoven's 7th Symphony, the allegretto.
Leonard Bernstein conducting. https://youtu.be/J12zprD7V1k It is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written. |

Beethoven was Da Man
I always think of Beethoven as The Beatles of Classical Music........

Well, if I were Beethoven, when the theme culminates around 2:44 in that Bernstein video, I would switch a key and repeat the theme at the same intensity. It would make it more insistent
Anyway it's a right earworm, not sure if identifying it made things better or worse

I always think the 7th is one that people come to later when they're getting into Beethoven symphonies.........maybe along with the 4th
I reckon most people would be drawn to 3, 5, 6 and 9 which all include tunes that most people might know, even if they didn't know where they came from 4 and 7.........maybe a bit more for the connoisseur (like what I am !.......... )As for 1, 2 and 8.......I think I probably only listened to them once then never bothered again.........does anyone think they're any good ? |
