a viewer tweeted to one of the writers if Steven and Johnny was ever going to happen.

The response: "Ooh, now there's a thought..."

Like it's not been discussed behind close doors already! Really?

The writers wouldn't know. On soaps they tend to write the dialogue and instructions to a pre-produced storyboard that covers virtually every aspect, a writer wouldn't really have much stay on story arcs.

Talk is cheap, and this sounds like lip service to me. I'm beyond frustrated with EE's commitment to showing LGBT characters in prominent relationships. They just don't seem to care. There have been so many highly regarded LGBT relationships and storylines on TV this year and yet the most EE could come up with was a relationship between Ben and Paul that began with Ben going back on the closet, a cliched pregnancy scare, all the worst stereotypes about gay men and STIs, and ended up with one of them dead, a few brilliant and searing episodes exploring the impact on Ben, Les and Pam, before reverting it back to a farcical Mitchell revenge plot. I'm not even going to bother discussing Sonia/Tina, an absolute insult to lesbian relationships.

They really could have had something special with Johnny and Steven but they decided we'd rather watch Lauren and Steven bickering and sniping with each other and nothing about the circumstances in which they got together making much sense, all the while expecting us an audience to invest in them.

If Pete Lawson really thinks Johnny and Steven are an interesting idea then he should be beating down SOC's door to push it. If I was a writer on EE that was remotely interested in LGBT issues, I'd be ashamed at the current status of the gay characters on the show.

Thank you Aaron. I know I shouldn't be getting so het up about it, but having watched some absolutely brilliant shows recently with LGBT characters at the forefront, in complex and realistic relationships, I really passionately believe that EE needs to get better at this.

Changes are happening behind the scenes at EE. Oliver Kent is going to be a big boss.

Let's hope he'll make something happen between J&S!
