Re: star in car, I think Chris was expecting more of a 'OOhhh AAhhh' reaction from the audience to things like the track now incorporating a dirt section and water trough, a reaction he didn't really get. If you watch it back at one point he gives a rather pathetic little clap and 'yeahhh' when one of the stars goes through the water trough ... problem is no one else really joined in with him.
I'm still going to give it into the 2-3 episode though to see if it improves enough for me to keep watching. I understand where folk are coming from when they say along the lines of 'why would the BBC want to change a very successful core format??' it's just that, for me, I was hoping to see a move away from the same old same old.

'Oh look, they're going to have a 'race' across a continent!'
