You have touched a nerve here. I HATE WORD. I use Excel as my word processor (it's then useful for sorting and counting etc)

Perhaps I could copy it over to Word when finished - I'll give it a try
I've uploaded from Excel as well to dropbox Isih & it worked ok
Whiffle - love the questions, actually really love the pie chart - inner geek coming out again. If I ever meet him on a train, in a cafe is my little daydream, I will endeavour to prise the answers out of him.
Lola I think my inner geek has been joined by an inner Statto!
I

Many thanks again StrictlyRed for being reserve - in case Whiffle is held up by J turning up on her doorstep for tea on Friday
Oh my I think that comes under the wishful thinking category.

Korky I don't know why but the first paragraph of this article made me think of you

Final Review - or maybe that should say Review of Final!!

THE DANCES
QS danced so much more competently and joyously.
Its complexity alone, never mind its execution in the circumstances, deserved a 10 somewhere.
But it was never going to stand out in people's minds e.g like Harry's QS as the music was wrong.

Showdance was so beautiful and clever, but I did feel it gave the judges, who wanted to gripe, an opening.

Red Paso
Makes me smile just saying it. Jay had really improved his lines and execution. Loved the uncontrolled smile and triumphant arm gesture.

Re QS
The last thing a supposed head judge should be saying is, well you wanted it to be perfect, but it wasn't.....I couldn't believe my ears and my heart sank.
Would make a useless teacher.
It should have been along the lines of - that was the most difficult dance we could have given you and you rose to the challenge magnificently showing a great improvement. Well done.
There was a small mistake, that most folk would have missed. (I still don't know what it was)

SD
Judges are meant to know more than us, so they should have appreciated the increased difficulty in the moves, its seamless flow and the application and ability needed to put together previously learned moves in a different context to different music.

RP
Craig's actions summed up the underlying attitude of (some of) the judges begun by Len's opening remark.
It wouldn't have mattered how perfectly Jay had danced, he wasn't awarding a 10 for love nor money.
So he wasn't judging the dancing : so why was he there?

Think Darcy was nearly ok and for once Bruno was the most consistent. Don't think Len and Craig should now be there.
Don't know what their game was.
Totally spoiled a final and celebration of dance.
Loved reading all of your thoughts danceagogo, and the extract I have quoted sums up the three dances for me. Thanks for sharing.

Four of them sat on the panel
The public vote they tried to channel
Away from our true dancing pair
Until they got the Paddington Stare
To show he wasn't taking any flannel

The Grinch and the Grump
The Dancer and the Chump
The fudging 4 were not averse
To make their comments rude and terse
But t'was to no avail as their plan went bump
For DD

There once was a fudge called the Grinch
Who couldn't be nice in a pinch
He hums and he haws
While he sharpens his claws
He couldn't be trusted an inch

crh playing the part in panto. Don't know what year though.

Wow Hannah, who knew crh could be so inspirational
You are hereby awarded 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 for four stupendous limericks.

Rafferty, wow, another marvellous ode that sums up all the varying contributions to our thread.
I love "That's 'goodbye' to all sense of propriety" — trip to the gutter, anyone?
And I think "Jaygem" may be a new word. .
And I agree, roses all round for all posters.

Speedy, loved your rationale explaining why it was right not to repeat the Jive in the final.

Would be kinda nice if they kept the formula consistent (so long as it's not consistent with this year!). However, one thing that does become evident if you go back and read reviews of previous years is that this year's final was quite like a lot of the others:

(a) the final has very little to do with who becomes the ultimate winner - most years, everyone knew who they were going to vote for going in.

(b) it's very often not the judge's favourite who wins - Pammy would have won if the judges had had their way (although I woguldn't have minded personally - I thought she was fab if only she had kept her gob shut).

However, it may be the only time when a mediocre dancer has been preferred by the judges to the best dancer. .
Agreed with all you said TT, although the I've shortened it. Never tried the BIB!! (I have to admit though I did not want Pammy to win, although I thought she was excellent. Prob a mixture of her mouth and JJ!!)

Have them all saved for the 'Amnesty Week' homework so will post the links to them all :

Amnesty Week homework Idea is to put a few weeks together plus any Group dances and interviews for those weeks.
So can submit new homework if missed it first time, or late homework, or to add a bit more or say something different. All if people want to - it's a free thread

3 June Pairing Up, Week 1 to Week 4 - plus group dances

10 June Week 5 to to Week 9 Salsa - plus group dances

17 June Week 10 to Final and Red Button - plus any interviews from after the Final.

24 June, 1 July will re-post the Strictly Tour clips - courtesy of spreeathen - and any interviews from the Tour onward.
First BIB - thank goodness you're more organised than me Fred. Though as I know from compiling the theatre list it's much easier to keep track when you're the instigator of stuff.

And who knows, I might even manage to post a few reviews (thoughts!) myself.

When a poster called Hannah tries rhyme
Her words turn out simply sublime
By Jaybird inspired
Her odes are admired
And her wit is undoubtedly prime

She doesn't know how good she is ... but J knows

Plus she was 60, and nobody of that age group will ever win Strictly. I think Mark Ramprakash was the oldest winner at the grand old age of 39 !

Dancing together?

Thanks Whiffle (advice about DropBox) - I am very new to this posting things into the atmosphere and a bit apprehensive about it! One or two have said they like to see things on the thread so I shall proceed (with caution) asap. But I will have a go with the Excel file afterwards. In fact, I was thinking about posting a pie chart with the jobs allocations - I can do the chart, but how does it get onto DropBox?

eta BIB - snap, Strictly

Hannah - you cracked!

BigSis and I in hysterics over this one. I might even try to print it out as it so beautifully expresses how we often feel
No Isih-----I AM cracked

And yes that feeling can crop up often

I tried not to listen to or read anything Pammy said so as to leave my recollection of her from NTN intact. I have such fond memories of her from that. Present day Pammy wasn't too bad sometimes, but at others she was completely overbearing. However, for her age she was exceptional, and was very musical and lyrical. It was great to see someone of her age who could hold her own amongst much younger competitors. We're not talking 40 year old here, but 60+. I think those who criticised her sometimes forgot that.

When trying to analyse whether/why I like a certain performing artist, I often try to think of adjectives or nouns I would use to describe them. Not all the adjectives that could be used to describe their performance (not personal) qualities. Just one or two 'headlines'. Kind of like those psychiatric tests where you respond to something with the first word that springs to mind.

So we might get

Darcey - whipped cream
Angela Gheorgiu - likewise, whipped cream!
Domingo - rich coffee
Pavarotti - clear, bell, easy
Whitney Houston - hard
Madonna - thin, cold
Pammy - warm
J - lyrical, easy, free, athletic
Kellie - competent
Anita - wot, untrained? Enthusiastic. Awful feet.
Georgia - lively, sweet, wobbly

Sometimes the results can be interesting, even surprising. It becomes pretty easy to see who you like and why you are responding so negatively or positively towards someone. And why you might end up disagreeing violently with the fudges!

Thank you very much for this Twitter link, Speedy. It's exactly my type of thing! I think it's great that so many of us appreciate poetry and literature and it's great for extra discussion and cohesion here.

Also I've said before that I fully agreed with the decision not to dance the Jive in the final and I still support this 100%.

I can't think offhand of any clashes there, so could be! New word, too. And should this be a subdivision of dresser or would you like it to be separate?
I'd prefer a separate title please Isi.

Re BIB - me too Isih the things I have discovered how to do since posting on here. This week how to insert pics into a word document & use figures in a spreadsheet to create a pie chart! I guess you are using Excel to make your pie chart & you can upload the saved file to dropbox like your lovely moggie pics. Looking forward to seeing it - if it is number of jobs per person Korky will have the largest slice

I may be going completely bonkers - no, edit that .. I am completely bonkers but I may have misheard/misunderstood - but I'm pretty sure that when the producer was interviewed at the launch in Dublin he said that Jay had done the piano keys bit for some promo shots. Can anyone else remember?

Interesting TT. I shall have to try that.

Have to agree Pammy was amazing for her age - we share a birthday and I don't think I would have been just as competent.
Pretty close of course .
Wonder if I could be an unknown relation of the Big Yin.........

I think you're right. I'm pretty sure Jay tweeted it shortly after the announcement but then deleted it shortly after? Maybe he was told he wasn't supposed to?

I'm sure others will remember all accurately.

You do seem to have a lot of plumbing problems, Korky

I feel the excitement ratcheting up a notch
Hugs to B.

Ultimatum
The scarlet strobes throw light
Their ultimate dance tonight
No need for them to win

He stands alone, head bowed
The music starts so loud
And let the dance begin

A symbolic tug of war
Twixt bull and matador
With added spins and tricks

The shaping of his arms
Belying other charms
He ducks her flying kicks

His proud demeanour shows
He’s shrugged off all the blows
But will they pay the cost?

The breakout smile comes forth
The viewer votes head north
The ultimatum’s lost

When honour conquers all
And ultimatums fall
‘Tis then new life begins
