Off to do another voting session.”

Ah, Pearl and Dean...it is some time since you have been to the cinema then

Glad you enjoyed it, I can just picture you in the posh seat with your extra large coke and huge tub of popcorn.

I don't know whether you know but a new series is being made called Star Trek Discovery - not much is known about it yet but one word on the street is that it is some kind of prequel. Duncan Jones (David Bowie's son) is also being touted for directing an episode which would be really cool as he is an amazing director. It is due out early 2017 and you can sit in your own posh seats at home

At the end of the day a rabbit hole is a rabbit hole but we are obviously expanding our viewing.
And blimmin geo blocking doesnt help of course ”

You are right, geoblocking doesn't help, but I think all of the viewings are tapering off, not just Jay and Aliona's. In fact, the YouTube figures for the jive have gone up by over 110k since I last posted, which is still very good compared to the others - I did start working out all of the increases but got fed up!

Have work to catch up on, but will collate all the lovely poems tonight. We must be due publication of the next edition by now.

The format is the same as for the SCD Support Group final. You can vote 25 times and in a row and then get the message "Thank you, we have already counted your vote", If you wait approximately 1 minute you can then vote again. And repeat. Ad infinitum ... well, until the vote closes ”

Thanks for that tip - I couldn't tell as seemed to get to vote for a good while before I realised it wasn't moving - took a tea break and back on duty now

It was fun to see them finding their way...

It seemed to me that Aliona wasn't sure initially if Jay thought their age difference was a problem.
I also sensed that when Aliona said that she had no problem thinking he was sexy, Jay seemed to think 'I'm not going to have as much problem being sexy with you as you think!'.

Looking back though, Aliona didn't choreograph anything overtly sexy for Jay?
I think the Rumba with Matt was more so, than any of Jay's dances.

BIB Nah a bottle of water & bag of Mint Crumblies - the benefits of a capacious handbag The new series sounds good - hope it's on terrestrial TV. I loved Duncan Jones' Source Code

I don't think she needed to - understated, not 'look at me I'm being sexy' , naturally phwoar thud ( I LOVE that phrase- was it Cat09 who coined it? ) MUCH more attractive

It wouldn't have been hard for anyone would it she's gorgeous she doesn't even try and she just gives that vibe while others have to make horrid expressions yes my favourite word that actually scares more viewers than tantalising them

Phwoar thud! I love that too

I felt their dancing demonstrated deep attraction, including but not limited to 'sexiness'. Much, much more subtle.....and actually sexier. Or is that just me?

It wasn't the choreography that was sexy, in my view, it was the fact that they danced as one that made it so compelling. Not what they did, but what they were - two people so wonderfully in tune with each other - as Korky says - no words needed.

Lindy quite agree. It was love, as they said themselves.

Your Site is looking excellent Rosa.

As Deise said the poll allows you to vote 25 times BUT you can vote as many 25 times AGAIN and AGAIN if you leave about a minute in between each set of 25.
Keep the lad in the lead--vote as many times as possible.😀😀

Maybe TPTB think their viewers can't detect subtle?

One thing about subtle is that sometimes you do see more on re-viewing, but sometimes it's the subtlety of it that adds to the strength of it, in that it never gets tired.

Of course it was, and it's obvious to anyone with eyes. It's there in all their dances and interviews, and on the tour.

Hi All

Apologies for going back to earlier posts, but I've been thinking about the 'gurning' or overacting thing, and I have to confess I still don't understand why they do it. I know most of the dance I watch nowadays is contemporary (where you don't use much facial expression, you tell the story with your body), so I went back and looked at some classical ballet, to see if the exaggerated expressions used there looked as odd as the ballroom ones. In fact they don't, as a lot of the story originally was told in mime, and most of the time you can't see the face from the back of the theatre anyway.

Here's a clip from Giselle with Baryshnikov and Alessandra Ferri in gurn mode classical ballet style

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOAFsU2kWPw

You really don't need to overact to hold an audience. I saw Baryshnikov dance several times in his later career with the White Oak, and he could hold an audience enthralled with the slightest gesture, even without the gymnastics he could do in his youth. And he's really short, as well, which makes it harder to look impressive.

Here is a clip of him, in his late 50's, dancing to his own heartbeat (warning, if you don't like modern dance this will drive you crazy!). Its semi improvised, in front of a live audience, they are enthralled, and not a gurn in sight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAVwr-BwGCk

So why do the ballroom couples do it? It puts me off watching them, even a really elegant dancer like Aliaz. Maybe its just because that's what is expected, and they get told if they don't do it, they won't win. A very stylised form of dance. Jay didn't do it, and was all the more impressive to me because of that. He can hold an audience naturally, without artifice.

Incidentally, I didn't think the Strictly Prom worked on TV either, which is a shame as they did a dance one a couple of years ago, which was great. Mind you, the camera angle made all the dancers look short, and it was right up the girl's knickers when they were lifted....it could easily have been a lot better!

I find that rumba awkward - Matt Baker just too wholesome and the chemistry was missing from their partnership. Now with Jay, it was evident from the start they had a spark. All their romance dances were very believable whether tender or passionate, and I think Aliona didn't need to choreograph anything overtly / pretend sexual because she was dancing freely and with somebody who she cared a lot for, and who felt the same way towards her. I thought Aliona danced so differently last year - she was a changed woman in every sense with Jay because her heart was in it and it was her happiest Strictly ever.

Couldn't see the second clip, Agrion, but I adore Baryshnikov, and would love to see it.

Totally agree that you don't need to gurn to hold an audience - just unforced charisma and presence - both of which Jay has that in spades.

ETA seen it now!

Oh sorry - try copying an pasting this into a browser window

Михаил Барышников. Биение сердца. Mikhail Baryshnikov. The Heartbeat. Танец под стук своего сердца

or if all else fails, then try googling 'Baryshnikov dancing to heartbeat'.

I hope you like it - it isn't everyone's cup of tea. OH loved it and so do I!

I remember Matt Baker saying of Aliona, when they were discussing choreography, "She'll dance what I'm thinking", which shows that the dance itself can convey a lot. I think Jay also has the ability to express through the dance, so the facial expression isn't necessary.

And as BionicBard said, they danced as one, which is a rare thing to see on Strictly.
They were both tuned in to each other, and I think that was part of the reason they were so happy when training together as it must be rare to meet someone who has that connection.
