I'm not a fan of that slick genre of dance, and that's probably why I wasn't so keen on Aliona before last year's Strictly. What really peaks my interest is the depth of the dance, maybe that's why I'm such an AT nut.

I've just been reading through the Beeb blog after the semi-final - almost unanimously in praise of J&A, because they added that something that people hadn't experienced on Strictly before and will probably never see again.”

Just had a quick look as I haven't been on the BBC Strictly website for ages.

I notice they now have a section called "Strictly Champions", and when you click on it you get a further link to info on each winner, a little write up and statistics. For the more recent winners like Jay they have the videos for every dance they did , but for earlier winners there are still little clips.

Nice resource to have, with all of the dances in order in one place!

Hello, everyone! Hope your day is going great. I just woke up a few minutes ago and now we have a new president -officially-, so that's good for me

I have a quick question (sorry if it's been asked before, I'm on my phone and can't really see the forum that well from here). How many hours or days do every round of that poll lasts for? Does anyone know?

Sylvie Guillem's pretty sturdy too, and so tall for a ballerina. I love watching her, a bit edgy and different.”

Definitely not steroids. I've never heard of their use in this context. Coke seems to be the one most mentioned (as well as obvious emetics, cigarettes etc). Maybe it's to do with certain body proportions (Russians tend to be much less flexible in what is accepted because they are famed for their corps, which needs to be uniform) - certain proportions leg to torso and certain heights might allow for thinner frame while retaining sufficient muscle strength to support that frame. There must be some formulae out there!

Ballroom is clearly much more flexible in this regard. While the dancers are all slim, none of them have this terrible thinness. And they strive much more for the... um... female assets (whereas the same in ballet dancers can actually be in the way a bit). But then again, I don't think they have the same kind of muscle power (high kicks are one thing - raising the leg slowly and holding is a different level of tough, not to mention associated balance problems - ballroom dancers also don't have to do the same kind of jumps and lifts).

The comparisons are fascinating (to me, anyway!) Ballroom is an odd thing - but fascinating! I really hope that Strictly doesn't stray too far from its roots. I want to see the celebs learning this form of dance, not any old dancing.

I just replied to this and my post seems to have disappeared completely!

Has the Radio Times website homepage changed - I can't find the TV Champion link.

Thanks for telling about this - haven't been on the site lately either - will have a look tomorrow or at the weekend when i can devote time to enjoying it properly.
Voting going well so far but I guess we can't be complacent...
Like you Strictly was voting and to it up by 0.1% - pity they took away the number of votes - that was more fun but Hey! Ho! the figures are going the right way at present

That wouldn't cut the mustard
With the nasty Borewood Bustard
Who'd prefer his face to clock
All the schmaltz of a male Peacock!

Amen to that! But it would be nice to see the influence of J&A in terms of style, elegance, grace, sublety and the sheer joy of dancing - brought in too. Begone ghastly gurnfest!

Gorgeous dancing from Aliona - and she was younger then than J is now! It is definitely exhibition dancing though - and as Ano says, I always seem to concentrate on her and not on her partner. It was so different with J, the partnership and emotional connection was so important. A case of them achieving more together than either of them could separately...maybe ? In a way I hope not though, because I want J to continue to be brilliant in his solo career, starting with BIG

Nope. I don't think that will happen.

As much as we might wish to have another Series 13, I reckon TPTB will put their foot down like the proverbial toddler throwing a tantrum and insist it is done their way. Pah😠

You would need the quiet confidence and determination of a real team like Jaliona to support each other to achieve this I believe. Most people would be happy to go along with the PTB but Aliona, knowing it was her final year, really had nothing to lose which worked in their favour. It allowed them to be true to themselves, and I really think they were a one-off partnership.

Also clothes. Thank goodness we didn't get to see Jay in vile pink satin slit to the waist. Or a red adult-sized babygro like Anton wore for the jive one year.😂

Edit: Still giggling at Lola's 'Miss Karen's facial expressions' video. "Facials are an important part of any routine and you really can't expect to win a dance competition without them"😂😂😂😂

Is the soaring song of the lark
More glorious than J's voice? No, hark!
And I'd rather not be chased by a goose
But I wouldn't mind by J on the loose

BIB 1 Oh no. That has put a horrible picture in my mind. Not of Jay who was mighty fine. But Chris Hollins. Gawd where did that come from. Shudder.

BIB 2 I nearly bust a rib laughing at that video. 'Miss Karen'😂😂
