I thought I would have a break and just watch what happened to the vote. There was a strange regularity to the changes.
As BB said, when I vote the %age drops with monotonous regularity after 10 votes.
There are vote bots that can be programmed to do just that. For every vote applied to one pollster 10 can be applied to the opposition pollster for example.
If normal voting occurs one would expect to see irregular changes both up and down.

BB your point about a note stating Suspicious Activity was noted was interesting. I didn't see that.

Previously it seemed set to kick in at about 38 percent.”

This was the comment I was trying to find BB that I mentioned in my previous post

Outlander is a drama series on Amazon Prime. It is actually quite good and I enjoyed the first series but the second series is a touch dragging.

I think it is a stupid poll anyway as it isn't comparing like for like! However, I have done my bit and voted as much as I can.

Morning folks, just voted again but it's down to 36.49 now. Went down from 36.53 to 36.52 while I was voting, then dropped to 36.50 in my minute of being locked out.

I'm not really surprised at the "suspicious activity" message. This has happened before in a vote I took part in a couple of years ago, and someone contacted the Radio Times to complain, but they wouldn't acknowledge that anything was fishy with the poll. Funnily enough, the person that I was voting for then magically went up by 10 points in a matter of seconds, as though someone somewhere was adjusting something, but this was short lived. They are not interested in fair play, they are interested in people visiting their site.

Disappointing way to start the weekend, but there are a lot worse things happening in the world to get angry about. We didn't think J would get past this round, but I do wish it could have happened fairly.

Sorry to shout but PLEASE IF YOU GET THIS SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY ON THE POLL MESSAGE - PLEASE SCREEN SHOT IT AND TWEET IT TO RADIO TIMES
we can then all retweet it to them to shame them into doing something about the cheating?
BionicBard
30-07-2016
Interesting. It took nearly 40 votes before either total moved. I left it a few minutes, then J jumped up, so I carried on, and it very quickly dropped back so I stopped. There's definitely something going on.

Not on twitter.

Just looked at the public bit of RT twitter and there is talk of bots. The poll looks to be run by a company called immediate.

Just tried again. No movement on either for 27 votes, then dropped back one on J and went up one on aidan. Same pattern.

Immediate.co.uk seems to be who deals with complaints if you want to tweet

Wonder who Max's publicist is , I think Damien needs to take note!

I know the Sun isn't everyone's cup of tea, but Max has a prime position article in their music column today....

They won't do anything. The whole thing has been a huge con to get clicks on their website and advertising revenue. They want Poldark to win as its a BBC programme and is starting again soon.
Me, I preferred the original Poldark. I hate it when they remake a classic. If it ain't broke, don't fix it........take note Ghostbusters, Porridge, Total Recall et all

I will flounce big time if they ever remake Dirty Dancing, PrettyWoman, Ghost.....

Maybe Damien has noticed the irregularity on the voting for J. The voting figures seem similar for the other two semi finalists, with Damien's other interest in much the same position as J.

Oh yes, I agree that's probably the case. And they'd cast Gleb in DD....

Have voted , but it does look odd.
A dance off would be better

Of Lola loved, loved your post about horrible gurning. - brilliant!

Agree TT and others, hope Strictly doesn't go too far from its ballroom roots, but please not too much gurning.
Was watching a programme about Swan Lake - and the dancers do project emotion, but they don't gurn. J and A definitely projected emotion
Wonder why gurning developed in ballroom?
Agree too about ballroom dancers being slim, but not over thin.

Isih Thank you for your hard work on the Jobs for J and dictionary
Agree with Korky and Hannah to put your lists on here rather than Dropbox. Sometimes have trouble with Dropbox and I miss all sorts

Just a suggestion - if you can time it right, and it fits in with your RL, maybe start adding the lists at page 200, so it's easy to find in the future?
Only if it works for you though.
Managed to time posting everything to do with the Jaliona Review on page 100, but it was as much luck as judgement

Thanks BB and Korky and others for poems, rhymes, haiku and to DD for compilation

*Waves* to TsuntsuBird and congratulations to LazySusan

Night night all”

Sorry, must have missed you Tsuntsu - hello and have you got a rhyme in hand?

fatskia gets it right, doesn't he?

Good idea for page 200 - I will do the final polishing and be poised (assuming not still voting )

Interesting - is that the sort of public comment Max and especially Carrie likes, I wonder.

Pass the brain bleach, please. I have warmed to Gleb personally but ....
I suppose without all the TPTB carp he may want to dance properly, which I'm sure he can do.

First voting session this morning I managed to move it by 2/10 of a % at great cost to keyboard and mouse. I wonder if they work on 1000000%

ETA went straight back in and those 2/10 have been lost. do you sometimes get the feeling that you're hitting the wrong button?

Just tried again. Figures stayed the same on both while I voted. I stopped as soon as J's moved up one, then waited for 5 mins during which time nothing moved on either. On my first vote for J it dropped back two. I stopped and - guess what - nothing moved!

So whatever it is seems set to respond negatively to J votes as soon as his total moves up. Nice one, cheats, whoever you are...

To be honest BB, I think it's just that there are far more Poldark fans than Jay fans voting simultaneously. The only thing I was suspicious about was the two times I saw it drop 4% from 38% to 34% in the space of 1 one my clicks. Apart from those drops, the changes in percentage I have seen are 0.01% or 0.02% at a time, which is consistent with normal voting patterns. I'm sure thousands and thousands of votes have been cast
for both protagonists, so you'll only see a percentage change when you click if enough cumulative votes have been cast to increase the total vote by 0.01%. Hope that makes sense, I'm not very good at explaining it

Anyway, like Ano, I'm going to keep voting for J whenever I can.

What is interesting, or not as the case may be, is the difference in percentage between J and Poldark (they are voting for a fictional character really not the actor ). The votes should in theory be a closer than they are, when the poll showed the number of votes for a brief window, when I looked Alycia had about 50k votes and was miles ahead of anyone else, both J and Poldark had about 15k votes.

So the interesting poll will be the final, I think I have accepted the inevitable but I will keep voting to make it seem less of a whitewash, if Poldark triumphs over Alycia then it will just make a complete mockery of the whole thing.

Amyway that's my twopenny worth on the subject

You may be right, but that doesn't account for the periods where nothing moves. If there are a lot of people voting at the same time, surely the totals would edge forward and back all the time, instead of staying still even when a large number of votes have been posted, as several people have said. That is highly suspect in my view.

I see from the Radio Times twitter that they've been swamped with votes, and as the ratio of leader to runner up seems to be about the same on both polls, it does make me wonder, so I think you may well have a good point there, Lola.

Maybe it's my own experiences seeing this kind of thing at work that makes me take it all with a pinch of salt. And it's all so much more sophisticated these days! Remember Jeb Bush?

ETA I've just looked again and the position is virtually the same on both.

Regrettably won't be voting much today as have ended up with a sooper-dooper migraine. Yuk.

I'm pretty sure there is, or has been, a bot at work on the poll - I noticed the two sudden drops yesterday - but I think the main problem was that the Poldark tribe got into gear quicker than we did and built up a healthy lead at the start.

In the end, though, it's a very silly online poll that doesn't reflect at all on a person's true popularity as it depends entirely on monumental multi-voting by us all. It's even more meaningless when one side are predominantly voting for a fictional character. So, basically, not worth getting steamed up about. Preserve your sanity, peeps!

Jay, being Jay, will appreciate more the efforts people make on his behalf than he would winning the blinking poll

ETA: Searching on Jay on Twitter at the mo brings up some truly vomitworthy crap about the hairy Poldark. Eugh

There you go, doesn't mean a thing I agree, just interested to see how the hell they managed to pull it off. It doesn't bode well if voting in a general election were to go totally online...

Hypothetically, say there are 50 Aidan voters and 49 Jay voters voting simultaneously.

The 49 Jay voters neutralise 49 of the Aidan voters, vote-for-vote, so only 1 Aidan voter can make a difference to the score.

If the votes are already, say, 642000 for Aidan and 358000 for Jay (not an unreasonable assumpion based on Lola's figures for yesterday), then it will take 90 votes cast by that 1 Aidan voter to make a difference of 0.01%.

That voter (God damn him!) will be on his fourth voting round of "25 votes, pause for 1 minute" before the change occurs, if everything else remains the same.

Four voting rounds will take approximately 15 minutes, so in this very hypothetical case nothing changes for 15 minutes.

Sorry, I've gone all science nerdy , but I can see why the vote doesn't keep changing once a large number of votes have already been cast and there are lots of voters on each side.

Hope I've been able to explain it a bit better this time.
Off for some more voting.
