It is a classic DF article. Made me laugh.

I'm still getting my head around that!

I said way back at the start of this thread that Jay and Aliona had very compatible personalities. Despite that, Aliona is someone who understands all the normal things that work, yet she decided Jay should just stay as he is and that has worked!

I'm impressed by that and that there are so many people who 'get' Jay.

I think that says something good about the world, but don't want to imply that Jay is anything beyond a genuinely nice person.
Sometimes that is enough.”

Your last paragraph says it all, Fatskia.

Good Morning,

Just wondering if anyone has saved the links to any of our past reviews?

I'm collating all of mine into a Word document and find that I stupidly deleted my Green Paso one from my phone. I've tried searching DS but it doesn't come up with anything. I must be doing something wrong.

Many thanks. X

The press have an unwritten rule, that critical reviews are not made before the Press Night. There are many examples, however, of AMATEUR, ONLINE, OR DIGITAL REVIEWS THAT ARE NOT FLATTERING OR CRITICAL, APPEARING IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN BEFORE THE PRESS NIGHT THEREFORE AFFECTING THE SHOWS RECEPTION AND ULTIMATELY LEADING TO THEIR CANCELLATION OR FAILURE TO MAKE IT TO THE WEST END.
Speedy (and I, to some extent, plus others) are attempting to make clear to those who will seek to give negative or critical views, that this can and WILL affect BIG if this type of review appears online, especially here where it is a well known source for lazy hack journalism.
Now - I appreciate it is a free world and all that but.....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, all egos aside can we really, truly THINK before anyone posts critical stuff about these shows IN PUBLIC??

This is J's life, J's career, it's not a game of one-upmanship or of who has the last word. I couldn't care less about anything but J's career and J himself.

My conscience is clear - I would never post anything to damage him or his career, we agreed not to discuss on here in PUBLIC any of Jays relationships either real or speculative in case it damaged his career.
Is it really that difficult to think about this, seriously?”

Are you saying that when writing a review of the show, you can only say that it was marvellous? That everything was perfect. In my review the only slightly negative things I said were, I didn't like his hair. His costumes were a bit dull and he didn't have his " dancers " body back yet. I said that his partnership with Alioni was very special and that shined through. His dances were great considering that lack of rehearsal time. I said it was a great show. All of these comments were backed up by other people. There is no one-upmanship. No ego. I didn't seek to be critical or negative for any underlying purpose, just wrote a review of what I saw. I really think all of this is going way over the top!

Quite. I didn't interpret these reviews as ego trips, only honest opinions - which everyone surely is entitled to? Otherwise it's no longer a discussion - not sure what I'd call it...

Thinking about it, it shows J and A's sense in keeping their heads down since the Spring - or just showing little bits about their lives on separate continents.
The tabloids have lost interest in them.

A pity for us, as there was so little news, but worked out for the best

The BBC kept putting J and A in little trailers, so it meant people wouldn't forget about them.

Wonder when Pointless was filmed - think J can hop across the Atlantic 'under the radar'

J - and A - doing lots of TV now

I put the links to all the dance 'homeworks' are on Page 100 - so they're easy to find.

I didn't link to any of the wonderful Reviews as there were too many, but if you look under the relevant week, you might find your Green Paso Review in the thread on the days following?

Big at Plymouth - not to worry

There was a discussion on the Thread about this way back, when the dates were first announced, as we all understood it would be - in effect - 'off Broadway'.

It was appreciated back then by those who were going that they'd be careful - as it would be when any hiccups in the show would be sorted out.

Thinking of the future further ahead - if after a successful West End run, Big goes to Broadway?
Bet J would love that.

Trip over the Atlantic anyone?

Just a thought though. Can anyone remember Jim Dale from the Carry On films? He had a successful Broadway career, married an American lass and didn't come back.
He does read the Harry Potter books for the USA though.

Yes, I remember him. He just seemed to disappear - for some reason I thought all that original Carry On crew were now dead.

Every time I see a blast from the past mentioned, I have to go and have a look at their Wikipedia page!

Wow, he's 81 now and has been in showbiz for 60 years, and as Fred said has a long Broadway career behind him. Had an Oscar nomination for songwriting many years ago, too.

Edit : On the jive countdown, fewer than 3.5K views until it reaches 2million on YouTube!

Thank you for stating these things out. I for one and other people I guess had not idea that there is a preview week and the Premiere is after the preview week.
That said, we were wrong - when we assumed that Jay must have trained longer before the first show. As the Premiere was one week later. So when we were puzzled by why he didn't do more before the show starts it was because we just weren't aware that this was not the premiere.
So finally he did as he should and as the practice is.
He was perfect by the premiere which was yesterday.
Knowing that probably explains his words that he'll be greater in Big as he show progresses, not on the first preview date.
But I am sure he'll enjoy all the support from the people who will watch him on the first preview night in Dublin.
We all accept him as he is and wish him good luck, there are no enemies on this thread.

I respect and admire Jay for his funny, warm and intelligent personality as well as for his graceful dance moves. All rght, his face is very pleasant to look at too. Overall he's a very charismatic person. Had he been more extroverted type with these qualities he could have been a world leader.
Charisma is something that make you care about a person in a very inexplicable and unreasonable way.
I agree wiith fatskia here - when you think you can't understand his success, but when you watch him, he moves you to tears.
Other than that private life is private and everyone, even celebrities, has the right to keep it that way. I am a very private person myself and I don't have anything to hide, just don't feel like I want to share every aspect of my life even with the people I know, let alone people I don't know as celebrities are pushed to do. However I can see how this can make some people getting the wrong ideas.

Let's still be able to discuss as well as appreciate.

KC - 'He cut a dapper figure'. PMSL. He looked a right oik.
And although we might not be particularly keen on Jay's present hairdo it's a million times better than KC's which just looks weird and very unflattering.

I think the DF have the same stock articles that they use for countless couples - they just have to change the names! Which is why some of it is not that appropriate!

Wonder if J's hair style is cut that way so it flies outwards as he spins - like A's ponytail - though obviously not as much

Noticed in the Jive clip - thanks Arnostae - how much his hair moves.

Wonder if the new hair is because he doesn't have to wear the loose jacket and trousers now? (I never did like the JT outfit.)

On the other hand A's new clothes and long hair both move - now she doesn't need to be dressed like Uma Thurman.

I like Kevin and Karen, think they're both kind people, but do wish they'd have different styling sometimes.

Ah well, each to their own.

ETA agree Strictly Red, in fact sometimes think DF seems to have stock articles for all sorts, not just showbiz and celebrity articles

ETA2 hope you find it OK ahouch
- you might find the links on page 100 link to other links, but keep going

Thanks Fred. That's incredibly useful. I'll have a quick delve now. I don't think it should be too hard to find as I think I posted it very soon after the homework was posted, eager beaver that I was back then - it was my very first review.

BIB 1 That's a very interesting view, Amaluna. Who knows what lies ahead? From what I've seen of him, he's one of those people who genuinely cares about making the world a better place - he'll make his contribution in some way, I feel. But, as you say, is unlikely to make a noise about it.

BIB 2 Yes, there is an indefinable quality that draws people to him, and he brings that to his dancing.

Another thought about Jay's present hairdo.
Wonder if it's anything to do with how the producers want him to wear it for Big? So he's getting the general style of it now, and then could have it cut a bit/quite a bit shorter nearer the time.
A more 'uniform' hairdo prior to Big would help with any publicity he does.

Just found a publicity thing from the original announcement. Hair seems quite 'fluffy' on top, so perhaps he's trying to get that 'look' back without actually doing it before the start of Big.
