Little glimpse of Jay and panel dancing at the end with the girls finalists. Jay looked to be chatting to Kate again.

He did look very relaxed on the show and was more value than the others.

Feeling better today. I took a break from the brain-honey that is wall-to-wall Big Bang Theory and NCIS, and watched tonight's SCD, jotting down a few feelings about each dance. I wrote each before the first words were uttered by any of the judges, so some of the finer points may have been lost to me. Basically, I said......Did I like this: Yes or No?
First of all I'm delighted that the singers are, now, introduced individually, and the camera lingers on them for longer than a nano-second. Pity the camera is still missing key moves, or the angle is not right. Wouldn't it be nice if both the cameramen and their producerpeople were actually interested in the dances, or at least liked them enough to show them at their best? Instead they give us tumble-dryer-vision. Trying to get down with the cool kids, I suppose. Bless.
I'll put the rest in a Spoiler so people can sashay on by, if they wish.

Spoiler

Ore and Joanne. Cha-cha. Playing firefighters, to forgettable music. Very good. Good rhythm. Was it a good cha-cha? Dunno, but I enjoyed it.

Claudia and AJ. Waltz. West-Side Story theme. Very good. Elegant. Liked it very much.

Will and Karen. Jive. Rock Around The Clock. Bit disappointing, as I like Will. A bit "ploddy". Disconcerting pink belt arrangement: bobbing up and down, focussed attention on his waist: perhaps not his best feature. Dance flashed by in a trice.

Lesley and Anton. Cha-Cha. Quite impressed, really. Better than I was expecting, from both of them. I enjoyed it.

Greg and Natalie. Tango. Did well (at this stage), to remember the steps to this complicated routine. Sticky-out derriere, and bent legs spoilt the line, rather. Quite good, but a bit ploddy and pigeon-toed (at times).

Tameka and Gorka. Charleston. Competent. Slight slip, early on: covered well. Not electric. ?Nerves, caused it not to be OTT, which was a good thing, imo. OK.

Laura and Joe Varney. Waltz. To one of my favourite songs. Quite beautiful.

Melvin and Janette. Tango. Bit ploddy. Not electric. Tried hard.

Louise and Kevin. Viennese Waltz. To one of my favourite songs. Really liked this. Well done Kevin. Forget "Jive King" - that's a lost cause: go for this one instead.

Anastacia and Brendan. Under the circs., I thought this was good.

Ed Balls and Katya. Charleston. Loved, loved, loved this. He's so brave. My heart went out to him, as he's so very far from his comfort zone: and was still willing to give it a try. I hope he's given the chance to go a lot further in the competition. Rewound it, immediately, to watch it again.

Naga and Pasha. Cha-Cha. Little lacklustre, so bit of a disappointment. Needs to keep hips moving - not in fits and starts. Stood about a bit between moves. Hopefully nerves will release their grip by next week, so we can see what she can really do.

Judge Rinder and Oksana. American Smooth/Fxt. Really loved this. He's such a good dancer. One, of only two, that I immediately rewound, to watch again. Thought his reply to Craig, at the end, sufficed.

Daisy and Aljaz. Cha-Cha. She's good. I really enjoyed it. In fact I thought it was very good.

Danny and Oti. Viennese Waltz. Very good. Lovely to see Oti stretching herself. A promising pairing.

I don't think so. They never have and they always emphasise they are not required to. And to be honest, what's the point? It's not gonna change anything, but might embarrass contestants - even a year later.

Glad you're feeling better, Rafferty. Here goes my tuppence ha'penny - I can see we're thinking along the same lines in some, although not all of them.
Spoiler

Ore and Jwanne - he's still got some work to do. And needs to dial down the attitude.
Clowdia & AJ - better than I expected, but I wish he'd leave out gymnastics. She's supposed to be learning to dance now.
Will & Karen - pretty poor. Looked really lethargic and as though he lost his way a couple of times. I wasn't surprised - hadn't impressed me in rehearsal.
Greg & Natalie - all I could see was his bum! Sticking it out that much meant his posture was wrong. The knees are supposed to be bent in a Tango. If anything, at times I thought he came up too high. Good Tango face, though! I add a point because he's very handsome! I think they want him to be better than he really is.
Tameka & Gorka - clumsy, and she's not entertaining enough to make up for it. She doesn't seem to be supple enough to pull off tricks & Gorka, muscular though he is, can't lug her up.
Laura & Joe Varney - this woman is just unfairly beautiful. Her dancing doesn't quite live up to it yet, but I think Laura & Joe could be good partnership.
Melvin & Janette - bleh. Better than last week, but that's not saying much.
Louise & Kevin - very nice (and I'm not using that word in as critical a sense as I was before). I seem to remember something went a bit wrong at some point, but can't remember anymore. ETA: Just looked at it again and remembered - SHOULDERS!! They should be down! Watch your partner, Lou - Kevin has great shoulders. And what in the hell was she wearing?
Anastacia & Brendan - really fell apart
Ed & Katya - good on him!
Naga & Pasha - she was really stiff. I'm not getting good vibes from this partnership, which is a shame as Pash is looking really lovely this year, and Naga is stunningly beautiful.
Rinder & Oksana - great lifts (although not always smooth), the rest a little iffy. He has got to close his mouth!
Daisy & Aljaz - any dance with Aljaz in it automatically gets an extra point, but I thought this dance was a little cautious. I suspect Aljaz has decided to take the chance on them getting to the later stages and is concentrating on technique as, in the long run, that is the best way to go and produces better dances later.
Danny & Oti - thought the bagography was unnecessary. A bit skippy. I thought there was too much rise and fall on the pivots. Lovely hand shaping out of hold. I assume he'll get better. Loved the counterbalance - very daring!

And Len decided, after 3 evenings full of illegal lifts, that he would suddenly tell off Aljaz. I don't mind him pointing out an illegal lift, but he should be consistent. What he should have done is that after the last dance, made a general comment that he would not allow illegal lifts in future.

BIB. Altho' I know bent knees in the Tango are to be applauded, TT, I felt that a combination of sticky-out derriere, and bent legs, rather spoilt the line.....Reminiscent of Max Wall, perhaps. And I think we can both agree, that he would have brought little to the Tango-Table.

*dives for cover as Max Wall fans come swarming over the hill, waving "Max Wall...Tango champion" banners*

ETA. Hope you don't mind, I cropped your post: for clarity and brevity. Thought your report was great.

Morning all.

I watched Strictly last night and emerged unscathed, emotionally. There were some I liked, some OK and some awful. But it is still only week 2. I feel already though that we are into dodgy marks from the judges. But then again, what do I know? I am no expert. I like your review RafferyCat [glad you are feeling better].
TT - agree regarding "nice" Louise & her outfits. I don't know what to make of her dresses. She obviously has a say in what she wears. It appears that she is only comfortable in something that does not show her figure in any way? I feel a bit mean writing this, as the poor girl has done nothing to offend me, but I don't believe I can support her. I think it is the "Kevin" factor. I can't warm to him [or the CIifton's in general].
My general impressions of the show - I remember the props more than most the dances. They were everywhere! There were very few dances -if any?- when the partnerships got down to it and just danced. Also I didn't really like a lot of the music, with the exception of Danny & Oti's VW.
Drizzle: Hope you liked the show. Even after all my moans, I still enjoyed, it in my new, detached way.

StrictlyRed: Thanks for the advise regarding the browser. I will try later on today.

Wonder who will go tonight? I am trying to stay away from spoilers this year.

Edit :forgot Jay!! Too early! I can't bring myself to watch the X-Factor prog. but I saw the pictures posted. Think he is looking good. No haircut yet. I did wonder for a bit if he was going to keep the longer hair for BIG. I am so used to the Tom Hanks look in the film. But then I remembered the publicity still for the show. So, I expect he will get it cut. Shame [in my opinion]. Loved his long hair at the beginning of Strictly.

I was out at an 80s party last night so only caught bits and bobs as I was getting ready.

I loved Danny and Oti's dance, but I can't warm to them at all. 😬 It's just a bit too polished, which is always forgiven in male celebs but attacked in women (Denise, Natalie).

I haven't updated the strictly stats thread but the views are on a par with last year really from 10k down to 3k

Like Jay Danny is the only celeb to lead on a Ballroom (but ballroom are the top 3 this week so it was a fire week for Latin)

Danny is leading with 10k so he isn't storming away with views like Jay did on every good week.

Also I'd be ok with Louise winning this year.

It will get the Clifton win in the bag and we can all move on, he's clearly getting to the final and even I'd feel bad if he missed out on another.

Good morning Mo.
Yes I did enjoy the show thankyou, it's a great entertainment show, and one for all the family, where we all have different views and opinions.
In week one or two my OH says the same thing every year that there are too many couples ,and he says they are all a bit samey, and looses interest half way through.
I agree it does get more interesting, as more people get knocked out.
But I like to watch the progress of the contestants, week by week ,and see. How they have improved.
There are obviously some very good dancers already,
I may be on my own on this, but for me the most interesting couple so far are AJ and Cloudia, unlike Jay and Aliona who will always be my champions, they are a bit Quirky,
and do the unexpected.
I thought their waltz was lovely, and AJ shows her off well,
As far as I could see, there were no acrobatics, only the splits, and it flowed beautifully,
Unfortunately CRH ,seems to have chosen them to pick on , but it may go in their favour
As the public may get on their side like they did with Jay,and vote for them,
I didn't. Think I would get interested in the show after Jay,
But like someone else said he is unique, and there rearly is no comparison.
so I shall just enjoy the fabulous entertainment every week,
and hope the best dancer wins.

I've got a theory about Kevin's partners' outfits. Remember Kellie last year. I was convinced War Drobe hated her. So my theory is it's because it's Kevin - his partnrs get eyebrow-raising tratment by War Drobe.

Yeah decided to check some of the routines on YouTube as I do, Danny and Oti's VW was ok but I didn't really feel anything after it was as you say too polished and sometimes it didn't look right, not taking anything away from the pro herself but I really didn't like the choreography so that didn't help I saw Louise's routine can't remember what it was a vw or a waltz? But I can not help but thinking every time I look at Kevin he reminds me of Lens pet I know that's such a weird thing to think but it's true he gives off a long lost son vibe that's probably why I can not connect with them as a couple.

I do think War Drobe must have had some vendetta with Kellie - never seen such a bunch of unflattering / unsuitable outfits.

But it's pretty well know that the design of Louise's outfits are to comply with her own wishes. Honestly, if she doesn't want to embarrass her sons (or whatever it is), she would do far better by refusing to participate in Kevin's kick at the end of the intro music.

Thanks jayfan for the updates on J's tv appearance last night - I did hop over for a tiny bit & thought he looked lovely but couldn't stay awake even to watch him

Glad you're feeling better Rafferty

Thanks for all the thoughts & musings on last nights show

Here are a few of mine

Firstly have War Drobe obtained a truck load of skirt netting ( I think it's know as crin???) at bargain basement prices? There was an awful lot on show – Daisy & Lesley last week then all the Ballroom ladies this week

I wonder how much say the pro's have in the use of props & 'theming' of the dances. Not sure how keen I am on a preponderance of 'in this dance x & y will be playing the role of...'* a la Melvin/Janette & Ore/Joanne. Maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned remembering when props were saved for Props Week & used to enhance the dances rather than detract from them. It must also make it that much harder for the complete non-dancers as they have enough to remember.

Also been thinking about the intro VT's. I'm not too keen on them personally. Maybe in the lead up to the first show there could be an ITT special series. Each half hour programme could focus on two couples & we could get all the getting to know the celebs, this is what I do in my day job , meet my family stuff out of the way before settling into the series.

As to the dances last night I really liked Natalie & Greg – no props or faffing & thought he did a good job for a first ballroom. Maybe the trousers accentuated the posture issue but Darcy didn't seem to mind!

Think Katya is doing a good job with Ed & I was surprised at his good timing in the Charleston. However, I was disappointed with Will. He seemed to lack bounce &again like, Louise last week, seemed a bit pedestrian. Also seemed to have a bit of a problem with his trousers slipping down.

Felt sorry for Anastacia. The choreo changes look to have been very last minute. Hopefully she will get through to next week & the injury is not too serious.

I enjoyed Claudia more than*I was expecting to & thought she & AJ did a good job

To the 'front runners'. Louise & Kevin don't want to say nice – how about unremarkable?. Really good to see Oti so enjoying dancing with Danny but I haven't warmed to him yet.

And finally Antons' trousers.*

Sorry if I've whiffle-waffled on a bit.

Lol figured how long it would take for someone to create a thread on whose better Jay or Danny? I was just sitting back and patiently waiting.. no one can compare to Jay his waltz with Aliona still remains one of my favourite dances, from the simple setting and colours to the choreography it all made sense I remember feeling out of breath once the routine had finished I think that's when people started to realise he is an extraordinary dancer..
