So he'll go no more a-boozing
So late into the night Though the spirit be still as willing And the moon be still as bright For the dance wears out the shoe And rehearsing wears out the man And the heart must pause to breathe So on beer there is a ban Though the night was made for drinking And the day returns too soon Yet he'll go no more a-quaffing By the light of the moon He's been a stout toper for many a year And is mighty well versed in the swigging of beer But the head on those shoulders is steady and true So he'll keep down the sluicing to just one or two! (with a respectful nod to a well known swigging song) |

Good morning (just) all Thank you all for pomes and stuff (and appreciation of doggerel.) Not quite sure what's happened to the quotes here, but I think it still makes as much sense as I usually do. And somewhere I wanted to quote Toad and Rafferty on the ITT issue but it seems to have gone missing. Totally agree on how it can enhance/affect the view we have of people. Even though the questions are so formulaic the WAY people reply/react is often more revealing than what they say. Quote:
I think our man's in very safe hands......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuIxUiVfuos Great voice! She used to do voiceovers for Spitting Image, great mimic too! I think her voice will suit the music for BIG very well indeed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAM8...A95E4&index=10 I think this link should work, the song is 'Stop Time'
Quote:
Chapeau, Isih! Let's hope Jay's SpokesDad is reading this too... BIB agree

Haven't looked at DVO's Twitter, but had a quick look at Jessica Martin's, and she sounds very pleased and excited - already has the BIG poster as her header.
Quote:
Just had an email from Ticketmaster (through whom I bought my Big tickets for Dublin) telling me about DVO's departure due to unforeseen circumstances. Sounds a bit of a daft thing to say, but it reads a bit cross. Personally not sorry to see her replaced with Jessica but the nosey part of me would like to know why!

Come on Muse! Are you there? That I'm trying so hard to write verse. When I've asked in the past For your help, you've been fast To inspire. But not now. It's perverse.
I'm twiddling my pen.....just a blank, but then Is that a hint of an ode, I espy? Just wait 'til I get My butterfly net, Oh!.....It's gone! How I wish I could fly. I'd gather all thoughts that are floating free, And put them all in my drawer. I'd then have a clue When I looked at a few, As I spread them all out on the floor. Shall I use this one?....Or this? I wouldn't want to lose The best one. But which one to choose? So many, who would guess? That pursuit of success Would be this hard.......but good, nonetheless. I think I'll give up, for now, at least, And sleep on it, you never know. I might dream of the ONE Who has brought us such fun, And then write in his warm afterglow. Quote:
Thank you for the fabulous poetry Korky, Isih, Rafferty & TT You've all inspired me to have a go as it's NPD.
It's National Poetry Day So I thought I would play With words to describe How we all feel inside When a dancer named Jay Sweeps us up and away With his glorious lines And extentions divine We're transported with joy By this graceful Man/Boy And thrill at the chance Of watching him dance. Quote:
My contribution
Courtesy of Pam Ayres You have to dance while you are able, Do the can-can on the table, Grab each chance that flashes past, For life goes by so deadly fast. ETA Origin unknown Dancing with feet is one thing But dancing with the heart is another. Quote:
Evening everyone.
Great poetry today - congratulations to all: Rafferty, TT, Korky, Whiffle as Isih Some very interesting news about DVO. I don't know any of the workings of theatre, but had there been contracts signed? Whatever the reason, I don't suppose we will find out any time soon. Well, as it is NPD today, here is my own tawdry effort [it has been torture trying to do this - not likely to ever be repeated]. Apologies too - I tried to word something around Jay, but my mind wouldn't co-operate. And down I shall go to the wood to play word games. Others said that if I could, to weave my thoughts as on a loom. A tapestry of words to bloom. They say that if I should, words will fall to the pen Once done, to do again So down I go to the wood. to play word games. Quote:
BIBs I'm the same, Korky. Not on Twitter, or any social media, either: never have been. But I can't help wondering, do you think we might be missing out on things? I mean, we're a bit dependent on others bringing titbits back to the nest, aren't we? Mind you, the thought of putting a corset on my words, just gives me a headache.
![]() Oh, wait a minute. I've just remembered. It's often you bringing the titbits back. Oops. Perhaps I should have said, that it's me who's a bit dependent on others, in this regard. I would like to say, that I'm very grateful to all who bring goodies to the thread, garnered from all social media, YouTube etc. You've all brought so much pleasure to Twitter-shy folk, such as I. It's most generous of you all, to share like that. ![]() Quote:

I only quoted someone else's poetry - the only congrats due are to Ted Hughes, Poet Laureate (the most that can be said for me is that I remembered it and cut out certain sections for Our Leona - it's one of my favourite poems)!
![]() It was more than I did, too. ![]() Edit : I see that Korky has also posted some more, so more thanks .👏 |

Good morning (just) all
Thanks for these links, BB - she does look very promising. I listened to a couple of the other tracks as well, I hope 'I want to go home' is still in there cos it's made for Jay! And merci, and that would be interesting but he would have to tweet acceptance and I'm not a twittererer But perhaps not the 'no nay never bit' ![]() BIB 1 Isn't it just? I really, really hope they keep it in. I don't think it was included in the touring production, and I can't understand why. It's such a beautiful song. For anyone who wants to listen, here's a link (you can skip the ad) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8-8xxxtr0c BIB 2 Voila! That's why I left it out. But I love singing that song full belt - great craic, even if people cover their ears and make for the exits when I start ! I'm not on twitter either, maybe he'll pick it up from here. |

Well its been a long time since I was on here and I have been away for the last three and a half weeks so have missed the beginning of the series. I have looked back at some of your posts and I notice that there has been a bit of a 'to do' about Jay v Danny.
I watched last weeks show on catch up and my first thought about Danny (without reading anything on the forum at all) was that he had had previous dance experience and wondered if he would get the 'ringer' tag like Jay. I know I am biased but Jay is much more likeable than Danny. The latter to me seems a bit 'I love myself'. Jay was very understated and did it his way. Funnily enough I said to my friend that he would be compared with Jay. I'm glad I didn't get involved in the Jay v Danny spat as I don't think I could held back. Do I take it that the Jay hater from last year (name of a plant mostly in Scotland) is back again!!! |

Possibly because they are so different that less hysterical discussions often veer from "who's better" into "there's room the world for both". But Louise is really gonna have to work to get rid of that "nice" tag! I really think she needs to be sexy rather than technical (well both, obviously, but emphasis on letting go). I think she has it in her - whether she'll ever use it is another question. |

Unsurprisingly, hatahs coming out of the woodwork, but interestingly, a lot more reasonable comment than I had expected (I think that in order to keep it that way, it's incumbent on J supporters to avoid leaping to J's defence as though every word in favour of Danny is an attack on J).

OK, in Real Life I am well known for poor timekeeping, so I hope nobody minds me stepping in a day late for NPD to share a poem that has helped me more often and in more ways than I care to remember.
It's by Susan Coolidge (she of "What Katy Did" ), and quite well known, but may be a bit sentimental or old fashioned for some - step away now if it's not for you. Anyway, as I said, I've returned to it a lot for various reasons over the years, especially the first and last lines.Every day is a fresh beginning Listen my soul to the glad refrain And, spite of old sorrows And older sinning Troubles forecasted And possible pain Take heart with the day and begin again. |

Hi Nelliek - many thanks for the theatre update - I'm actually going on Monday 7th, not on the Saturday - not through wishing to be antisocial but have another engagement on the Saturday (oooh, anyone would think I was a right little socialite

National Poetry Day yesterday was great fun and very moving and I sincerely hope that everyone will continue to write. It's very therapeutic to "let it all out" too. |

I know how much Deise Days loved poetry, and was so encouraging to us all in our efforts. How she would have loved today, on the thread. Mayhap she is lurking. I hope so. It would be great to have her back, posting as before. I'm not clear as to why she left, in the first place. All I know is: she left a big hole, where once she stood.
