Week 3 - well, obviously, Jive beats anything.
I never thought J was best every week. Just that J at his best was on another level to anybody else at their best. And even in the less good weeks (aside from the QS - that routine was a nightmare once he lost it - not a couple of oopsies, but loads - he did much better in the Quickathon), there were always elements of beauty which the others didn't have.”
BIB. Oh, TT. I have a feeling of
deja vu coming on. I can remember rearing up, in mildly inappropriate high dudgeon, when you used the word, 'nightmare', at the time. I thought that Jay's QuickStep was a delight, and I only noticed one slight oopsie: when he slid a bit, at the end of a run. I thought it was exuberant, and very clever. I marvelled at all the intricate footwork: learned so quickly, and executed so beautifully. It was miles and miles ahead of any of the other contestants, imo. In fact way beyond their reach, ever (and that goes for this lot, too, imo). I came away on a high. So I was really disappointed to learn, that the dance which had given me such joy, had, in fact been riddled with mistakes: the majority of which I hadn't noticed. Really came down to earth with a bump. Then I marvelled at Jay's ingenuity in being able to cover so brilliantly: to carry on, and bring the dance to a satisfactory end. I then concluded that the video of his QuickStep should be included in a Masterclass "What to do When Things Go Wrong". I have a special place in my heart for Jay's QuickStep: it tried, so very hard, to be good.
ETA. Correction. I didn't join the thread until towards the end of Feb. So when I said "....'nightmare'
at the time......", I should have made clear, that I was referring to the post-SCD reviews of each of Jay's dances, we were conducting.

Funny you should pick up on J&A's quickstep. Perfection is in the eye of the beholder, and those few oopsies mattered not a jot to me. It was so full of joy, every time they danced it. My favourite was the Quackathon, it started with that sweet fist bump, then they were flying so high he forgot he had to land, and A flew on with him. That's magic.
I like Ed's exhuberance too. He seemed to be the only one enjoying himself last night!”
Thank you for your kind words, BB.
I loved Jay's Quickathon, too, BB. Any ghosts he may have had, regarding his original QS, were finally laid to rest, I think. He seemed to be really enjoying himself, and I felt swept along with him. Only thing is: it was far too short: I would have liked it to have gone on, for much longer.

I suppose it's the difference between watching every step a dancer makes to pick up anything that differs from the prescribed norm, or being taken up by the whole experience; the joy, the artistry, the soul and all those other things that make watching Jay so very special.”
Yes, yes, thrice yes.
