Lola the cat

I’m a grown-up, I’ve got 2 kids, a mortgage, a cat and a shed - that makes me a fully paid grown-up doesn’t it? So why did I shout at the telly last night, honest I know they can’t hear me. I have watched SCD since the first series and I have got used to the manipulation, the favouritism, the over and under-scoring but last night it was taken to a new level. I am in serious danger of tracking Len down and pickling his walnuts myself.

Why Len, just why? I honestly thought at the beginning of the week that they would try to compare Danny and J’s QS but I admit that by Friday it was obvious they were working on an Ore jive being better. I was expecting the 10’s, in a way they didn’t bother me so much as the comment “Move over Jay”. J won the 2015 glitterball why compare the dances? I didn’t see any of the other dancers being compared. Are we now to assume that next week Greg will be compared to Mark Ramprakash, or Louise to Emma Bunton? Is this one of the tweeks that were talked about? Are the fudges suddenly going to whip out an a 15 paddle as another tweek as the scores have nowhere to go? And while I’m on a rant, Craig’s comment “you better be watching Danny” or whatever it was, if I was one of the other contestants I’d have been pretty peed off, has it already been decided that it is a straight contest between Danny and Ore?

I would like to force the fudges to watch both J’s and Ore’s jive on slo-mo and then try to justify trying to make Ore’s the superior one. The out-of-sync parts, the bit in the middle that I’m pretty sure he goes completely wrong in, the lack of pointed feet, the stompy flicks and kicks, the lack of dancing as a couple...do I need to go on Len?

I suppose the only saving grace is that from the comments I’ve seen on twitter, facebook, newspapers etc the vast majority of the public agree that whilst Ore was good it was nowhere in the same universe as J’s. The fudges and Jwanne may have to accept that they have actually harmed Ore by overmarking and over praising and Jwanne didn’t have to put the “little homages” in, they just were screaming “look we can do it better”, they were not necessary.

Anyway rant over, today is another day and the sun has just come out. But I still might make some bread later, knocking hell out of a lump of dough is very cathartic.

The manipulations and contrivances have started early! How about a quick whip round to get Len to b*gger off to DWTS and stay there permanently last nights comment about " move over Jay " and the 10 for Ore was Len's warped revenge for Jay beating his favourites K&K in the final last year. It's funny how Len's attention to detail about footwork conveniently lapses when he wants it to like Ore's feet in the jive last night and a few of K&K dances last year. Len never did like Jay much did he? can't wait for him to go

Well said👍👋👋👋 the only reason I didn't jump up and scream and throw the OH at the telly ( only joking ) was I was babysitting the little grand kids I had to restrain myself. Not sure I want to keep watching SCD anymore this year. Oh yeh can you imagine how big Ore and Joanne's head are going to be on ITT this week, probably have to widen the door openings at the studio. I am sure Ore wil go into his Uruah Heep " I' m ever so 'umble ' mode and cry AGAIN

I wonder which dance Jay only had 12 hours rehearsal for? I am guessing VW and charleston week?

Oh that's a lovely interview.

So Aliona is moving to Florida, how lovely for her. I'm so happy for her and Vincent.

Interesting that Jay says the hippy commune of last year isn't happening this year. It really came across last year that he was very close to his fellow contestants. (Notably Kellie, Katie, Jeremy, DOD, Helen and Anita)and they all supported each other.

It does seem more cutthroat this year. TBH the whole thing feels moreDWTS this year.

Maybe that's why I'm most enjoying the likes of Judge Rinder, Lesley and Ed, because they remind me of what Strictly used to be.

Totally agree, Lola & Defer.
Len was totally out of order, last night
I understand the judges have a roll to play, to a certain extent, but to play one off against another is wrong.
I am pleased Aliona left and took no part in this years show, she and J are better off out of it., as for Len DWTS can keep him.

OMG this post is brilliant thank you for posting what I and probably most people are thinking, I had a look at Ore's routine unfortunately to me it looked like he was trying to kick off spiders that were crawling up his legs.. the kicks had no let's say meaning to them they were just there you know like Joanne said if we want to somehow beat Jays jive I need to stick a couple of random kicks in between the routine just for the sake of it because in her books more is good.. the routine to me was all over the place it really had no connection why compare when Jays jive is just on another level of brilliance. Justifies my thoughts on the judges loosing the plot.. this coming week of ITT we will see a mini trophy being handed to Ore just to increase his false belief

Observation last night from son who was forced to watch part of Strictly, it was dinner time!

He might share J's wardrode but sadly has 2 left feet - "Why do some of the dances have music that seems to suit the dance but others it doesn't seem to go at all. Surely, if you are doing a latin dance the music should have a latiny vibe to it. Also, the band should never, never be allowed to sing an Amy Winehouse song and that dance to it should never, never be allowed to be seen again in public, it was so not Amy!". It all has a different feel this year. I can't put my finger on it - but it's like everything I didn't like about the end of last year has crept into the beginning of this. So, am trying to be positive as I always liked Strictly and don't want it to be ruined for me. Things that encouraged me:
- nice to see everyone giving good dances very good receptions. Wasn't keen on Ore's but his effort should have been rewarded and was
- nice to see some of the partnerships developing. Felt more warmth between AJ and Cloudia, Anton and Leslie (ey?) in particular
- finding Rob R and Oksana ever more bizarre in their interaction in a weirdly fascinating sort of way?

That looks so complicated! Should think it's really hard work preparing for a musical.
Looks as if there'll be a fair bit of dancing in Big , as well as some good songs

Ah, I didn't either - tape Strictly now and fast forward the VTs unless about training
(Though to be fair, there does seem to be a little bit more training this year in the VTs - and a little bit in Claudia's 'coming up' links)

Agree - lovely interview. Last year had such a nice atmosphere between the contestants - and they still seem pretty close from bits we see.

Wonder if this year's seems more cutthroat as nearly everyone has a dance or performing background - it distorts the competition?
Last year there were some, but they either had something else to cope with too or didn't 'take' to learning ballroom and Latin dancing?
Maybe also to do with the mix of personalities too?

So that's the story of the safety pins - none of us thought it was A's emergency measure.

Reading what Jay wrote under the Instagram photo just reminded me why I found him so fascinating and different from the usual celebs. He has a really interesting take on things. As I have said before, I started to become obsessed when he said 'fruition' and 'disparity'....

No mortgage = smug, add grandchildren and by and large, me too. All I can say is that it's a great tribute to Jay, even if it makes some choke with chagrin, that the comparisons are happening. Fred is right - people might take another look and decide to investigate further - get advertising, people!

That Sunday Post article (presumably timed for the Keep Dancing tour?) is interesting - a couple of very uncontroversial bits of gossip which were nonetheless informative (safety pins - I've still not seen them, refuse to concentrate enough) I like Jay's comment about them all hanging on to each other last year as against the competiveness of this year.

Sabbatical - I think you've hit the nail on the head about things carrying over from last year. I am determined not to let it spoil my enjoyment of the show and recite 'don't compare OMMM' several times before during and after the dances.

Off now, not to bake bread but probably dig over the potager, much to the delight of the cat who sees it as a giant litter tray for his delectation

Alright! Last rehearsal for BIG at Dance attic finished. It has been an amazing few weeks, in the same way learning to box must be amazing... and you can't help but feel like you might have been punched in the face many many times. Anyway, let's take a deep breath, get ready for round two, and smile that you're in the ring. 💪🏼🤘🏻👍🏼

We had a ringside seat
To see this warrior fight
And it all came together
On the final night.
Pound for honest pound
He rolled with the punches
Took ill words on the chin
As we heard confirmed our hunches.
He withstood many a body blow
But never let down his guard
Was never on the ropes
And never with others sparred.
He danced so sublimely
With millions in his corner
So many true supporters
But the four gave him no quarter.
The gloves were never off
He never took a dive
Or threw in the towel
And each week he survived.
When boxed into a corner
He was never down and out
Always an honest contender
Going into each bout.
Hit by the old one-two
Punched below the belt
He danced against the odds
Playing the hand he was dealt.
Just saved by the bell
Overcoming doubt
This fighter is a winner
In fact... knockout!

The BBC seem to be distancing themselves a bit from Len's 'move over Jay' remark by putting the two into the same boat :

https://twitter.com/bbcstrictly/stat...11163446108161

and Ore is keeping himself in my good books by sounding a bit stunned at the comparison:

Sweet article and interesting that Aliona and Vincent are in the process of buying a house in Florida.
I wonder if Aliona might become a Judge on DWTS?

Aliona and Len on the same team?
