We had a ringside seat
To see this warrior fight
And it all came together
On the final night.
Pound for honest pound
He rolled with the punches
Took ill words on the chin
As we heard confirmed our hunches.
He withstood many a body blow
But never let down his guard
Was never on the ropes
And never with others sparred.
He danced so sublimely
With millions in his corner
So many true supporters
But the four gave him no quarter.
The gloves were never off
He never took a dive
Or threw in the towel
And each week he survived.
When boxed into a corner
He was never down and out
Always an honest contender
Going into each bout.
Hit by the old one-two
Punched below the belt
He danced against the odds
Playing the hand he was dealt.
Just saved by the bell
Overcoming doubt
This fighter is a winner
In fact... knockout!”

Well, said, Korky - I'll second that!

Len's stuff is mostly scripted beforehand.
It was an opportunity to big up this year's Show by suggesting something was better than last year.
Not the best choice of dances to compare if they wanted it to ring true, but then, a lot of people would have to go look at Jay's Jive to see the truth.

Great Jive by Ore and Joanne though! I was pleasantly surprised how good it was.

very good jive by ore...but why didn't they give jay tens for HIS far more memorable, iconic one last year? My guess is ore's will be nowhere near as 'you tubed' as jay's!

A lot of people have been going back to look at Jay's jive - the you-tube hits are up by about 25,000 overnight!

Bruno has just tweeted well done to Ore for the jive.
Genuine question- Does anyone remember any of the judges tweeting Jay and Aliona last year?

I remember the band tweeting to say they had never seen anything like it, not sure about the judges.

Hello my sparkly darlings (shameless borrowing from Guardian blog there) - I have been lured back to the thread by last night's jaw dropping shenanigans. Annoyed by Len's 'move over Jay' comment at first, but on reflection, as Lola and Blondsicle pointed out, never in the history of Strictly as far as I'm aware has a previous contestant been 'carried forward' for purposes of comparison as Jay has. I agree with Isih that is a real tribute to the impact he had. I've watched both jives back and my opinion for what it's worth is that Bruno was spot on in his comments last year - good dancers (Ore) dance on the beat; great dancers (Jay) dance in the beat. Not all dancers are that musical, Darcy saw it too, but Craig sees only technique and performance and as for Len GOK what he sees, but I'm with Dfer on Len, he can bugger off now as far as I'm concerned. Is it true or only a malicious rumour I've picked up from somewhere that Jo Clifton is his god-daughter? And of course he didn't like Aliona one bit as she dared to disagree with him. Not that I'm suggesting either of those things influenced his 10 score............

PS - OTT, I last posted after being hauled out of floodwater by police, followed 2 days later by bathroom flooding. After which I walked out of RL and technology and headed for R & R in beautiful north Norfolk countryside which weather forecast said would be dry and fine........ yeah - rained virtually whole time. Still love Norfolk though - big skies, open spaces, empty beaches. So am back refreshed for the fray and looking forward to keeping up with thread again.

Hmmm... 🤔 I deduce that Mr. McG. is rather more admired and loved than these also-rans and very soon to be the eponymous hero of Part 7 of an A.T.

Your words, the mods' ears, Korks.

Interestingly, at this stage last year, we only had 750 replies - but we've made up for it since.

There is a lot of support for Danny and Oti on another thread I think but striking how little interest there is overall.
I wonder if more people are using FB or Twitter?

Last night as he put his smile in a glass

And set it on the night stand

I wonder if Len dreamt of dances past

In that glittery Strictly land?

Where once there was a Perfect Jive

That had never been seen before

Cool flicks and spins that came alive

And thrilled us to the core

The judges raved and praised with glee

The phenomenon that is Jay

But as it was "only in week three"

They threw the 'tens' away

This year Len's wishing Ore could be

The one to claim Jay's Crown

How difficult can it really be

To knock McGuiness down?

They tried so hard for all last year

To put him in his place

With snide remarks and jibes about

His lack of gurning face

But it didn't work, the viewers' voice

Was loud and clear in the vote

Jay was the victor, the outright choice

And Len's ambitions smote!

So remember this, Len, before you go

To claim your pension plan

Though Ore may have danced quite well

Those 'tens' went to the wrong man….

HoHoHo! I think that's an exercise in damage limitation, Len having very neatly shot himself and Joanne and Ore in all six feet, and then run back over them with a steamroller, and doused the remains in acid.

To lose one favourite to ill-judged remarks is one thing, but to lose another favourite to ill-judged remarks looks like carelessness........

(with apologies to Monkseal and Mr Wilde)
