Here's my take on it. The Radio Times interview was very telling. I think Aliona as well as the interviewer were both slightly surprised to see his embarrassment over the ' sexy bits ' comment. Everyone probably assumed he'd sown his wild oats and been around the block a few times with more girls than he could count. Par for the course with boy bands surely ? I think the opposite was true for Jay. He was a very young, well brought up Catholic boy, who grew up with strong women and respected them. The brash, overtly sexual cougars and love struck young girls that likely offered themselves up on a plate during TW years, probably didn't do much for him emotionally or physically. He enjoyed all the rest of it of course - the heavy drinking and japes with the lads because he's so comfortable in male company as we've seen. Maybe there were a handful of girls that were more than platonic, but I would guess not very many, and probably they were just date nights rather than relationships - leading him to discover more about himself and who he really was.

I suspect Jay's obvious happiness and love for Aliona was because at 25, he'd unexpectedly met his real soulmate, and she quickly gained his admiration. Here he was ( this dance - loving man ) 6 days a week with a beautiful dancer, who he could let his guard down and be friends with, and trust completely. She's immensely hard working and talented, tactile and loving, warm and funny, with a cheeky SOH, family orientated and respectful of herself and reputation. So like him in many ways - no wonder they got on so well, and continue to get on, doing things outside of Strictly, like KD tour, Sports Relief and singing together on the music video ( that was lovely ! ) - fingers crossed for many more joint efforts / outings for as long as possible

BIB I'm fairly certain that he is in a relationship and has been for a few years, which is known about in his closest circle of friends and family but not common knowledge. You don't have to be Einstein to work out who it is, but it's easy to fit the pieces together if people have the mind to.”

Very interesting and perceptive post, Seaside Lady. It's so important to be able to have the time to develop a relationship, and a nightmare to be doing it in the public eye, particularly if you're hit by a thunderbolt, as I think J was when he met A.

I'm so glad they're still able to spend time together, I think she's been brilliant for him.

For me, what you have highlighted epitomises the difference between Harry and Jay as Aliona's two winning partners.
Harry was safer and more technically correct in his ballroom posture.
But Jay danced from his soul, and as you say, BB, delivered verve and style in spades.

Jelly, loved your story about Jellymum's wise words and memories of your dad.
TT, even though I'm not a Whovian, I enjoyed the dance summary phrases you picked.
Korky, another corker from you on your Jayinfatuation

I know it's not to everyone's taste, but I do enjoy poetic J&A appreciation much more than speculative discussion about personal relationships. While I enjoyed much of the talk about WIJ last night, I'd hate the thread to descend to the level of the "yellow press".

It may be time to remember that this thread is "in the public eye" and speculation about anyone's personal relationships, however "perceptive" some might find it, is just that.

Perhaps we should respect the privacy that Jay holds so dear and drop the matter.

ETA DD ...like minds.

Actually, looking back on it, I've just noticed how many of the lines I picked are actually tragic ones (not obvious unless you know your Who). Maybe my subconscious was seeing the poignancy in a lot of the dances.

I enjoyed the Doctor Who references and surprised myself by recognising a lot of them. Would you mind sharing where they all come from?

I was out last night so didn't join in with the much of the chat yesterday. I so agree, some of the posts here last night were actually mentioning names, and as you can see from my post I was very careful not to, for the very reason you mention. And I chose my words very carefully as well. This is a public forum, and many on here get very personal and post some cringeworthy stuff

No, of course it was nowhere near perfect in competition terms, but the content and spirit of the dance was incredible compared with others at a similar stage. What wasn't necessary was the spread of gloom that greeted J&A when they came to the judging - nobody died, they got to the finish, didn't fall over and didn't freeze up. In between there were glimpses of the brilliance to come.

The obsession with 'performance' hadn't really started then, but what J gave was a brilliant performance flying over the floor with some fiendish footwork and having the chutzpah to keep dancing like a pro when things went awry. The music was appallingly unsuited to the dance, and look what an incredible performance they gave a few weeks later with more suitable music and a floor full of other dancers!

You can take the safe route and dance every step to perfection with a rictus grin, or you can set the floor alight with verve and style, and a few flaws. I know which I prefer.”

Thanks BB. Still laughing at the thought of a rictus grin😂
Verve and style -----oh yes

Difficult but really good choreography

Ditto DD. I find speculation about relationships hits my "cringeometer" with a resounding gong. Jay's a grown, personable, attractive young man and he should be able to find himself a soulmate without banner headlines announcing it. I'm not getting at anyone here, and I don't believe anyone has crossed the line, just putting my view out there.

Regardless of whether names have been made explicit or hinted at, we should be mindful that this is J's private life that is being discussed and speculated upon in a public forum.

Agree with this.
A little bit of gossip and speculation is inevitable and even though I am sure all comments are very kindly meant and are inspired by affection for Jay (and Aliona), I think there is line we need to be careful not to cross.

agree about poetic appreciation. Each to their own when it comes to showing their J&A appreciation. The WIJ things last night though.....

I can think of no personal posts of cringe worthiness. Maybe I missed them but I doubt it.

Ooh, I don't always watch, but I think I recognise a couple!

Is the salsa one Christopher Eccleston?

The QS is Amy Pond talking about Matt Smith, I believe.

Good game, I may try to work out a few more!

Edit : The AS is River Song.

Would like J and A to do in Keep Dancing

Waltz, Jive, Tango, Paso, a slightly different AS, a slightly different FT, Salsa, a different QS.
Rumba, as many Freedance or Show Dances as they like, a slightly different CCC, a Samba

... oh dear, I can see a problem here”

Here's the homework re-posted.

I'm a little bit late, not as good as StrictlyRed and Whiffle

Here's Jeremy Vine on J's Jive - forgot to post it first time - it's very nice

Can't believe
I didn't include a Charleston and a 'developed' AT in the Keep Dancing dances.
What about a Lindy Hop too?
And how about some tap dancing?

ETA Thank you for all the Reviews - long and short and poems and words and Dr Who and everything
and reminiscing about parents dancing ( my parents were good dancers too)

jnb what a lovely vet

ETA again
Think we all on here wish J the best in his career and in his private life.

(Can remember a discussion on here way back in the New Year about different people having a different 'wriggle' point - Beesknee's phrase again).

Sorry non-Whovians. Please skip. In order:

Spoiler

1. Blink (and thereafter, recurring joke)
2. Time of the Doctor (all together now *weep*)
3. The Big Bang
4. Forest of the Dead (still can't watch that scene without crying my eyes out)
5. Matt Smith catchphrase (first used on his regeneration - The Eleventh Hour)
6. Raggedy Man - recurring (Amy Pond re Matt Smith's doctor)
7. Bastardisation of "bow ties are cool" - Matt Smith catchphrase
8. Hello Sweetie - recurring (River Song)
9. The Name of the Doctor (let's get weepy again). "I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry" is recurring - mainly DT)
10. The Parting of the Ways (snuffle)
11. The Doctor's Wife (now crying uncontrollably)
12. The Big Bang (pass the hankies).
13. The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe
14. And we're back to Time of the Doctor again! (where's that kleenex?)
15. Day of the Moon (reaches for empty box of tissues)

Edit: Decided to put in a spoiler for anyone who wants to try to work it out themselves

I chose not to speak up earlier as it seemed that the discussion had come to a close. If it appears that I singled your post out it is simply because yours had reprised the matter. My post was an attempt to draw a line and was not intended to make you feel 'singled out' SeasideLady.

Sorry to chop your post but wanted to say how grateful I am that you collate the various elements we need to review and relive the SCD experience.

Jeremy Vine's comments were lovely and gave us some idea, I think, just what an impact That Jive had in the studio...never mind what we saw on our TVs

I'm afraid there's no point in me putting together a KD wish list together...it would be endless...*whispers* not the QS...not because of my earlier comments but because I don't see the venues having a large enough stage for Jay to expend his joy and exuberance sufficently.

I so agree with this. I really enjoyed their Argentine Tango, but looking back, I think it was a bit too soon for Jay. The "intimacy", for want of a better word, was not quite there yet. By Rumba week, it definitely was. There is a Argentine Tango on UT: Santa Maria by the Gotan Project - I am not going to put up the link, as I think many on here know it already, and I think it is unfair to compare the two. I believe J & A were going for that style, but the AT came a couple of weeks too early in their partnership. They would kill it now.
When it was announced that J&A would be doing the AT, I looked at a lot of AT's on UT and many don't have a Goucho in sight - [just saying CRH]. I thought they both danced it as well as they could at that stage in the competition and both looked wonderful [it was my favourite look for Jay].
I would love to see them do a Waltz, Tango, Salsa, definitely. Yes, and a couple of new dances, but then, I am greedy

I wasn't aware that the discussion had come to a close - I don't post through the early hours of the morning and have been at work away from DS all day. Just wanted to add my thoughts to everyone else's once I'd caught up with the thread, that's all.

It's interesting that some subjects can be discussed at great length with no limits, and others must be vetted and brought to a close / have a line drawn under them by the thread police, because they don't like it or think it's suitable. There are plenty of posts on here which I don't like because they are cringeworthy, repetitive, nothing to do with Jaliona and often downright self - promoting, but I wouldn't ever get above myself and tell those who post them to stop doing it ! I just skim right over those because it's a public forum - you can post anything you like as long as it's within the T & C, and as far as I know everyone's posts on here do fall within those T & C. Some of us have been on here a hell of lot longer than others, and we do know how to behave and haven't broken any rules
