![]() Dear Hannah, I've something to say Won't you please write a poem about Jay His hair is so curly And his chest is so burly That I'm often led somewhat astray I'll post the red paso poem when I've finished it, and the 4th edition of the collection on Thursday evening. ![]() Maybe this will give you inspiration ![]() http://66.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mc...41fao1_500.png (and they're not original.) OopsIt's giving me a headache just trying to do the first two lines. Nope I think I'll leave it to you guys. When I said about "publishing" I wasn't being pushy DD about the 4th edition or your Red Paso poem. As I said kudos to you for doing great poems. I thought you may be in two minds about your Stricter Strictly when you said you took a general extract from it. I was just thinking it would be lovely to see the full poem that " ran away " with you. If you felt comfortable with that. |

Thanks again to Fred for the links to the Final homework.
Very interesting to read others' takes on the Final and it shows we all appreciate the same thing a bit differently - which is good. That's why we always learn something from each review. ![]() How I saw the final dance and winning. It had been an unexpectedly sour final, because I felt that there was a bit too much of ‘making it look like a close contest’ by the judges. Jay had danced the Quickstep a lot better than the first time, but it wasn’t as good as I expected for a Final. When Bruno suggested Aliona had been at fault she initially responded that that wasn’t the case, then when he kept suggesting that, changed her reply. That is something different from Aliona this Series. She has tended to be honest even when it didn’t go down well. I guess the ‘Fake it till you make it!’ guidance means that she has changed – at least temporarily. It is good advice for Jay - he also is someone who values honesty a lot, and in Showbiz, that isn’t something that is valued as it should be. Jay tends to be a bit too critical of himself, so judges himself too harshly. IMO he needs to improve his standard setting for judging himself. I believe you are your own best judge – if you are honest with yourself and using the right standards to judge yourself against. The criticism of the Showdance in particular rankled with me, because of the ‘There are no rules!’ rule. Aliona had been upset by the criticism and was blaming herself – and Jay impressed me a lot by supporting her so well. So that was my frame of mind when we got to the Paso – their final dance on Strictly, and I didn’t know it was to be Aliona’s final dance as a pro on Strictly. I still thought they were likely to win, but Kelly and Kevin had produced a very impressive Showdance and Georgia and Giovanni had danced consistently well. That, combined with me thinking Jaliona’s Showdance wasn’t going to be a big vote winner – despite being a very good dance – and Jaliona seemingly downcast a bit by how the Final was progressing, meant I was trepidatious as their final dance was announced. Jay looks nervous at first, then they smile at each other and touch foreheads. What cheered me up a lot was their VT, with Jay saying ‘Bingo!’ at being paired with Aliona, and Aliona saying ’I just knew that we would really get on!’ It reminded me of my first impression of Jay (from Page 1 of the thread) ‘From what I have read so far, Jay seems to have a very compatible personality with Aliona's. He may have to cut down on the beer and become more of an athlete, but I think he will enjoy it - as long as he can enjoy hard work too. ![]() Jay said ‘And very quickly we got really close – because we were so similar.’ So I was feeling a lot better going into the Paso. Red lighting – good! The start – Jay’s arm shaping is better! AAAARGH! The singer is murdering the song! As the song progressed, his singing improved, but it was a shame the band didn’t give them the music they deserved for their final dance. The Paso is a choreographical masterpiece – so much content interwoven to match the music perfectly and snaking around every inch of the floor. Jay’s shaping is better and there are no mistakes – other than smiling! – I can understand that though, and am happy to see it! The triumphant finger in the final spin and the chest taps add to the final flourish. The last part was beautifully fluid and seamless this time - a very fitting final dance. The judges are OK with their comments and scores – though Craig keeps playing his One Note Samba about facial expression, and got a shake of the head from Aliona and ‘the stare’ from Jay. Darcey is the one who said something extra and Jay was moved by that. I appreciated Janette cheering when Jay got 10’s, and she gave Aliona a little arm rub. Then to the announcement, and they did seem to be genuinely surprised to win – which was cool. Georgina and Giovanni and particularly Kelly and Kevin, took it very well, with fulsome applause. And I have no issues with Joanne and Karen being a bit upset while applauding the winners, as it is only to be expected. Kevin has made 3 finals without winning, and they performed very strongly in this Final. The Red Button interview was one of the best ever IMO. It was a good Final with 4 worthy pairings and a good dance standard. And the camaraderie between the celebs was still evident. Jay quoting Kellie telling him that he squeezed every last bit out of the Paso. Jay and Aliona spoke very well and Jay was a wonderful mixture of humble, thankful and both he and Aliona showed what a team they had been. Aliona said that winning twice was down to her dance partners and repeated again, that Jay was her favourite dance partner. Aliona has been exceptional at generating chemistry on the dance floor with her partners, but with Jay, I don’t think she has to work at it as much. They seem to be on the same wavelength on so many things, and dancing is an expression of what’s inside you – so when they dance, there is a unity, a synergy, and a symbiosis. I think if Jay could improve his level even more and they dance together more, that will be even more evident. It reminds me a bit of Flavia and Vincent. They were so good dancing together, that there was something so special created that they both wanted to keep it alive after they separated. Jay and Aliona didn’t need to win for themselves, but people felt their relationship and were moved by their dancing – and that is special and rare – so they made them the winners. That sort of rewrote the Strictly textbook – The Jaliona Addendum. The judges’ comments? The only one worth quoting is Bruno. “I don’t know if he knows how good he is – but I know.”

Wow, what a literary smorgasbord we've been treated to tonight! I'm sure J &A will be delighted to read all of your brilliant contributions - entertaining and touching, all at once. Take a very well-earned bow, all of you.
Lola - I agree about Jay taking an interest in the staging - for me, it was the Showdance that stood out - so very cool and elegant, as befits a class act. I really must get a grip - I just can't bring myself to watch the final without the blood pressure hitting the stratosphere... |

Thank you everyone for the thanks for sorting the homework. I love doing it - a labour of love
.General consensus seems to have been to have Amnesty Weeks over 3 weeks. Thought to do 'Pairing Up' plus Weeks 1 - 4 to begin with - as that seemed the first part of Jaliona's journey. As some weren't on the thread back then, thought to re-post just a few Weeks to begin with? So people have the chance to do Reviews, or look back overall, or do another if they want. ![]() I'll re-post the links to the original 'homework' posts for the Pairing Up, the first 4 weeks, and any Group dances that involved J and A. Just as a taster, how about this? I thought I'd watched every ITT, but can't remember this one. J isn't in it a lot, but who would have thought J was channelling Peter A? Seriously, he says so. ![]() https://youtu.be/7-kdiAgFJyU Great Reviews Cat09Tales and Fatskia. Thank you, so very interesting - loved, loved reading them. ![]() ETA Gosh ahouch, my post over-lapped with yours! What emotion you recreate! Lola think you might have a point - remember J's musical theatre course included the 'theory' of theatre, and as you say, he must have learnt a lot with TW.Love all the Odes and Poems and Ditties - thank you all ![]() OT Sad news about Carla Lane - loved the Liver Birds, Butterflies and Bread jayfan Have you chosen a gif? Trouble is there are so many Jaliona moments to choose from. Glad your eyes are doing well celloplayer StrictlyRed reached 10,000😊 - in Part 6 no less - cake! Have some cake! Do you realise hannah, that the DS Elves have split the last 2 Threads after YOUR post - what have you been doing spreeathen have a good time in Barcelona Agree with your points on the reviews this week.Wow. I didn't realise about Carla. Such a shame. Do you think the DS Elves are trying to tell me something. Maybe that I talk too much.😂😂😂😂 I'm ever so quiet really

So I'm about to post my non-review of part three of the final. Firstly, apologies as it's too long. Secondly, if you're not a fan of creative writing then please skip, thirdly I've used a bit of artistic licence so I'm not intimating that anything is true (it might also be a bit c**p!).
Finally, I'm not sure I'll get a chance to do my more usual review this week. But in case I don't I just want to say that the thing that makes the dying moments of the final so moving Is that it is not a movie. They are not acting. It's 'real' life. Two real people sharing this magical romantic moment. Two people unashamed to show their honest feelings for one another, regardless of how it may be interpreted. I have experienced a very strong friendship with a member of the opposite sex in the past and it was a bit like a courtship, nothing physical, but very very different to any of my other friendships. We are still in touch 15 years later and I love him and miss him dearly. I feel so privileged to have witnessed something so very special and genuine as J&A's relationship. I hope they will be friends for many years to come. No need to apologise about a long review - I am probably the one most guilty of rambling on and using 10 words instead of 2. At the rate this week is going it will be Thursday or Friday before I post but will do before my walking break. DD saw new statue in sunny Kilkenny today (dedicated to our local sport ) and thought of you! As OT I won't post the pic ![]() Nite all and hope those of you who had rain today will enjoy a lovely sunny day tomorrow ![]() ETA - I am a numpty Ahouch - I just found your review (saw Freds post and realised you had posted it...problem with playing catch up on DS..I miss things ) As late (and a bit tired) I am going to read it first thing in the morning and very much looking forward to that.Nite all again |

The first beat of the music starts and they prowl towards each other. 'Give me a song for the broken hearted'. They leap into action. Every move, every shape, bigger and better than before. They squeeze every last inch of drama, intensity and drive out of their bodies and put it into this dance. He is this masculine Matador, leaping, leading, overpowering the bull.
But as they move around each other, connected by the touch of each other's face, they smile. The matador is gone. A strong, jubilant man takes his place. In that split second, and in recognition of the lyrics, 'I did it my way' they see only each other. The audience and camera's have disappeared, all that remains is their understanding of what they've accomplished together, all communicated by one simple, honest, joyful smile. He takes her hand and sweeps her around the floor one handed. The other raised to the heavens in triumph. He releases her hand and her spin across the floor comes to a halt. He crosses the floor and crouches beside her. Pats his heart twice and draws her in by her neck, 'It's my life!'. Truth...Beauty...Grace...Love. THE END Quote:
Ahouch your review has blown me away. I love every single word of it, the creative bits and the reality bits.
But I especially love the bit I've quoted above, and the words in bold font. You have a real flair for writing. ![]() Re that smile at 'Frankie said I did it my way' - am I the only person who sits there grinning like a loon at that bit?

No, you're not, but then I'm a bit of a rebel too - but only ever with a cause. I so admired the whole spirit in which the Paso was danced and I think we're smiling at this as much as J's dancing. 💕

I get the distinct impression that a lot of us on here are rebels are one sort or another. Perhaps one of the reasons we like J is that he is his own person and yes I smile everytime I see his face beam with unadulterated joy at "Frankie says I did it my way".
And I'm with all of you. I can't help but grin like an idiot at that part too.

Scene 1
Backstage our two protagonists reflect on the Showdance and the judges comments. She says she's sorry - he stops her before she gets a chance to complete her sentence. 'I meant what I said I wouldn't change a single step. If that was our last dance then it was the perfect way to end'. Tears begin to fall and they fall into a close embrace. They are interrupted by a knock on the dressing room door. Louise enters holding two gift bags. They open them to find some miniature whiskeys amongst the usual toiletries. 'Dutch courage?' He asks her. 'Dutch courage' she replies as they simultaneously unscrew the caps. One, two, three, and they knock them back straight from their miniature bottles. Scene 2 Four spotlights. Silence decends. Glassy eyed our pair brace themselves expecting to hear their names... They can't concentrate on the words being spoken. All they can do is cling to each other for stability. Tess says those three dreaded words, 'Katie & Anton' Hold on, not Jay & Aliona? They get to dance again? But Katie & Anton, how do they feel? They search them out to offer their commiserations. No time to linger they get ready to take on their last ever Strictly dance. The VT runs, they get into position. The lights dim to a hazy red with two spotlights focussing on our heroes. The excitement and expectation in the room is palpable. They may be at opposite sides of the dance floor but they are connected by an invisible string. Just us. On our own terms. This is it. The last 3 months boils down to this 1 and a half minutes. The highs and lows, the intense friendship borne out of a lost soul and a driven woman. Here, now. 'It's my life'. Dun Dun. Their final dance is complete. In the background the audience erupts into spontaneous applause. He holds her face in his hands, an expression of bittersweet relief across his face. They linger that way drinking in the moment, faces millimetres apart. Finally they move. 'I've got you girl, come here' he says giddily as he helps her up and carries her across the floor in an all consuming hug. They stand side by side as Tess says something about that being their last dance. But her voice fades into the distance as they touch forehands and close their eyes. Happy. Sad. They wave and acknowledge their friends and loved ones in the audience and Clauditorium. The judges are just muffled voices now. They both smile, nod and laugh in the right places, but it matters not one jot. He kisses her hand as they bound up the stairs to the Clauditorium. They are welcomed into the bosom of their friends, Claudia reminds him of the nervous man he was at the beginning; 'I'm heavily tranquillised, just kidding!' he quips. The scores are delivered. They are almost perfect. They do not care. Now all that's left to do is watch the competition, and wait. They spend the remaining minutes savouring every second together and enjoying time with their new found friends. The imminent result is superfluous. They know it's over for them. Over for them in more than one way. No more weekly routine: New dance, Training, ITT, costume fittings, rehearsals, pub visit with family. After tonight they go their separate ways... Scene 3 Three spotlights. 6 people await their fate. 'The results are in. The votes have been counted and verified I can now announce that the champions of strictly come dancing 2015 are...Jay & Aliona' Fireworks go off. Hands cover their faces in shock, there's a hint of embarrassment in their expressions. She is wide eyed, he in contrast closes his in an attempt to stem the tears. He bows his head and leans into the crook of her neck, moving into an enormous hug. He lifts and spins her around. He puts her down and they smile at each other as if to say 'Is this really happening?'. They are coaxed front of stage whilst the runners up are being interviewed. Still hugging, becoming ever emotional. It's now their turn to talk. She is still shaking her head in disbelief. He is choked up, unsure if he'll get the words out. But he must try. 'I feel spaced out and really weird. You deserve it so much, you really do,' he says to Aliona, she attempts to tell him, 'no, you deserve it, we did it together,' but she barely gets a chance before he continues. 'Uh,uh.' They embrace again. 'I just think it's been one of the most special things that I've ever done and with the most special person. And I think if anyone that helped us to get here and then enjoyed what we were doing. I'm really happy that you liked it, because it's the best thing I've ever done'. His voice breaks at the end of the sentence. He is done. She listens to this sincere speech struggling to hold back honest sobs. This is her last strictly. Her tears hold this secret. She is unable to speak, she nods instead. He knows. 'I have great pleasure in presenting Jay & Aliona with the Glitterball trophy' He makes her hold the globe first. In his mind, it is hers. This amazing woman has transformed him. Pulled him out of the wilderness, given him self-belief, a way forward, a future. When he does touch it, it is with one hand, the other is stretched out to hold her by the shoulder. They look across at each other, the trophy held between them. They lean in for a brief chaste kiss. As the music starts their friends run to congratulate them. They are overwhelmed. The tears flow freely. They lift him in the air, he is embarrassed and self-conscious, he wipes his lip. He can't take the attention any longer so he asks them to put him down so he can include everyone in a group hug. The group surround him, arms in the air, jumping and clapping to the music. Golden confetti rain down as Irene Cara's 'What a feeling' plays in the background. They find each other in the crowd. And suddenly everything else fades into the background once more. The people around disappear, the camera revolves around them in slo-motion. Just J & A. They did it. The perfect team. Soul mates. They kiss. The screen fades to black. The following words sparkle through the darkness... Truth...Beauty...Grace...Love. THE END As DD said you have a wonderful flair with words. Bravo! Brave! Bravo! Fab-U-Lois review to finish your Strictly contributions...but not the end of your compositions on Jaliona and other subjects. Loved it! |

Been furrowing in the burrow this morning, and I don't know if this has been posted before. It's a pretty poorly balanced recording, but it does show what a lovely voice Jay has. Looks like it was about seven years ago, maybe when he'd just left MADD?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqfvLD5jMlk He sounds a bit tentative - maybe holding back to allow the girl to shine, she has a lovely voice too. |

When I saw Jay appear, vibrating with fear,
My heart went out to him like a brother. I hoped he could dance So I gave him a chance, And 'tis true, he turned out like no other. He danced like an angel, precise, concise, The content, complex and breath-taking. His elegant styles With grace which beguiles, Most surely a star in the making. As each week went by, I thought he would cry At the mean things some judges would utter. But some were exempt From their words of contempt, "That's unfair!" was all I could splutter. Week followed week, and the future looked bleak For our boy. Could they not see his brilliance? But Jay soldiered on When all hope was gone, And triumphed through skill and resilience. His dances, all told, were a joy to behold. And his love of performance was clear. So I can't understand Why each dance was panned, Or damned with faint praise. Was that fear? Yes, obviously, it was so plain to see, Jay's fan-base was steadily rising. There was no competition, So they made it their mission To undermine him, I'm surmising. Could they not rejoice? They'd just made this choice For their programme, a dancer supreme. Instead of promoting They tried to skew voting, And could easily have ruined the dream. But they reckoned without Jalionistas' clout, We were angry, and rose with one voice. "Take your hands off our boy He's nobody's toy!", We shouted, "we've all made our choice!". And vote we did, and again, and again, Fair play was under attack. We stood up fully, To take on the bully And won. Though Jay didn't crack. Throughout the shows, he went with the blows, Never once letting dignity slide. He chose not to do battle With lesser dancers' prattle, When all they could do was deride. Though some weeks they would raise occasional praise, It was often dismissive and curt. They would oft overlook, And ignore what it took Jay to shine at his dance. That must hurt. Selfishly, I just wanted to see All Jay's dances. The win? Doesn't matter. But I just could not see Either KK or GG With Glitterball handed on platter! Some might say that Jay won by his charm Or his looks, but I am certain of this. That he won with ease Based on pure expertise, And jolly hard work. Couldn't miss. Although charm and looks did no harm, I agree. And triumph over fear was compelling. Would he've gone as far Without such a star As Aliona to teach him? 'S no telling. But the magical pairing was set in stone, And for that we were all truly blessed. That we all got to see Something special that we Could see clearly stood out from the rest. Now the future looks bright, and it only seems right That Jay chooses what destiny brings. Keep Dancing is first, Then BIG, when rehearsed Will be great as he acts, dances and sings. After that, who knows? With Jay, he grows, Of that, we can be assured. He can take his time, And wait to chime With his best fit. His future's secured. Good Luck, my friend, if I may, use such a familiar term. I feel I've travelled beside you, far and wide, but still stood firm. Together with hordes of Jalionistas, we carried you over the line. A well-deserved, and hard-earned win. And now your chance to shine. But shining's what you've done before, if Strictly's any guide. So continue in the same way, Jay, and just enjoy the ride. |

Switch off the light, close the door, Strictly's ended but the future holds more.... ![]() Whiffle - soixante-neuf questions! Could go either way.... Must have taken ages to compile that lot, well done! |

I'd better get these in before the thread runs away again! Apologies for cutting things, space saving since there are so many readable contributions , fairly soon I may be taking up far too much room with the jobs etc (up to J at present). Quote:
There once was a young lad from Newark
A prankster who enjoyed a good lark He sang in a band Wanted all over the land Until dance lit a heavenly spark. That's it Korky, DD, Lola et al. This is my ONE and ONLY bit of a ditty. Quote:

You could say it's been in gestation since the start of Strictly 2015
![]() It did have more about J&A in it, but I decided to make it more general and then write something positive about the red paso (work in progress). The only programme with higher ratings than SCD is Bake Off. In that, the criticism is aimed at what the contestants have done, not about their personalities, and is thus constructive. It makes for pleasant viewing. Producers take note. The week Len told Peter he could improve his posture by moving the position of his hand on Jeanette's back, I was sat there thinking "Now why the heck couldn't all the criticism be delivered like that." Grrrrrr ![]() Anyway, let's have a Jaygif to cheer us all up. ![]() http://66.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9...n7too1_250.gif Frustration very well expressed but I was expecting a few expletives deleted! I thought I might try to link all the poetry volumes to the Poets Laureate jobs description - how long are they valid on DropBox? Quote:
Totally agree with DD - brilliant review, ahouch.
Re that smile at 'Frankie said I did it my way' - am I the only person who sits there grinning like a loon at that bit? ![]() Quote:
I'm not a rebel but I'd like to be one! - I admire J for doing his own thing - something I've always struggled with!
And I'm with all of you. I can't help but grin like an idiot at that part too. ![]() Quote:
Been furrowing in the burrow this morning, and I don't know if this has been posted before. It's a pretty poorly balanced recording, but it does show what a lovely voice Jay has. Looks like it was about seven years ago, maybe when he'd just left MADD?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqfvLD5jMlk He sounds a bit tentative - maybe holding back to allow the girl to shine, she has a lovely voice too. Quote:

Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to inveigle out the answer to these questions should you encounter the subject on a locomotive.
If suspicions are aroused you can try this little statistical analysis as a distraction. From the Question Compiler (I see we are now on a new part & I have lots of catching up to do!!) |

Grrrrrr ![]() Para 1 - Agree. Strictly is meant to be another feel-good show for the viewers. I think TPTB were so blinded by their agenda that they forgot this, because I certainly wasn't left feeling good after the mauling Jaliona got in the final. Para 2 - The judges certainly seemed to be tippy-toeing around PA as though they were walking on eggshells, and at times were almost apologetic in their comments about his routines. Pity some of the others weren't treated the same. ahouch - What a brilliant review! You mentioned in scene 3 how they covered their faces in shock. It was so emotional. At the time, on the MF and elsewhere, there were even people pulling this apart, presumably from sour grapes. Why didn't they look pleased? Why are they not jumping up and down with joy, they look as if they couldn't care less. It should have gone to couple x or couple y, they would have screamed their heads off. RaffertyCat - Your poem was wonderful - it captured everything about J's time on the show so well. Great job, Whiffle
