ETA just gone and checked it out. Newspaper headline says he "fears" racism involved. But when you look at his actual words he said nothing of the sort. Deliberately misinterpreting his words. In response to a direct question about it, he just said he could not rule it out because he did not know. In his own field, athletics, there could be no question, but in entertainment he did not know but would like to think better of the British people. Perhaps someone should help him with how to better answer questions like this to give the paper no ammo, but as he said, without interviewing each viewer he could not tell what they were thinking.

Does anyone have an eye one the MF? Someone is trying her usual tactics. Already sent an alert for the "hung up" thread.

Should head off to bed

Article in the DF quoting an interview in the Mirror with Greg (allegedly) saying that you can't rule out racism playing a part in the reason why the first 3 dancers to leave were not white.

BTW Our lemony friend is back on their usual theme in the Hung up on Jay thread. I have reported them.

Trouble is, if they lock the hung up and rant threads, I'm sure one of them will just start off another one.

Oops. I couldn't help myself. I've posted again on the 'Hung up' thread. I won't do it again - tonight, anyway.

Is there another thread out there, that people are keeping an eye on? I thought there was, but I can't remember its name.

Poor Greg falling prey to pseudo journalism. But there again as an athlete he wouldn't have had the level of "media training" those in the direct entertainment industry would have.

It must be terrible to have ones words twisted out of context

I thought it was a photo of J in the early TW years too!

Going back a bit - liked Kate's interview. She does have the knack of listening to the person she's talking to.

I really loved the Radio Devon interview about Big in Plymouth. Thank you Strictly Red for noticing it, ahouch for posting the link and TsuntsuBird for finding the right bit

J does seem to be more relaxed with local radio and is very happy and chatty.
He says he hasn't sung 'properly' for 2, 3 years - got the impression he meant he hadn't sung on stage or in public for a couple of years - it's different and puts a different strain on your voice. (Not that I know much about it )

If you haven't heard it, do listen - if you've time, listen to the whole programme. There are several different interviews with 'backroom' people to do with the production as well as J and Gary W. If you like the theatre, it's really interesting.

Gary Wilmot is complimentary about J - and says it's a multimillion pound production. No pressure there then J
Gary W also says he was specifically asked to be in the production, and what a compliment that is. Seem to remember that J was specifically asked by the producers to 'have a chat' - a compliment too?

Really recommend listening to the Radio Devon interview - listen to the 'tone' of J's voice - he seems to be in his element.

To save hunting back, the link here again - J at about 2.09 after David Bowie's record.

Hi Jayfan

Hi all - we were talking about strictly at our house yesterday as junior is a big fan of Ore from News round and Rio. He did a piece for newsround yesterday and introduced Joanne to the children, which was lovely. But junior didn't like Len's comments or the aftermath. He said he thought it was disrespectful to Ore - why couldn't the judges just let people enjoy his jive for what it was, and stop comparing him to the past? He doesn't want to watch now until I've told him it's safe, no bigging up or nasty comments. We've agreed to just watch the dances without the judging. Which suits me, if I'm honest, I don't like manipulation. But how did we get to here? Manipulation obvious enough to upset a child?

Hi Agrion
Sorry to hear this.
This is a really sad state of affairs
TPTB could do with reading this.
They really have mismanaged this series.
Hope you both enjoy the dancing tonight anyway.

Does anyone know if/ when Jay's understudy might be performing instead of him in Big?
I think that sometimes they publish in advance when the understudy is standing in?
Anyone able to shed any light?

So agree with you, jayfan. I'm sorry to hear this, too, Agrion. Question is: how do we get it through to them? And how many others are dissatisfied? Do TPTB bother to find out about how their audience feels? If not, should we all employ mail-delivering drones? It would be like a snow-storm. Think they might notice, then? But seriously, In the past, I have rung the BEEB, to complain about another matter. Spoke to a real person, and felt better for it. She said she would put it on the list, to present at their next meeting, and assured me that it would be read. I don't know if the same can be said for online complaints. Depends on how many there are, I suppose.

What a lovely gift, and Portugal, too. What fun! How thoughtful of them. Great times ahead, for you....

Gary's interview was great, I will try to find it if I get the chance to go back again. Radio Devon were there for the whole morning interviewing lots of "back room" people too.

I would imagine that the understudy would only be performing the role in case of illness, and I haven't heard anything about him taking Jay's place for other reasons.

Edit:

Here is the Radio Devon link which Polly T has just reposted on Twitter. Gary's interview starts at 1 hour 37 minutes.

Don't they stand in as well, when "main" actor has a day off (or is otherwise not available)? Surely, one can't perform seven days a week. That said, I don't know the Big schedule, so can't say if they are on everyday.

PS: Thanks mods for cleaning up the thread

I think 7 or 8 performances a week is normal? Monday/Tuesday to Saturday with 2 matinees? So everyone would get Sunday off anyway.

I suppose they would stand in when an actor is unavailable, but I can't see this being the case with J.

Looks as though I have missed something. I won't ask.
