Virtual hugs and kisses to lovely Jalionistas, from the other side of the pond! Thanks for welcoming me back, jayfan and isih, it was very sweet of you.
I forgot my password, so for a while lurking was my only option, but I tried to keep up with your discussion of the new season.
Glad to find Judge Rinder's fans here on the thread. He has potential doesn't he? However, Oksana does not seem to work enough on his technique, don't you think? Admittedly, JR had been left behind by this season's numerous "ringahs" before the competition even started, so he needed to be superhuman to deal with all the content that Oksana packed in his jive AND catch up on a proper dancing technique.
Ore is good but that's it. He is so persistently overmarked it is almost indecent. Have the judges or producers finally figured out how to kill two birds with one stone: to show the program's lack of race bias and to reward a Clifton. I know some of you are going to bristle at my mentioning of the race bias, but what am I supposed to think when Tameka is pushed out to save Anastacia and when the Natalie Gumede inexplicable, shameful defeat is still fresh in my memory?
Danny Mac. Very watchable and underscored. That QS was brilliant! I also liked his Cha Cha, although he looked out of breath by the end. He has something that Jay lacked: supreme ease in front of the audience and a very flexible midsection. But I miss Jay's long legs and amazing feet, his beautiful arms and expressive hands, his gorgeous neck and shoulders... Jay's depth and sensitivity showed in his routines. Does Danny have depth? Can Oti pull it out?
Greg. Sigh... Too awkward. What's more, I cannot forgive him that Kardashian-style selfie that was splashed over tabloids. You know: Greg in his briefs in front of a mirror. Bleh. Cannot stand narcissists of any kind (Will Young including).
As far as female contestants are concerned, I like Louise and most of her routines. Loved her chaste Rumba. I don't mind Kevin. No, scratch that: I am loving Kevin in his subdued version. I can finally see not a manic clown but a serious talented professional. If only Louise added a little spice to her performances, I would be very happy with THIS Clifton's victory. My formula of a potential mirror ball winning partner for Kevin is (Kelly+Louise):2. As it is now, however, the judges are bigging up Joanne. She must have a number of relatives writing on the SCD forum, too, judging by the number of threads about her looks, her choreography, her 39-point jive. I doubt anyone else will be allowed to lift the mirror ball this season.
And you know what? I don't care. There is not a trace of last year's excitement and impatience and endless replaying of the YouTube videos...
But, my dear talented Jalionistas, if you are invested in some pairs this year, I am wishing you many exciting moments and satisfying results. Sorry if I was too critical of your favorites. Thank you for your poems, pictures, and reviews!
