It is the 10 January 2017, the last performance of Big has just taken place in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre and I am standing outside the stage door surrounded by squealing women. I was manhandled, or womanhandled I should say by unnamed persons, who may or may not have been of Irish extraction, they even had red bungy cords so I couldn’t escape, I mean who comes to the theatre armed with red bungy cords.

The squealing continues and I am transported back to age 13 watching David Essex and being deafened not by his singing but by, I shall call her Michelle, who was 6 years older, 15cm taller and considerably heavier than me and to cap it off was wearing very scary sparkly green eyeshadow. All I wanted was David to sing Hold Me Close to me, just to me and all I could hear was “David, David I love you” shrieked in my left ear every 30 seconds. You have no idea how traumatised, and deaf, you left me Michelle.

I give myself a proverbial slap and I’m back outside the theatre, someone has made an appearance and the squealing gets louder, although I’m sure I heard someone say “you are a bit sweaty”, but I might have dreamt that. I find a nearby wall and sit on it, I have no idea whether there are any walls outside the theatre but this is my dream so there are! I take refuge by playing with my phone with total concentration, or maybe I’m updating the thread with a running commentary of proceedings, when I sense that someone has sat down next to me and then an arm is placed gently round my shoulders. I turn and look up into a pair of piercing blue eyes that are twinkling with amusement “hello Lola the Cat” says he, “hello back” says I. A conversation then ensues, which is somehow conducted in total privacy, and before too long we are exchanging phone numbers, this is really going to happen – isn’t it, and arranging to meet for lunch the next day before we both fly back to Birmingham, yes somehow we are both on the same flight, the spooky coincidences are just racking up here, when…

…the cat jumped on my head and I woke up.

To be continued in my head…or maybe I fell through a wormhole in space and found myself in a parallel universe and this is really going to happen.
Enjoyed that Lola - of course you meant the 7th January 2017 in RL
Lots of stone/cement benches for you to sit on..with room for your curly headed men with blue eyes to sit along-side you on also - a good few red poles too (just outside the theatre entrance.
Dream on and Dream BIG

Poor J, bombarded with briefs
Embroidered with loving motifs.
He'll have quite a collection,
All signs of affection.
I hope they won't give him much grief.

I was going to edit my ramble for the accidental incorrect date, but was too late so please just ignore it, I won't write anything like it again, I'll stick to lurking again - it's probably safer.
Loved it! Don't worry about a date.

Evening all

Well another of lovely treats
Thanks Manteray and Whiffle.

It was so, so lovely to hear Jay so relaxed in those radio interviews. Lots of lovely Jay laughs.

Slightly worried about his voice, sounds a bit croaky still but will not wibble. Hopefully cutting out the dairy will help.

So the dance he rehearsed for only 12 hours was a slow one? Rumba? Foxtrot?

Jay thought he looked like a goat when doing the salsa with the woman on breakfast TV!

Really complementary about Diana and Gary.

I was thinking that the guy Fitz was a bit irritating as he didn't seem to know much, didn't appear to listen to Jay's answers, confused about Aliona's baby. And then I listened to what he said about Jay after the song he played after the interview, and he was SO lovely about Jay. How he was causing chaos having photos with everyone. How we was so down to earth and genuine. Worth extracting and tweeting that bit alone.

First full dress run today apparently.

Thought Jay was slightly less definite about the move to the West End?

Anyway, great to see so many people contributing on the thread and the great wave of Big inspired excitement.

Lovely to see Jnb's post.

Lovely to hear from you too Karin. Was thinking about you this week and wondered if you would post. Hope RL is ok.

Enjoying all the poems and dreams.

Can't wait for tomorrow!!!!

ETA the interview DD put on Twitter and Polly posted here worked for me. Obviously Diana wasn't a big Strictly fan!

In case anyone's missed it, here's the link to Jay's interview with Radio Devon this morning. From about 1:20

ETA Sorry Whiffle, I posted this before reading you'd done the same thing!
J was great but I didn't like the interviewer or his slightly awkward questions. Obviously never heard of J either. Didn't do his research!

Totally agree with you Korky, but as I said before, his glowing comments after the interview, just about redeemed him.

But very sorry to hear about Michael Buble's son's cancer diagnosis.

Hope that they are left in peace to deal with the situation.

I cut him off immediately!

Conversely this interview with Radio Cornwall is happy, fun, fluid with rapport, and J sounds much better, if a little hoarse. 🐴

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone for posting the links to radio interviews today - it was great to hear Jay enjoying himself so much - and lovely to hear David Fitzgerald's comments after his interview. Maybe he has a short memory, because surely it was him doing the interviews with Jay and Gary at the Theatre Royal last week?

Nice to hear that Jay has known about Aliona's news for a few weeks - they are obviously still well in touch with each other despite the width of the Atlantic!

I'm in Plymouth now, have sussed out the theatre, picked up my tickets for tomorrow and caught a glimpse of Jay outside the back of the theatre this afternoon doing some running around and lunges before/during/after what I now realise was a dress rehearsal. I think he was in his piano scene outfit and looked extremely fit (in all senses of the word )

It is a bit of a shame, but the promotional posters outside the theatre and the fliers inside still have Denise Van Outen's name on them - they were obviously all printed up before she pulled out. It does mean that Jessica Martin's name isn't on them though. Hopefully the programmes have the right cast! There also seems to be a bit of a tussle with Dublin, as Plymouth is billing it as the European premiere as well as Dublin

Looking forward to tomorrow even more now....

ETA - Lola, hope your Dublin dream comes true (fingers crossed smiley )

Oh Rafferty. The picture in my head now of 'Bridgets-and-a-half' is priceless.
Just imagining these landing on the stage in front of J.

If they are really immense

As the bruising would be so intense

Brilliant, janet, so happy for you. It's getting more and more exciting.

Thank you to the folks who are keeping us all informed. Makes me feel like I'm going through it all with you. Thanks for sharing.

Re the promotional posters and programmes. Don't know what they'd do in these circumstances. It would be, what could be, a quite large, and unexpected expense: which would eat into their budget. And there'd be nothing really to show for it, as they had already paid for the original ones. Pity, that. But then, Jessica is one of the stars, and should get credit for it. Added to which people will want to know more about her: especially when they've seen her in the show. Not to mention the work that Denise might get offered if people think it's her! Wonder if Dublin had already had their stuff printed, as well.

Really liked the radio interviews. Thank you to all who posted them. And the pics. Jay's voice does still sound a bit hoarse. Giving up dairy should help with, shall we say, the productiveness of his nose, throat, and airways, generally. Does sound like he's going on iron rations, tho'. The Accidental Vegan - well almost.

Oh, but Korky, your dream would come true,
As I know you've got arnica with you.
You'd rush to his side
Trampling heads with your stride,
And remove all traces of blue.

Would this be the first 'stamped official' BIG Jayspot ???

ETA Thanks to Nelliek for your BIG packing post that has inspired all the great knicker verses from Korky BB & Rafferty

Ah, clerihew, I wondered what that was - never heard of it before! My daft doggerel takes many forms - a rhythm pops into my head and off I go - it's all a bit rough and off the cuff.....

Forty eight hours to go........... can't wait to hear about it all!
Re your post of yesterday:-
BIB. You've said this before of, in my view, your fine poetry. I meant to pick you up on it then, but the notion floated off: as it did, again, this time. Fortunately it drifted back into view - so I grabbed it. None of your poetry is daft doggerel. I think it's great fun - but not doggerel, or daft, for that matter. But I know what you mean. It's very tempting to use the term to describe one's own odic efforts.

ETA. Thanks, Whiffle. Glad you enjoyed the knicker musings. And thanks to nelliek, Korky and BB for inspiring me to put pen to paper.

I've just spotted your post, hannah, and have to thank you for it. I feel much better, now that I know mine are only Bridget-point-two-fives. That one-quarter makes all the difference to a girl......
Still, if three or four Bridgets-and-a-half were launched, and hit target: he could make a parachute for himself.....
