Obviously I would really like to see J do a Morris Jig but if I can’t have that then my choice is:

Charleston
Argentine Tango

Then my choice of 2 new/different dances, because I would like to see him move on from SCD, and yes I know he is doing BIg, but move on in a dance sense.

For my first choice I decided I wanted something with tap in it, so I would like something along these lines;

https://youtu.be/MsS7B8nyw5Y

For my second, I initially thought of something comtempowafty, but when I was looking for the tap I found this and I think he could do something like this routine;

https://youtu.be/wDHwJrbrp0Y

So, sorry Whiffle, I have absolutely no idea how you will list them, "Fred tap routine" and "Fred romantic routine"?

[quote=Huph;82707220]I agree with you it could be based in any toy store in any city.

Hey, great idea, Huph, what about downtown Astana, with Aliona as non-accented dialogue coach? He'd be on top of the technik in no time....

??????? No need to be rude!!!!

That's twice you have made a rude comment to something I posted. Won't be posting again to give you the chance to do it a third time.

I don't really like poetry but I just skim over it.

The revised AT as I described is top of my list x 4. Still cogitating on the others...

Aw shucks, 10 was too many, wasn't it

OK, here's my real four:
Waltz
Tango
Foxtrot
Charleston

Thanks Whiffle, you must have the patience of a saint.
Looking forward to another excellent pie chart.

Huph please keep posting!
It's all about opinion and you're just voicing yours - which of course is as valid as anyone's
For what it's worth, my opinion is, though the original film is based wherever, why not play to your star's strengths (or at least, not make it harder for him by throwing in accents?)
Could be Hamleys it's based in..... #JustSayin

Ps *whispers* the poetry isn't always my favourite either, but i know it is lots of people's so I skim through & join in when there's something I feel able to contribute to.
PPS I hope I don't/didn't bore anyone about Becks either. Will try to keep it down to a dull whimper

How sad to see you go
when we've hardly said hello
I don't mind if you don't like what I write
But have no need to take as a slight

Never!!! Loved hearing about Becks, was rooting for you both right to the end. Your memories of him are cherished here too - and I'm sure I'm not only speaking for myself when I say that.

Not a dull whimper jnb, lots of us on here lived through the whole ordeal of Becks with you because we wanted to help if we could.

I will leave it in your capable hands Whiffle - I trust your judgement.

Re the setting of Big, there are lots of films/plays that are adapted and changed all the time. Off the top of my head the book High Fidelity was set in London, the film and play are set in Chicago. Big would be an easy story to move country, as someone else said London and Hamleys would work. It is not just J's accent that has to thought of, it is after all an ensemble cast not a solo project. There is nothing wrong if the setting is moved, the story is more important than the country.

Off to carry on watching Dr Who with Christopher Ecclestone - better than people arguing about something we don't know will happen one way or another

Thank you Whiffle.
AT
Charleston
VW
Showdance

Happy collating😊

Should maybe say in that order, so the Paso would probably take place of the Showdance

A poem to J
Is a therapeutic way
To express what we are feeling.
We write to protest
Or sometimes in jest
And find it very healing.

Thanks jnb. And no you haven't bored anyone about Becks, we all went through it with you.

I am not a prolific poster anyway and I have enjoyed this thread since way before the final last year but it is definitely best if I stay off. I really am upset about the reply I got, just thought there was no need for it. I was expressing an opinion and fair enough if you don't agree just don't be sarcastic or rude in the reply.

You're speaking for me too Pitstop.

Becks was, and still is, our thread pet, jnb.

Just in after a long day and listened to it - thanks for putting it on here. Great interview, sounded good.

I'm just watching the movie Big right now - it's great to see it again. Josh is at the funfair, turned away from the ride for being too small, and talking to Zoltar asking to be big ....... yikes !!

It was me who originally talked about Hamleys. But the book as it stands is NYC and we won't know if that will be changed until nearer the date. Whatever happens, I'm sure it will be a great show.

No argument, just debate - this is a forum, after all!

As it was me that first brought up the query about 'twang' and accent. Let me clarify, I meant in the realms of singing...one of the attractions of TW and perhaps most markedly so with Jay, was that they sang in their own voices rather than some affected transatlantic pop twang.

On that basis, I was hoping that Jay might be allowed to retain his own voice in BIG. He does have a fantastic ear for accents and is actually a great linguist, but I also don't really see the need for BIG to be located soley in the US.

Surely the central premise of a boy struggling in an adult world is universal?
Don't we all feel out of our depth sometimes / often?

I can't wait to see how production handle this but I know Jay will smash it, either way.

There's nothing wrong with rhyme
It's with us all the time
The nursery rhymes we learned
The star cross'd lover spurned
Lyrics that can make us weep
Or a lullaby to soothe a child to sleep...

BIB. Yes the production will be interesting

And for the rest I am with you all the way there Speedy. Jay can handle his "accents" better than most voiced trained actors. He has a natural ear.

The one that could have worried me with an American accent would be DVO.
I've never heard her do accents so I may be completely wrong. She may be very good at them. But I just seem to hear her normal accent.

But any story can be transplanted to various cities worldwide I would think.

With every little snippet of PR that is revealed, I find myself getting more and more excited

Huph, I would have been very upset to have received that reply too. You have been here a very long time and IMO the tone of the reply was not called for.

Perhaps if everyone could try to feel how they would if they received the reply they were about to post, before they pressed send?

It is very hard to interpret tone through the written word and I for one feel we all need to stick together in our appreciation of J&A in whatever way that is. I would hate for ANYONE to feel they have to leave because they were upset or made to feel uncomfortable by something aimed at them in here

As I said, the poetry isn't my favourite thing but I read and join in when something more relevant to me or my view strikes a chord.

I hope I haven't upset anyone by speaking up but I don't like to see one of our very long standing posters upset,

*gets off soap box*

I saw DVO play Charity in 'Sweet Charity' at Cadogan Hall last year. Her accent was fine, her acting a little stilted but then it was partly from the book with barely a weeks rehearsal. Plus, I did have Shirley MacLaine as an earworm that night
