It's lovely to see J so at ease and happy - everything's slotting into place for him now. He's walking tall to a stellar future, and I'm ridiculously happy for this man I'd never heard of before Strictly!

Can I cheekily ask someone to gather together or help me to locate all the Big reviews?
The search function from my phone is painful and I can't remember what page they started on. There are reviews from Fridgesoup, Rosedroplet, Cato and Nelliek so far I think.

Random thought - if Big is finishing its Dublin run in January and apparently opening in WE in April-ish, will J do his usual of vanishing to the US or will Damien line up some, say presenting, jobs to keep him in the public radar before he opens in the WE.

Perhaps Jayfan could sort something when she has her next meeting with Damien. You did exchange numbers, emails, linked up on LinkedIn etc with him didn't you Jayfan - so you can pass on what we would like to see J in between January and April

This is it - the difference between J and others who are just clinically going through the motions. I really think his future is set as he loves what he's doing and is excellent at doing it. I'd still love to see him in a straight play at some point too though.

Me too!
I agree that Jay seems much more Jaylike than he did at times in SCD and that he is obviously having a lot of fun.

I also think though that we should recognise the immense pressure there must have been on Jay, leading in a new production in his first professional musical theatre role. We have heard from Aliona that he is very hard on himself and very self critical so he would rightly expect a lot of himself.

Yet throughout it all, he seems to have remained his lovely self. I spoke to one of the child actors after the show and he said how lovely and kind Jay was and to a family member of one of the dancers who also said how lovely Jay was. She said he was excellent.

He must have been shattered after the matinee but he came out to see everyone, hugs, selfies, messages, autographs etc.

He does seem to be a very, very nice person as well as a talented one.

He has a refreshingly open ended view as far as the future goes, and who knows what will present itself?

He loves music, dancing and we now know he's an accomplished actor. But he has so many strings to his bow he could find something that may take him in a totally different direction - that's what makes him such an interesting character.

That is exactly how I felt after Big, Korky. I kept thinking of other roles Jay could do, theatre and musicals.

Lola- Failed I am afraid! Damien did say he was going to Dublin though....

Fridgesoup - thanks for the steer

I've been saving all the reviews to put together like the KD ones. Would you like them now or wait until they are all in ?*

Yes he does.

He dealt with the pressure very well, got his head down and went for it, and he absolutely deserves the accolades he's getting now.

HaHa! Not surprised. I was laughing and clapping on my sofa (and horrified and terrified and amazed. What's not to love? )

Agree with you fridgesoup it was too much in many different ways. The reaction of the people in the studio was similar but a bit less strong than the one for J.

P.S. Thank you to everybody for their reviews of Big and SCD.

Dancing with warmth and easy charm
Lithe of leg and graceful of arm
Acting as naturally as can be

I thought Edwas a your typical Jeremy vine/Ann Widdecome joke act and didn't take seriously that he could win. But with stats like that hes a real contender

I do think TPTB may be considering engineering a win for Ed. I wasn't joking in my earlier post about Jezzavine bigging Ed up in his radio show. They don't seem to be able to get much of a journey story on anyone else this year and it would tie up with the Trump and Corbyn wins against the odds. Yes, I do believe they could be that desperate - the Christmas show looks decidedly lacklustre too.

Overall, I thought it was a great night and a lot of really enjoyable stuff. Even where the dancing wasn't quite so good, it was made up for by a lot of eye candy

Spoiler

1. Daisy & Aljaz Salsa: Horrible tune means they need to do disco salsa, which is always the worst. However, Daisy manages some slinky hips with those long legs of hers. Lifts also excellent. But the routine didn't seem to go anywhere and she didn't quite seem to 'let go.' Still, very enjoyable.

2. Greg & Nat Paso: Nat giving it lots of skirtage, Greg giving lots of attitude and looking very handsome. He was wearing the proper matador trousers which made his legs look like they went on forever. He did create a lot of resistance in the body and Nat took advantage of the strength in his legs with a jump & knee walk here or there. Arm shaping left something to be desired and excessive shoulder hunching going on there. He's still not a dancer, but he's gradually improving. Has he hit a ceiling now? Not sure. Enjoyable again.

3. Rob & Oksana FT: Playing it straight this time. I thought it had a lovely, floaty and elegant quality while still having a couple of playful moments fitting his personality. I think this is the way they should have gone all along (not that they were given a choice). Technique still leaves something to be desired but getting better. Would like it if Oksana reduces hairography a bit, though. Best put down of the series so far when Craig started going on about Rob's expression instead of his dancing, saying he'd improved his face so that he could look at it now and enjoy himself. Quick as a flash, Judge came back with "let me know when that happens for you, Craig". Bwahahahah!

4. Ore & Jo rumba: The most sexless and least romantic rumba on the show. Got the impression Ore would be doing just as well/better dancing without Jo there. Generally speaking, I'm trying to avoid comparisons with J, but I noticed the same thing with both Ore and Danny - experts might contradict me, but it seemed to me they both were 'faking' their hip movement (achieving it just by rotating - I think dancers call it "popping" the hips?). Only J achieved the hip movement organically by 'settling' into the standing leg. However, Ore did achieve some lovely arm movement in parts.

5. Ed & Katya salsa: Dance of the season! Katya is a total genius. Unlike Karen with Will's Bollywood adventure, Katya always kept in mind that this was supposed to be a salsa. So there was a lot of salsa basic in there. Ed was absolutely terrible at it with not the slightest bit of hip movement, picking up the legs etc. etc., and visibly counting along for all he was worth , but the content was there. Layered on top were the Gangnam moves, with an additional spectacular twist and some Dad dancing thrown in. Then some great lifts - the mount into the first was a little ropey, but dismount was good and lifts after that were incredibly smooth - as good as we've seen from other contestants. I'm not sure whether it was intentional, but I noticed that with the first lift, once he had Katya settled on his shoulders, Ed's footwork was in time with the music. I suspect that it was intentional, and I was impressed. Absolutely hysterically funny and well worth a place in Blackpool.

6. AJ & Cloudier VW: pretty little dance, but a bit forgettable. Music seemed a bit slow to me which gave it a slightly lethargic feel. Shame for them also that it came after the Ed Balls extravaganza.

7. Doti AT: I just can't like this one, and it's because of the music. I don't like the song in the first place, and the arrangement they made of it gave the routine more of a "Paso" feel. However, AT expert on another thread gave this one the thumbs up and she is normally extremely critical, so I understand this one to be a great dance and my dislike is personal. Also didn't like the frill on Oti's dress which just got in the way. A bit of a shame too that Danny doesn't have J's legs, as J's length of leg would go better with Oti - this dance showed up the difference in a couple of places.

8. Louise & Kev AS: Frustrating. I was hoping for something a bit better here - it had all the ingredients. Kev being more restrained (I like him so much more with Louise than I did with Kellie), minimal faff, campest tune evah. There was just one moment (at 00:57) where I thought she might break through - she threw caution to the wind for a moment and just flung her head to one side and arm down with abandon. You could see the difference in her body, which suddenly had punch. But the next moment, we were back to controlled and placed. Such a shame.
”

Thank you, TT. You have more technical knowledge (well, quite a bit more, I think) than me, so the extra points you provide, are really useful. If I had the good sense to number each performance, as you did, I would have noticed that I had missed one, in time to add it, before posting. As it was, I think I was still giggling when I was typing the third entry, and in my eagerness to talk about the fifth one, I missed out number four, completely.

And, to all - I appreciate the all the feedback re my reviews etc., thank you...

I've been voting for him every week. (except paso week. Horrendous!). My free votes this week went to Ed, Claudia and JR. One each from the top, middle and bottom of the range , but I like them all.
