It is very hard to interpret tone through the written word and I for one feel we all need to stick together in our appreciation of J&A in whatever way that is. As I said, the poetry isn't my favourite thing but I read and join in when something more relevant to me or my view strikes a chord.

I hope I haven't upset anyone by speaking up but I don't like to see one of our very long standing posters upset,

I just got a girl crush on you 💕

Stands and applauds you 👏👏👏

I love the dancing on the roof scene with Shirley McClaine, 'If they could see me now'. Absolutely brilliant. The original Italian film was heart rending, and no music to lighten the mood. I remember seeing that on tv with subtitles.

Driving, no singing, too much tongue

Btw, fess up! Who of you works for an Irish radio station, had an interview scheduled with Jay, but forgot to mention that? But good job for slipping in a question about Pringles.

ETA: Another fancy night (or day) out for Ali it seems

I'm glad it was good but I also would have had Shirley MacLaine in my head.

I can see her dancing and singing to If They Could See Me Now.
It is the song and dance I always equate to Shirley.

Evening all

Just been on another train
No Jay
No drunks this time
One smelly burpy man though

Off to watch the waltz to immerse myself in something beautiful.

May just listen to today's interview a few more times too....

And SPEEDY

I now equate it with Tom and Camilla's show dance-one of the best of all times - especially then - IMHO of course....😛

So, I've just finished watching Big, and thoroughly enjoyed it again. It really is perfect for Jay - even young Tom Hanks has Jay's curly hairstyle. I'd forgotten how many scenes of a romantic nature there are in it - lots of kissing, a bit of undressing and she does end up moving in to his apartment ! Hope they keep some of it in for this production because it is very tenderly portrayed, and not in any way weird

Huph Please read jnb_7's post # 1449, and take on board what she says - especially her first 2 sentences. What happened to me on here last night won't stop me posting after all my years on DS, and the rudeness you have experienced on here this evening shouldn't stop you from posting either

Hi,

Just swinging in from purdah (not even lurkerdom recently) for a quick post.

jnb, I think I share Lola's girl crush. And thank you so much for fessing up to your feelings about the poetry. I enjoy it in moderation (esp the haikus and I loved Ahouch and Whiffle's stranger) but I do blip over the longer rhyming poems sometimes and then end up feeling guilty about it. You were never a bore with Becks and I am so sorry that you have lost him - that is a hurt that will take a long time to mend.

Hope to rejoin you all soon.

PS - I can't go without saying thank you to speedtrap for posting the Arthur Ashe clip (i've been meaning to say it for months!). I followed the trail on the web and those videos are the most joyous things I have seen for ages.

[quote=hannah 01.;82705556]Also done at stooopid o'clock.

Half past three in the morning does not agree with me and yet I often find myself there.

Awake, fairly alert, like some insomniac cuckoo who pops out of the darn clock every 5 minutes croaking.

I know exactly what you mean Hannah,,you seem to have the same sleep problems as me.i think it must be a woman's thing.
On that note I'll say night night everyone.x

Ooh sorry danceagogo but Tom and Camilla were not my cuppa tea.🍵
I didn't feel any chemistry.
And their show dance along with their paso for example was a bit of a gurnfest for me.
Something JoJo Clifton and Paolo did in their show dances (not the world competition ones)
Although I liked him this Christmas with Oti and I did think they should have won not Harry. Sorry Aliona

I'm lost again. Easily done😙
I am assuming there are 2 Arthur Ashes?

Can't see Speedy posting a tennis link- I know she will forgive me for that statement😛

See, I'm stuck in an Elvis soundtrack - bit like Groundhog Day and know nothing....😍

Yes, that's a shame. Just watched it again talking about it.
I loved it, but quite happy with people who didn't.
It is though one of my favourites. Great how we're all different. 💃💃.

Totally agree re Christmas. As a Tom fan, therefore this means more, I was totally surprised how good he was and thought he nailed the Charleston to perfection.
And although I was also a Harry fan, thought Tom had the edge at Christmas.

There you go.

Nowt as queer as folk😙

Perhaps should edit to say Jay comes first though and Matt Baker second!!

I'm editing again - or maybe first equal ( not talking ability. Jay def first there)

The last couple of days has at times appeared to be ill tempered and intolerant of others views, it has felt as though we are Dave and Boris debating Remain and Brexit! We should all take a step back and look at the title of thread we are posting on - it is called The J and A Appreciation Thread, but crucially it does not dictate how we should appreciate. We also have to remember that yes, whilst we all appreciate J and A to varying degrees, we are all different. We range in age from something like 18 to 80, in all probability come from different backgrounds and lead different lives, with different interests. We should therefore try to remember that what one person is interested in another one may not be but their opinion is equally valid.

Some people like poetry, others not so much. Some like just dance discussions, others TW. Some like innuendo, others cringe and turn away. All posts have their place and should be allowed, and no one should be made to feel that they are not welcome and their posts should not be dismissed rudely. We are not governed by how many posts can be made so there is room for everyone to have a say.

In the words of Thumper’s Mum *If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”.

I’m going to turn in now and hope that when / if I come back tomorrow peace will reign.

That's what my dad used to say too. If you can't say anything nice about somebody keep quiet ( sorry, don't know who Thumper's mum is. Only know the rabbit 😂..)

Mind you, there are some people who do talk a lot of drivel and innuendo and sometimes in life you just have to reply I suppose.

Sweet dreams Lola.

Thank you for this link DD. For some reason I couldn't access the podcast but this worked perfectly. Good interview and Jay's chuckle made me smile.

For what it's worth, my opinion is, though the original film is based wherever, why not play to your star's strengths (or at least, not make it harder for him by throwing in accents?)
Could be Hamleys it's based in..... #JustSayin

Ps *whispers* the poetry isn't always my favourite either, but i know it is lots of people's so I skim through & join in when there's something I feel able to contribute to.
PPS I hope I don't/didn't bore anyone about Becks either. Will try to keep it down to a dull whimper(”

Please don't feel you bore anyone about Becks. He's a big part of your life and I feel privileged that I got to know about such a majestic creature.

I confess I read everything and look at all the pics, vids and gifs posted. Some pique my interest more than others but those that don't I don't look at again. I'm probably more guilty than most of going OT but that may be because of the current dearth of news about JAliona. I hope others feel free to ignore my more random musings.

Two of my favourite films are West Side Story and The Magnificent Seven. The first based on Romeo and Juliet, a play written by an Englishman, set in Italy about feuding families and forbidden romance transferred to gang feuds in NYC. The second based on a Japanese film/story about good against evil, swapping Samurai swords for shotguns and pistols. These themes seem universal and I'm with speedy in that the trials and tribulations of growing up as shown in Big are likely to happen anywhere.

I long ago realised that plays and films are rarely totally faithful to the text on which they are based. If I am lucky enough to see Big in the West End, all I want is to enjoy it and hope it is successful.

ETA Not sure what happened to the quote but was replying to jnb. (The technonumpty rides again, sorry!)

Hi Jelly.

I am having some difficulty with quotes aswell.
It seems to pick bits and bobs of mixed quotes. Strange.

I too loved both West Side Story (possible part for J there) 😉

Seven Samurai -the original is excellent and the Western based on it was good .

As for BIG I am like you and would only be able to go to WE. Family things may still preclude that but you never know.
