Hi everyone, long time no posts, but here's my quick review of Saturday night's Keep Dancing
Arrived in Edinburgh at 1 .40, on a ridiculously packed train full of kilted rugby fans going to the Murrayfield game. All reserved seats were disregarded, just a grab a seat where you could situation. Boarded at Aberdeen so was ok, but anyone getting on further down the line found their reserved seats occupied and having to stand in a crush. And no toilets were working ! Lots of disgruntled passengers.
Headed to the Playhouse and was surprised to see Aliona, Vin and Jay going in through the main entrance doors ahead of me. It was 7.10pm, but they don't go on stage until well after curtain up. Aliona was in her winter coat and cream bobble hat, and Jay in jumper and scarves. Vin and Aliona shared a kiss, and then she and Jay headed off leaving Vin in the foyer. Nobody approached them - don't think people recognised them ! Had a sneaky look at Vin - he was just standing around by himself. Looked older than in his photographs, but maybe he's been having a few late nights this week drinking with Jay and perhaps it showed in his face
Jay and Aliona danced just beautifully together. Very tender hand and head kisses in the VW, and the Rumba was as lovely as always. The Q & A session drew lots of laughs - Jay sang a bit of The Proclaimers ' 500 miles ', and bantered with audience members. Asked to describe their Strictly in one word, Jay said ' perfect ' and Aliona said ' winner '. Jay said it was the last time he and Aliona would dance together, so asked the lady singer to take that picture of them on stage with the audience behind, as a memento for them. It's turned out perfectly, and I'm so glad I got to see them for real after waiting for so long
Review
No appearance at the stage door by Jay and Aliona sadly, but we did see Robin and the dancers. Robin chatted for ages and posed happily for photos, hiding his fag behind him ! He said the Edinburgh audiences had been wonderful, and he loved the city and could happily live in it. He said the show is having a long break, and will re-open in Birmingham next year. If anyone is still thinking of going - even without Jaliona you will enjoy it. It was worth every penny it cost to travel and stay overnight to see it
