As it's 1st December today I thought this might be fun (mind you it's probably a Whiffle Whimsy that only appeals to me! )”

No,it appeals to me too!
Thanks Whiffle.

Jnb- thanks for the info about Big recording. Wonder what the changes are? Roll on Jan 7th!

This is a wonderful Whifflewhimsy! It appeals very much thank you!

Oh Whiffle has made us a calendar
For advent, which is very kind of her.
Will a window each day
Show Jay in growing disarray
Until Christmas when all decorum I'll surrender?

Yes, our Whiffle's been wondrous again
But sneak peekers will click on in vain
For our antics she's clocked
And those windows stay blocked
Till the next day's reveal of our swain!

Lovely words again last night Korky.

Hello again Snippy - I remember you from when I was lurking - I hope things improve for you soon.

I'm sure I saw Bees a few pages back too, but I can't find the post.

Hope you both stay awhile, anyway!

But how do you know this, pray?
Have you clicked on another day?
We mustn't be weak
And at Jay try to peek
For we all know that crime doesn't pay

*waves to snippy* Nice to hear from you again
Hope things are better for you now.

Isih has been defending your jobs for you

ETA clever Whiffle

Wonder if rehearsals have started already for Big either in London or in Dublin? or maybe J came back a bit early to join in with the 'extra' bits for the Big recording?

Have noticed has a v distinctive way of saying 'rehearsals', but don't think it's regional. Have noticed that he hasn't really lost his E Midlands accent, but in a v early TW clip his local accent was stronger. J's one of those singers who hasn't acquired a strong American accent to sing - despite the fact he's lived in the USA so much.
Guy Garvey is another - he has definitely kept his accent

And best wishes to Aliona whether here or in Florida

Well Christmas does come quicker
If you are a chocolate nicker
But in respect of this year's sweet
Just seeking out one more treat
Was in vain because Whiffle is slicker!

Whiffle does cleverly frustrate
Those with an impatient trait
To see the next Jaypic
With an extra sneaky click
So patience I do advocate

Patience can be a virtue
For those who are under curfew
But it's hard to resist temptation
For the wonderful sensation
Of a quick and sneaky e-view!

Hello. A quick delurk here.
Just thought I'd pop in just in case you all haven't seen this yet. A new thread. To be honest I thought someone out in MF land would have dropped this stone in sooner. But hey ho.

ULTIMATE DANCE OFF --this thread has just been opened on the MF.

It is a poll between Jay's Jive and Danny's Samba.

Thanks for all the suits everyone (birthday or otherwise)... and bow ties.

And thanks for the link to the Australian interviews jnb - it's amazing how much there is out there on the internet still to find - and of course one has to keep looking! . I hadn't realised before today that TW had ever been on Top of the Pops (it looks like a 2011 Christmas special)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkS0BfSgWBs

And finally for the moment, I found an interesting review of Word of Mouth, which had some interesting things to say about their management and production. There's a video version and a text version. He gives it 7 out of 10, but having looked at some of his other reviews, that's a pretty good score.

Oh yawn! It'll soon turn into yet another Jay-bashing thread once his usual detractors see it. Think the habitual poll maker simply wants to see J lose something for once.

That is such an interesting review, janetshep, and makes some valid points. The reviewer had high hopes of the group, yet was writing as they were about to break up. It bodes well for any potential reunion.

I'm absolutely not in their original demographic, but I really enjoy their music, and agree about the power of the poetry in their lyrics. I wouldn't mind betting that a fair bit of that is down to Jay. He's the deep thinker of the group, the wordsmith, the romantic and the joker, pretty good characteristics for a lyricist. And he has perfect pitch - watch him lead the group in their a capella rendition of 'Afternoon Delight' for Ellen de Generes. All those boys are very talented, but their management were clearly unaware of their huge further potential market and failed to tap into it.

The reviewer was interesting about their vocal ranges too. MamaJan said that Jay has three plus octaves, which is pretty good, so why was he so constantly under utilised? It will be interesting to hear how he sounds singing solo, in his own right. Pretty good, I should think.

I think it's a close call, although Danny's routine didn't have the surprise factor. According to Karen in CC there were a string of errors at one point of Danny's routine, but I can only see ones too tiny to detract from the brilliance of the routine as a whole (experts can probably see more). As far as I'm aware, Jay's jive was error free - at least, I've never seen or heard to the contrary. However, within their own categories, J did the best jive and Danny did the best samba (I'm talking all 14 seasons of Strictly so far). That's not likely to change by the end of Season 14 - the only person left who could conceivably put in a good samba performance is Ore but I'm pretty sure he couldn't match the technique. For pure brilliance I would still go with J's jive. Danny's samba does make me happy, though!

As I've just posted on that thread, Danny dances with his feet, Jay dances with his soul.

I'm uncomfortable with use of the word 'soul', as it implies a degree of personal knowledge greater than we have. According to J, he probably did not have real emotional awareness (i.e. he was not really in the 'present') on the dancefloor until the salsa. That doesn't mean that there wasn't a lot that was very wonderful before then (fake it till you make it). And I'm pretty sure he would not see himself putting his 'soul' out there.
