Love the music recommendations

Just been watching Darcey on Margot Fonteyn. They said that her balance was so good as her proportions were ideal - neck, shoulders, legs.

Wonder if J has such good balance - when dancing - for the same reason?

ETA now Korky I was talking about dance

Seriously though, I know Morgot Fonteyn was in an exceptional sandard of her own above nearly anyone else.

But just wonder if good dancers - from any background - with good balance have good proportions?

I see nothing at all wrong with Jay's proportions... 👀 😍

I can't see anything wrong with his proportions,

arms - yep they look ok
torso - oh yes
legs - very definitely alright
But, on balance I think it could all need a bit of closer inspection

Jay, come here, just let me check your proportions
Jay, why are you backing off, I'm only checking
Jay, don't look so scared
Jay, I'm not one of the scary women
Jay, look no hands just looking
Jay, stop running
Jay, come back, I'm just checking your proportions

Gazing at figure still running and wanders off listlessly

Well that went well, anyway his proportions are all wrong

Do you know the best thing for me about all of this is? The fact that the, self effacing, shy ego-less geek, the one from The Wanted that everyone thought couldn't make it after they broke up and the one everyone thought as the guy with the least talent, is confounding them all. In his own quiet way he is proving them all wrong. Because he under valued himself ( maybe something to do with being bullied in his past ) didn't push himself forward and didn't blow his own trumpet, he was hugely under valued by The Wanted management. When he stars in Big in the WE and receives the plaudits, I think, by what I have heard, he deserves, he will show everyone, that he doesn't need his " wing men " anymore. In truth, he never did. He always had it at his finger tips, he just needed a catalyst like Strictly to show him that he had the wherewithal to make his professional dreams come true. I am so happy for him. He is proving good things come to good guys

I think there was that, when Jay arrived on Strictly. He tweeted about how badly he was doing and Aliona was telling him the opposite. Aliona believed in him, not just to learn the dances, but as a person. She basically told him he was fine as he was, and she (I put it) set up the 'Jay Nature Reserve'.
It's a very strong thing when someone believes in you.

That's why this song I posted on one of the first pages of the thread came to mind.

Like Jayfan, I didn't see his future in MT and, like Jayfan again, I was blown away, enthralled and entranced by him in Big.

To put it a little crudely, it hasn't half taken some balls to do it, as well. First acting part is the iconic lead role in, essentially, a revived first-time-in-the-UK musical based on an iconic movie. And he smashes it. Incredible.

Also, boy oh boy, I hope he does some solo music sometime. Not pap pop - he can do better than that, he has a voice that will stand the test of time.
I met with a friend last night (who didnt know I was a Jay fan) who saw Big the night after me. She went with her Mum in Law and her two daughters (9-11 yr olds)- they all loved it and her description was "he is a natural in the role" and loved his voice and tone. Again, like me she was particularly impressed by the young performer playing Billy and Gary Wilmot as well as Diana too.
I hadn't realised she had seen it, so it was good to get a neutral perspective from someone who attended with three generations.

Lovely comments, video and photos tweeted last night, particularly the ones with Jessica Martin's (Mrs Baskin) family - I see the pics have been posted already so won't duplicate with the accompanying tweets - here are a couple more nice comments

Good morning everyone!

Thanks to all who posted daft Christmas cracker jokes and links to lovely Christmassy songs yesterday evening. Have just had a really nice time going through those while drinking my morning coffee.

Here is a not Christmas fun song from the Sons of Pitches - a History of Boy Bands! An extra mince pie if you can recognise The Wanted!

And finally

What do you call a health-food pirate crew?

Pirates of the Carob-bean!

Q. Why is Bob Dylan's sleigh so quiet?

A. Because he has Nobel. 🎄

(Yay!)

It is indeed, Fatskia. What a lovely sentiment, and I hope you have someone - and indeed all the loyal posters here - as I do.

Promotion-wise, an unbiased and positive view is worth more than its weight in gold! We enthuse here because we already know what Jay's capable of, but the view of someone who is coming to the performance with fresh eyes means so much more, and he'd be thrilled about that.

Yes, I agree the boy who plays Billy is brilliant - I just love the tone of his voice when he's pleading with Josh to 'torrrrk to her'. His accent's spot on Joizy, and his voice has just the right level of huskiness that goes with the unpredictable squeaky soprano-to-bass variations of the average thirteen-year old, which Jay also has off to a tee. Apart from Big Josh I think it's the best part in the musical! The boy who played Billy in the film was a bit of a scene-stealer too.

Fatskia and Korky
Having someone believe in you is incredibly uplifting. I switched career midstream, and I was lucky enough to have a mentor whose belief in me really set me on the path to achievements I'd never have dreamed of when I left school at sixteen with no prospects whatsoever. It was great to have someone think you're a pretty good bet, and I'll always be grateful for it, so I'm sure the gorgeous Aliona will always have a very, very special place in Jay's heart.

Just catching up. Thanks for all the pics, jokes & Christmas song links. Here's a fav of mine that I don't think is quite so well known - That'll be Christmas by Thea Gilmore

Korky - Jaydream poem is just beautiful 💕💕

Polly - Great to have an impartial, neutral, dispassionate verdict on Jay!

BB - Yes, a mentor in the past is wonderfully encouraging, though mine was around for only a year when I was 9. Still, he's never been forgotten and I feel him on my shoulder whenever I'm writing.

Whiffle - I'd never heard that song or the singer so thanks for posting it. I think it's very good. I wonder why it's not played in shops.

Q. Why is it hard to find advent calendars?
A. Because their days are numbered. 🎅

Very clever Korky
OT I was having a good day, until I popped into supermarket to pick up a few things on my way home. Pushed trolley across car park, wheels locked and went down a pothole and the trolley tipped over on to its side. 15 broken eggs flying across the Tarmac, micro-brewery beer either smashed or rolling in every direction as were the apples and clementines, 2 loaves of bread looking like I had sat on them, yogurt covering everything else including my jeans! The good news, 3 guys stopped to help me, a teenager, a guy probably in his late 20's and and older guy in a suit. Obviously chivalry and the Christmas spirit is not dead. Well not in darkest Berkshire

If only the tarmac were clean, you could have scraped everything into a large bowl and made a very festive bread pudding, making your Christmas wish while mixing.

Evening everyone

Enjoying the Xmas banter and assorted links

Dfer - hope no ill effects from your supermarket stumble

I think there are three young Billys and Joshs. I can't remember which ones I saw. They were not the ones in the opening night in Plymouth though.

Kate of LW fame said that there had been some key changes in some numbers and a few new lyrics in the Coffee Black scene since the Plymouth version of Big.

Off to do some Xmas jobs- back later
