Star(s)

If stars disappeared
Would you miss their sight?
If stars didn't sparkle
Would you still see the light?
If stars failed to shimmer
Could you make a wish tonight?
If stars left the sky
Would you still think it bright?
If stars never twinkled
Would they lose their delight?
You'd have only the moon
To give your hopes flight.
If stars never shone
To brighten the night
We wouldn't have Jay
To make the world right

He is truly an enigma.

Hi All,

Just quickly popping in to say hi. I am still following the thread - just super busy at the moment and I haven't had anything much to contribute. Thanks to all for keeping it going by posting links, gifs and general chit chat.

I still haven't seen the SCD final. We were out on Saturday so we didn't see the start as we usually do. On Sunday little miss ahouch saw the front of the paper with Ore & Joanne on and since then she has turned down the opportunity to watch it every time I've asked her. 😔 I feel bad, I need to be less vocal about the show - I think I've spoilt it for her. I'm hoping that she'll still want to watch the Christmas special though - and I will keep quiet from now on.🙊

I have purchased the 'Big' cast recording - I was so pleased when it became available on I-tunes as I rarely get the opportunity to listen to CDs but I often listen to music on my phone on the way home from the school run. However I'min two minds about whether I should listen to it before seeing the show. On one hand I like the idea of being familiar with the songs, I often enjoy things more if I know the music in advance. On the other hand I quite like the idea of hearing it in the context of the show and think it would be great to hear Jay live first without comparing the performance to the recording. So far I've managed to skip all but one of the songs when they've appeared on the phone. I wonder if I'll hold out until the 7th?

For any of those that aren't on twitter and are interested. I'd mentioned little miss ahouch had managed to bag the main part in the years 1&2 Xmas production. Well she did all three performances last week to over 300 people at a time and absolutely smashed it! She was so expressive and really stood out. I have had so many fantastic comments from teachers and parents about it I am bursting with pride. She has become a bit of a superstar at school, especially amongst the teachers. However she has taken it all in her stride and now doesn't want me to talk to people about it (even relatives!) as she thinks it's showing off! What a ⭐️.

Sending you all good wishes - I hope to be able to post something more interesting soon - definitely after the 7th anyway! Xx

There is a film called The Cello Player that he might be referring to? The story of which might be a reference to recent events I think there's also a painting but that might be a bit obscure.

Classical music was used quite a bit in Star Trek.

Ugh! Enough Mr McG. It's too early in the morning for brain strain!

Apparently the next series of Stranger Things is about to be released....maybe he's got a part in the next Star Trek film....maybe someone special has a part in either of them..Jean-Luc Picard loves string quartets...maybe he's just had a few and been binge watching Sci-Fi....I think I need to stop making mince pies and do something to occupy my brain! Fun though!

Yes, I agree the boy who plays Billy is brilliant - I just love the tone of his voice when he's pleading with Josh to 'torrrrk to her'. His accent's spot on Joizy, and his voice has just the right level of huskiness that goes with the unpredictable squeaky soprano-to-bass variations of the average thirteen-year old, which Jay also has off to a tee. Apart from Big Josh I think it's the best part in the musical! The boy who played Billy in the film was a bit of a scene-stealer too.

Fatskia and Korky
Having someone believe in you is incredibly uplifting. I switched career midstream, and I was lucky enough to have a mentor whose belief in me really set me on the path to achievements I'd never have dreamed of when I left school at sixteen with no prospects whatsoever. It was great to have someone think you're a pretty good bet, and I'll always be grateful for it, so I'm sure the gorgeous Aliona will always have a very, very special place in Jay's heart.”

Yes - it meant a lot when someone believed in me.

Weeks before she met Jay, Aliona retweeted this Instagram from Rumer Willis to Val Chmerkovski.

Reading through your post, ahouch, I thought of Young Josh singing 'I wish she wouldn't hug me in front of other boys'. Lovely that she's such a star, and great to be a very, very proud mum, but the street cred of the playground decrees discretion!

If it helps, the music on that CD is stunning. There isn't a song on there that isn't brilliant. This morning, OH asked me what I was singing as I was getting stuff ready for our lunch guests about to arrive - I didn't even realise I was singing. Anyway, the song is 'We're gonna be fine'. And it's still running round in my head.

Have to go now myself!

Hello everyone!

I know this is early, but just popping in now because I'm going to be away for Christmas from tomorrow, so may not get the chance to come on here for a few days.

So, may I be the first person here to wish a Very Merry Christmas and a peaceful, prosperous New Year to everyone who visits this thread, whether to post or just to read our ramblings!

And from here too - wishing everyone travelling a safe journey, a stress-free and fun Christmas, hoping all the challenging rellies behave themselves and no-one's OH decants the gravy down the sink this year or lets the cat into the dining room when the turkey's still on the table....

Here's also wishing the best of everything to Jay and Aliona and their nearest and dearest, everyone at BIG and hopefully better things for everybody in 2017.

Phew, I think I'll just go and have a nice lie down now....

Oops, nearly forgot Damien for being a brilliant agent! Well done that man (although I expect Jay would include him in his nearest & dearest anyway)

Reminiscence

A little girl with long fair curls
Somewhere in the distant past
Woke up happy on Christmas Day
While the snow fell thick and fast.

Now at this same time of the year
There's a tinge of melancholy
For that young child of long ago
Unwrapping her pretty dolly.

But the years pass by so swiftly
And the young girl who was me
Knew not what life had in store
And would never be as free.

If only we could hold back time,
Let no carefree moments pass by,
And that little girl of yesteryear
Would never say goodbye...

But that little girl inside
Has merely gone to hide
And every now and then
She'll shake those curls again
Especially on the day
That she finally meets our Jay!

I just want to wish you all a very happy Christmas and hope 2017 is a good year. The world needs it. I usually go to Berlin but am staying in the UK this time having had a bit of a health scare.
BB, your remarks about the gravy and the cat made me laugh as both those things have happened to me!
All the very best to you all. x

Yes, i've had my moggies help themselves to the delights of the festive table in the past.

Another incident I recall was my ex "helping" unasked (a once a year event) by pouring the damson coulis over everyone's Christmas dinners. I'd spent ages making it to go over a winter dessert and he said he thought it was "like cranberry sauce".

ETA We have new Christmas emoticons!

Alas the curls have gone
And all is fair and short
But be assured that if we meet
With decorum I'll deport
For I'd never ask him for a hug
Or scream at him or shout
But if he wants a cuddle
He'll have to ask me out!

That's a classic!

Today, with half an hour until our lunch guests arrived, I asked OH if he'd mnd whipping the silver cloth over our one and only wine coaster to brighten it up. So I go into the dining room ten minutes later only to be knocked out by the smell of duraglit wadding.......and OH in Marigolds polishing away with gusto.....

This, for any of you with volunteering OH's, is a classic example of the need for absolutely prrrecise instructions that cover every aspect of the operation. Himself was highly indignant that I'd only asked for the coaster to be polished, and had not told him where to do it......

But a gentleman like that
With curls under his hat
Would never hug a lady
Before she says she's ready
To accept a huge embrace
With a sweet smile on her face
Unless overcome by his charms
She leaps straight into his arms!

Well that's a good idea
Especially as I'm small;
In fact I'm fairly sure
He'd not notice me at all.
He'd treat me as his rucksack
And carry me around
All the way to his hotel...
My feet wouldn't touch the ground.
