Sad news indeed about George Michael and Rick Parfitt (secret Quo fan).

Hope everyone has a good Boxing Day/St. Stephens Day.

Lovely pics, thanks Korky.

What a nice family they seem to be. I love J's sideways glance, a very brotherly look - I think he's probably had quite enough pictures taken of him in the past months!

His choice of language is lovely when talking about his sister, so unusual for a young man and in such a gentle way.

I love Quo and think George Michael wrote some lovely songs too, and they'll always be there for us and future people to enjoy.

Measured words on a page
Speak to us deeply, it's true
And carefully chosen words
Can often see us through

Every word is spoken
All written to be said
Each word is voiced
Even the ones in our head

A content man has written
Words that so engage
Revealing his feelings
In words upon the page

A techno-numpty here - what is the significance of someone following you on twitter?

Lovely words too, Korky!

Depends who it is.

In the case of celebrities, who themselves are often followed by hundred of thousands of people (Jay has 885,000 followers), some follow people fairly willy-nilly and can't possibly keep track of them (Max George follows over 58,000 people). Jay is quite sparing with his follows (2,114 at the time of writing ) and seems to follow friends, colleagues, people/accounts that interest him and supportive fans.

So it means they can read your tweets if they want?

OH and I have just sat through the first twenty minutes of 'Billy Elliot The Musical' on TV. Glad I didn't pay good money to see that, it's awful, none of the real rawness, pathos and wry humour of the film - I didn't feel engaged with any of the characters or the music at all. To me it was all a bit cheap - lacklustre music and script. Quite honestly, faced with the prospect of another couple of hours of that, if I'd have been in the theatre I'd have walked out.

So if that was supposed to be a hit, from the little I've seen of BIG, listening to the exquisite cast recording that makes me feel I'm in the story with them, plus the fabulous cast, It's set to smash records.

So glad to read this BB.
I watched Billy Elliot in the theatre recently and thought it was so disappointing. I really didn't enjoy it at all and couldn't wait for it to be over. A lot of my family felt the same but I know so many people who saw it in London and raved about it.
I thought it was shouty, unsubtle, dated and tedious. There were only a couple of scenes and bits of dancing that engaged me. If I had been on my own I would have left at the interval, which I have only ever done once before.

^^^ Sounds as if a complete re-write is necessary. If it's the Elton music he'd go nuts!

The beginning of Les Mis is a pretty grim setting too, but the music and lyrics are sensational and pull you into the story straight away - I got no sense of that with this version of Billy Elliot. All a bit naff really,

I love Elton John, but not this.

The dancing later in the film is sensational. Perhaps a bit of fast forwarding wouldn't come amiss! I enjoyed it.

A musical is more than just dancing for me - like reading a book, if it doesn't draw you in right at the start sufficiently to want to keep turning the pages, it's unlikely it ever will. Glad that you got something out of it though, but what we saw was awful and certainly not worth setting the recorder for.

The original film was in another class altogether, right from the start to that magnificent grande jete at the end. The difference between Jay and Ore!

Hello again thread!

Just popping in before I go back to catch up with reading what I've missed for the past few days, to say I hope everyone had a great Christmas. Hmm, I took my little break before they gave us Christmas smilies, so I think I'll try them now...

Oh, and George Michael.

Yay! He's there safely! 💕

I agree, BB and Jayfan, that everything has to be "right" for a musical to be enjoyable. If even one aspect isn't, then it's a personal failure.

Singing on a tired voice isn't easy but it's possible & can be fun! Especially with a fab crowd & great help from @sing_breathe. So Thanks!

....and worth her weight in gold, no doubt!

Just back from lunch party, listening to a very interesting American guy talking about the State of the Union. Scary stuff, and no wonder Jay's considering coming back here for good!

Go, Jay! You've been wowing them all the way, that lift from an enthusiastic audience can't be bettered, and I can't wait for the opening night in the West End!

The curtain rises
The faces smile
He clears his throat
It's all worthwhile

He sings, he dances
Brings joy and tears
His understanding
Belies his years

The curtain falls
The watchers sigh
Perfection has met
The discerning eye

Oh no, now Carrie Fisher has gone too. This is so sad.

I was so hoping she would recover.

Hi Everyone
Just catching up. Hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas
Thanks for all the picture links. Korky lovely poetry as ever

So sad about the news of George Michaels passing. Think the viewers of The Last Leg were right in voting the year 2016 itself as d**k of the year - so many people lost

OMG as I've been typing just heard that Carrie Fisher has died. RIP Princess Leia

ETA I was hoping so as well StrictlyRed
