Really, you're putting Laurel down there with Holly? Laurel has been great since the alcoholism story and I find her very sympathetic, plus Charlotte Bellamy is an amazing actress. The only characters that are as bad as holly are Doug, Jai and Brenda.

Maybe its just the voice, whenever shes on I just sort of switch off and try and blank out the noise.

Well you are missing out on some great performances. I really thought she was going to win best dramatic performance at the BSAs

I don't like Laurel, mainly for that reason - I find the squeaky voice really annoying.

No, Holly is the worst! Its less about her acting skills, which seem fine enough to me, but just the character, I don't like her at all. So so so tired of her junkie routine and she's only been back a couple months. There aren't many characters on Emmerdale that I don't like, I think almost all of them are fabulous...but Holly is one that I have a short viewing tolerance of.

This is the sort of thing Mormon Girl says when someone disagrees with her.

I remember you said that to me when I said I don't like Laurel because of her voice. The way I look at it, if I don't a character (any character, not just Laurel) then I am not missing out on some great performances. Laurel's performances may be great to you because you like her but they're not great to me because I don't like her.

I said that cuz it might have changed your feelings about Laurel. I couldn't stand her when she was with Marlon, but the alcoholism story made me see her in a new light and it really let Charlotte Bellamy show what she is capable of.

I agree, the alcholism story was birllaintly done and Charlotte Bellamy certainly did the storyline justice. I've nominated it in the "best storyline" catergory at the DS Forum Soap Awards http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...2153135&page=9 If you're interested (or anyone else)

Fair enough. I've never liked her though from the moment she joined ED, dressed as a bee - I wanted her to buzz off again and nothing has changed in all the time she's been in it. As soon as she starts talking I zone out.

The 'actress' who plays Holly is atrocious and why or how she was picked to play any part, never mind a part in a prime time soap, is one of life's eternal mysteries.

I agree. Holly is the weakest link on Emmerdale and is spoiling the show for me right now. The character is so boring.

Holly really isn't played by a great actress, but she's by no means the worst thing on the show right now. I find the story OK, mainly because it gives the awesome Cain and Moira something decent to do. It's also quite nice to see Adam back - I quite like him these days.

I have no idea why they've dragged the addiction story back up out of the grave, maybe she'll die to create more drama, who knows, but it's pretty watchable.

I agree. I think the storyline has actually been decent and it, to me, has been interesting seeing Cain and Moira struggle over Holly. I liked parts of the episode today with the Cain and Laurel scene where he was reflecting on his attitude toward addiction.

Also, I thought Holly was horrible when she first returned, but IMO the actress wasn't bad in the hospital scene with Moira.

It's hard for me to see her as decent when she's in most scenes with two strong actors - Moira and Cain, the same thing is happening like with James.

She's done a good enough job with the emotional scenes but not so good in the day to day scenes. I don't get when the actress tries to tell us Holly is lovely girl but the drugs have took over. I don't see that at all.. She can't blame the drugs on her trying to split up Moira and Cain!

Surely ok isn't good enough, there must be hundreds of young actresses who could do much better, she is a lucky woman to have been invited back when she was so dreadful first time round!

I don't get why this actress is being singled out for her acting. Anyone would think ED is populated by high quality actors rather than what it is which is a soap filled with average soap level actors. Even the so called better ones like Charlotte Belamy will never be more than a soapie standard actress. The show never produces anyonr who goes on to be a star actor. Most who leave only do soap level stuff or get very little work and have to return to the soap. Sammy Winward is just the latest in a very long line of ED actors who leave and struggle to get work.
The actress who plays Holly is no more wooden than the dreadful Ryan Hawley or the appalling gurning Isobelle Hodgins who is one of the lucklest actors working on TV. How such a pointless character played by such a dreadful actor lasted this long is a complete mystery. Then we get to the likes of Nick Miles the crown prince of burning ham actors. Amazingly his atrocious acting has been topped by the new king of ham the truly dire John Bowe.

I don't think Sophie Powles is wooden. I actually think she's been pretty good and quite a funny character with her dying Charity's hair blue which was very satisfying to watch.

Her voice can be a little irritating but her acting is more than adequate on many occassions.

I agree, I think her acting is fine, it's ok. I think she just appears "wooden" because that's how her character is supposed to be, If that makes sense.
